You visit a country to travel and by coming on roads, you see that half of the people are
driving a bike worth 50k-60k and some people are
wandering in Land Cruiser that costs around 8 crores. Some people are
barely getting a job and some people are importing
Rapton from America and Urus from UK. And this country is none other
than our neighbour country Pakistan, where the condition of
car industry is so bad, that the price of a Fortuner
has reached 2 crore PKR and still you have to wait
for 9 m
onths for that car, and there are some people
who are not getting job, and it has happened
in last 3-4 years. The price of cars is
more than that of India. We say that we are
100 years behind India. We are 700 years behind them! 700 years... There won't be any bigger
scandal this one in Pakistan's history! They way they have looted, if you count them... In which if we go back to 1950 National Motors of Pakistan
and General Motors of America set up a factory in Pakistan to assemble the trucks and
to fulfill the industrial
needs of Pakistan! This year, Ford Motors and
Ali Automobiles collaborated to assemble the trucks
in Pakistan locally, and by the year 1966 the company set up
its factory in Pakistan to manufacture good car parts. But by the year 1970 Pakistani government nationalized
all these automobile companies, and set up Pakistani
Automobile Corporation to see, whether all these car makers
are working in goodness of our public, and manufacturing
the cars or not. I don't know, thi
s is
Pakistani word or Indian word! I felt like speaking,
so I spoke! But after applying so
many rules and regulation the Pakistani government understood that we
can't grow like this, because their automobile industry
was still same even after 20 years! No foreign brand came to
manufacture their cars there. In 1999, Pakistani government
followed liberalization! Removed its trade barriers, and invited foreign car makers to manufacture their
cars locally in Pakistan! So, three major Japanese
car m
akers, Toyota, Honda and Suzuki started establishing
themselves in Pakistan! Toyota launches its Corolla, Honda launches its Civic, and Suzuki launches
its affordable cars, to support Pakistani people. And there is Afzal
Motors of Pakistan that takes the truck and
assemble locally in Pakistan! If you see, Daewoo
trucks are of Tata Motors, so technically, the
trucks of Tata Motors are being assembled
locally in India, and are being sold there. Tata motors is very cool! In the coming years Pakista
ni automotive
industry was growing well, and by the year 2007 the automotive industry was
contributing 2.8% of the total GDP. The automotive industry of Pakistan
was growing at the rate of 10% p.a. and by the year 2016 Pakistani automotive industry was selling 2.5
lakh cars per year. But the problem was that,
out of 2.5 lakh cars, 2.3 lakh cars were of Japanese brands,
Toyota, Suzuki and Honda. No one was talking
about other car makers. And these Japanese car makers were selling
one generation o
ld cars in Pakistan! They were not manufacturing
the cars locally in Pakistan just by importing
and assembling, and supplying in Pakistan! And were selling at double price as compared to
the foreign market. So, in order to
improve the competition and to bring little
more diversity Pakistan government
launched Pakistan auto policy in which the import
duty was reduced by 50% and if any car maker set
up its factory in Pakistan then there would be 0% import duty
on the machinery they would bring! If
a car maker makes
the car locally in Pakistan and then makes
profit by selling them then there is no issue,
they can make profit, without paying the taxes. And the excise duty was
reduced by 10% on imported cars so that people
get more incentive to buy more cars. And as soon as
Pakistan made this policy then almost 12 different
car makers got interested to launch their
cars in Pakistan! Renault was ready to
invest $230 in Pakistan! Kia was ready to
invest $190 in Pakistan! Hyundai was ready to
invest $163 in Pakistan! And there were such
different car makers who wanted to sell
their cars in Pakistan! But it didn't happen! Because even after 4 years only 2 car makers,
Hyundai and Kia went there. Hyundai launched its base
model of Tuson in Pakistan for 48,00,000 pkr, that is around
24-25 lakhs in India, so that's fine.
It's the same price in India. And Kia launched its
Sportage for 70 lakhs pkr that is around
30-35 lakhs in India it's little expensive,
not an issue. And you must be noti
cing, there
is no reflection on my glasses, like before! Because I have

big Japanese car makers had more than 90% share in
the automotive industry of Pakistan people were buying
their car more. But then the difference
starts coming. In which China and Pakistan inaugurate
the China Pakistan economy corridor, in which China will invest
around $50 billion in Pakistan and will loot Pakistan and will sell bad
products in Pakistan! At that time,
Pakistan was feeling, 'Wow, China is very good, they
are investing so much money in us'. They didn't know that
they wanted to loot them! And when China introduced
this economy corridor, 10 bad car makers of China said that we will sell
our cars in China. And if you see in India, competitive Chinese
car makers come in India. For example BYD, MG, Haval that gets good sales in China. The car makers that
were going to Pakistan were the ones who were not
getting sales in China itself. For example, Junpei, Joylong Lifa, BIC, Changan no one buys their cars in China. They wanted to sell
their cars in China. And
only 2 of them
were able to enter! In which, first of all Changan
launched its Alsvin in Pakistan because there was a huge price
difference in a sedan and hatchback! So, Alsvin was made to
reduce that price difference and to give Pakistanis
the fun of a sedan! And if you don't know, before this, the cheapest
sedan in Pakistan was Honda City! That used to cost around
30 lakh pkr at that time, which is around
12-13 lakhs in India. There is no such small
sedans in Pakistan like there are in India s
uch
as Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor! There is no such
cars in Pakistan! We Indians are very lucky that we have such
a good diversity that every person can buy a car! After that BIC launched its BJ40 for around 40 lakhs pkr which was an
offroading oriented SUV. And while doing this,
in the year FY2021 the automobile industry
of Pakistan grew by 100% as compared to the last year. And people were
enjoying the cars. And in one single day around 25k cars were sold, which is the highest till date! But the
problems start
coming in year 2022 in which the price of
crude oil increase a lot, and the countries
that had a lot of debt started facing more problems their forex reserves
started depleting. And Pakistan was
the biggest victim! Their currency value
decreased by 40% in 6 months. The thing that was worth
1 rupees during import was costing 2 rupees there. BIC BJ40 that was launched at a
price point of 40 lakh pkr one year ago now its price was
80 lakhs pkr there. Literally, people got very upset.
