Outrage: Severna Park student bullying classmate with disabilities

Administrators at a high school in Anne Arundel County are investigating a video they say shows a student bullying another student with special needs. Severna Park high school principal Lindsay Abruzzo sent out a letter to parents. She says the video shows a student using racist words and phrases demeaning the student with special needs. The letter states the student was threatened physical harm. https://www.wmar2news.com/news/local-news/severna-park-high-school-investigating-bullying-video

viral video showing a Severna Park High School student bullying a disabled classmate is drawing some outrage online yeah wmar2 news Jeff Morgan spoke with Anne Arundel County School District today about the incident and their response a viral video on Tick Tock shows us Savannah Park High School student bullying a classmate who has special needs the student can be heard saying a racial slur phrases demeaning to a person with special needs don't ever speak back to me and even launching a physical
threat at him parents learned about the incident on Tuesday in a letter from the school then the viral video Drew more than 800 000 views on Tick Tock it is a disturbing disturbing thing to watch and certainly has evoked a visceral reaction on social media yesterday but also at the school on Tuesday the high school is focusing on ways to combat bullying across the country schools are seeing a rise in bullying according to the cyber bullying Research Center you have to continue the conversations
right and as you're moving forward in a journey sometimes there are steps back and and the goal is to keep moving forward and and not let a single incident Define your overall program and certainly this is very disturbing there's no brushing this under the rug there's no not dealing with this the appropriate consequences have been been levied and and that will continue to happen as this process continues once student learned about the video they were outraged the school district says they march
ed down to the principal's office but it is certainly reassuring that that many students went to the office and said hey look this happened you have to know about this it happened very quickly almost immediately and so from that standpoint the message of see something say something and the message of let's do something about something that's just not okay is clearly clearly there the school has identified the student and has taken appropriate action according to Anne Arundel County Schools handb

I bet the parents of those bullies are feeling proud right now!! The whole world knows what kind of kids you’re raising

@bethanyjohnns

Im 34 and back in the 2000's no one would be marching to the principal's office in support of the victim of bullying. They would have done nothing to help. This is a GOOD sign that things have changed for the better.

@nargallegos6858

The school is more worried about who filmed the video and who leaked it rather than dealing with the disgusting child.

I’m a senior at this school, honestly don’t make threats if you’re not ok with being on the receiving end of that same threat. I’ve met with this special ed student on multiple occasions and he’s actually super cool and nice, I’d consider him one of my top tier friends in all honesty. I’m glad the students who made the threat have been disciplined. Poor dude, no one should be told their going to be put in an electric chair :(

@stewiegriffin8535

The bully's name is Brendan Para

@CookieMonster-1994

The only way to fight back is legally, and bringing awareness as well as social responsibility. Speaking from experience I have the mildest case of cerebral palsy, I still got assaulted, and called every name in the book. Knowing that no one would do anything about it. My case doesn’t matter, my point is it happens more often than you think.

it's very sad to see that, behaving like a hero, that shouldn't be done, especially towards your friend who has shortcomings, especially mental disabilities such as special needs and so on, fortunately there is a quick response from cyberbullying, be careful, what you do could cause someone was seriously traumatized, I hope something like this doesn't happen again

@karengeisendaffer5116

I bet nothing happen to the kids and the parents weren't even upset with

@BlitzWing-vk1zw

For any high school bullies out there, beware for karma will later catch up with you in your adult years and you will reap what you sow 🎉 You deserve no sympathy or compassion!

@officialmccannon

I am prepared to go to prison

@ElSings

I go here. It’s just nsanely shameful that this happens. We’re not called suicide high for nothing

@maxlife9721

I can think of some things to do with this kid but the other students should have stood up for him

@fjbz3737

Not surprising, I attended this place for a year and a half in 2016-17 and the entire culture is rotten to its core despite an agreeable outward facade.

@AlienShomoe

Does anyone know what that condition is called?

@jaurybeltraoengers5986

Suspension... and then back to normal, they should be put under some kind community work at least.

@josuer.f.9042

Who’s the bully?

@youtuberant8388

@KedrickBurton316