and in order to save
their forex reserves Pakistan government increased
the import duty from 10% to 100%. So that people import less cars and their forex reserve deplete less. And by doing this, the
price of cars got tripled. Land Cruiser was
costing 15 crores pkr, literally 15 crore pkr, it costs around 5 crores,
if you see in Indian rupees, it's very expensive. But still if you see, this is not the main
thing of Pakistani automotive industry because the cars
are very expensive! Let me give yo
u a
good proof of this! The price of top end model of
Fortuner in Pakistan is 2 crore pkr, this is GR sport version! If you change it
to Indian rupees, it's around 60 lakhs
in Indian currency! So, this is the same
price as it's in India! GR Sport version costs
around 60 lakhs in India! The price of Toyota
Hylux is around 97 pkr that is almost 28 lakhs pkr! If you see, the price of
used cars is same like India. But the Pakistanis face problem
because of three main reasons, and they are very big p
roblems. In India, you have to book
a car, for example Scorpio then generally the booking
amount if 1% of the car value, if the car costs 25 lakhs, then the booking
amount will be 25k rupees, it's 50k or 1 lakhs
rupees sometimes. It doesn't go beyond that. No matter, how
expensive the car is. It never happens that that suppose the car
costs 25 lakh rupees, and you are giving 20
lakhs as booking amount, and then you are waiting
for 5-6 months for that car. Literally, this
happens in Pakistan! In
Pakistan, either you have
to pay the car price in front or you have to pay
more than half of the price to book your car. And the more you pay the faster you will get the car. If you pay the full amount, you
can get the car in around 2 months. If you give half of the price then you will get
the car in 6-9 months! And the more you pay the
faster you will get the car. And if you want the car instantly then you have to pay
10% more of the car value! It happens because the system of car companies
in
Pakistan is very bad! In India, if you book a car the car company manufactures the car, then it is delivered
to the dealership you check the car, and then you make the
rest payment and buy the car. In Pakistan, the car companies
take the full amount from customers, of the car then they manufacture
that car in Japan manufacture the parts then they import
those parts in Pakistan after importing, they
assemble the car in Pakistan and give it to the customer. Due to this, the car
companies face no l
oss. They got the whole
money in front of that car. By using that money,
they can earn interest can do anything. After 5-6 months, they
manufacture it in Japan manufacture locally in Pakistan
and give to the customers. Due to this, the car
companies got so much profit! Neither it's risky that the
customer will cancel the car. Cancel the car,
we will keep the car. They manufacture their cars in Japan! They don't have any risk of factory! And Pakistani people are suffering due to this. But the big
ger thing is, if you buy a car in India you will get it on finance. The finance rate in
India is around 8% that is very reasonable rate. But in Pakistan, you will
have to pay 17% finance rate or 18% interest rate on your car, that is extremely high! And what the messed
up thing here is, that because you have
to give the money infront, then you will pay the
interest on 18% interest, you are not paying that for car. Because you haven't
got the car yet! Car is yet to come. For now, you have
just bo
oked the car! So you will pay the EMIs
for 8-9 months for no reason! The car will come after 8-9 months. How bad this thing is. And it gets become expensive
for Pakistani people! And they feel very
hard to buy the car. And if you see,
there is not so big difference in the price
of India and Pakistan but because you have to
pay so much money infront, and have to wait for so long, so the rich people
buy their cars quickly they import whatever
car they want to buy without any problem! But a middle-
class person
faces many problems. Because obviously, he won't have
50 lakh or 1 crore pkr to buy a car! If he buys the car on finance,
he will pay EMIs for 8-9 months without getting the car! And this is an unsolvable situation because whenever the Pakistan
government has tried to make some changes in the automotive industry like, they introduced
the automotive policy so that the foreign car makers
come and set up their factory locally! So initially, everyone said that they
have plans of setting
factory in Pakistan but then they saw that Toyota and Hyundai are
making so much profits in Pakistan on such a low risk then why shall we
set up the factory! Why to expand? We will use the same strategy! Will loot Pakistanis! And the government
of Pakistan is fake! I would advice them to
sell Indian cars in Pakistan you will get the
highest value for money that no other car maker
will be able to provide. But your brain is going to

Indian Govt did the right decision to make Auto companies to make their cars in India rather than importing from outside. There are some ‘rich kids’ complaining about the lack of top end models in India due to the taxation of GoI, but that taxation is the reason why Indian middle class can afford cars.
