all right so I'm here with ____, he's a captain in  the Spanish military and today we're going to try the special ops uh yeah test the test  to access the course for special ops okay right so if you get pasted they train  you to be a special ops right and I've tried a lot of hard military tests  but I suspect this to be among the hardest well the first exercise we're going  to be performing is situps situps yeah we're going to test your core strength normal  setups any special setups uh I'm goin
g to perform a setup for you so that you can see  what you can do at and what you can't do okay okay because I've heard that you're pretty  strict when it comes to form yeah here in the Spanish army people are really strict  with the form and uh maybe we don't do a perfect form but we have a minimum requirement  and if that's not me we're not going to count the repetition okay okay it's going to be like  zero zero zero yeah we're going to be stuck at certain amount if you don't perform correctly
  but show me the form then so I don't mess up you have to get your thumb to your clavicle  yeah close your hand and the other hand the same way you get up and touch your knees this  is one situp that's one situp okay two yeah and when you go down you can do the situp up  to this point you don't really have to touch with the upper part of your bar but you need to  have 2/3 of your back touching the the mat oh wow or it won count right and then you come  back up again cool and you cannot rest the
moment you do this yeah it's resting and you're  gone but is it until exhaustion or do we have a time limit or what is uh you have 2 minutes  2 minutes but it usually you get exhausted before reaching the 2 minutes Mark a [ __ ]  I haven't done situps in a while I can give you what's the maximum score yeah that's 115  all right well I'm always uh getting nervous before these things it's uh it's because you know  you're going to get super tired all right three 2 1 here we go one 2 3 4 5 6 7 28 2
9 30 49 5050  51 52 81 82 83 84 come on M 85 94 95 96 oh guys 97 98 9 99 100 I'm going to stop there  good good good that was excellent Magnus that was a very good score actually  so that was uh 100 right yeah then you're 7.5 out of 10 that's good yeah  it's a decent score that's a decent score for the push-ups you want to have your  legs uh close you canot open your legs yeah and your hands must meet your nipples with the  with the thumb okay thumb and nipples so you lay down yeah use your chin
in the mat okay  and your thumbs must go under your nipples once you have this position you get up this wow  this is not one okay and now whenever you want you say go and you start okay you cannot do  like this for example this is not right yeah or for example opening the arms like this is not  right yeah you cannot switch the arms you cannot do like this mhm this is not permitted the the  moment one hand leaves you're done yeah and you cannot comb of course of course yeah and you  cannot push

s this is a really hard test yeah it's like uh it's  like it too it's very hard I actually struggle a lot myself with the push yeah oh Jesus  Christ you guys have some hardcore special [Music] offs I think I know what the next one  is am I allowed to perform this one without a shirt you are you are okay cuz I think that  might help me a little bit you you need your your full power I need my full power cuz I'm a  little bit cuz I'm a little bit uh disappointed with the with a push-up so now I nee
d every  everything I can get you can get your grip as wide or as close as you want yeah but once  you get it you can change it okay and you cannot release the hold you also have to be in  a line and see clearly above the bar okay when you go down you go down fully you can't get like  here of course and this kind of thing it's not allowed not allow the push-ups kind of killed  me actually cuz it's so weird it's I feel like it's a little bit of the same muscles you use  even though it's not the s
ame it's like I feel tired you've been performing that that's the  thing with going back to back you know and you also said earlier that if you have a bigger group  of people you get get more rest so it's usually easier yes but then also the score is based uh  from all the from the whole group right so you just take the average kind of yeah and right now  you're performing above the average so you're in well I got a two on the last one though yeah  but the two is remember it's what usually is a
five right okay so it's not that bad it sounds  horrible but it's not that bad okay right what is the maximum here 31 31 oh my goodness it's  a lot I mean 31 pull-ups I can probably do but with that form I there's no chance I can do  it whenever you feel ready I'm going to start counting and here you have no time limits no time  limit and I can rest just don't let go of the bar yeah that's it okay all right okay here we go  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 isise yourself
Magnus you have 23 24 25 26 more 27 28 come on you have one more you [Applause] um 31 13 and a half because  you okay you did very well thank you that's a 9. five 9.5 yeah 9.5 out of 10 it's a great  score yeah it definitely helped me to be able to rest on the bottom that's uh and when I jumped  up I was like oh my God my my hands are a little bit too narrow but I could adjust that to I  saw I couldn't adjust it because I'm allowed to all right 100 m so what's the maximum  score well the maximum
score is actually pretty tough tough to reach it's 10.2 seconds  10.2 seconds in 100 m and on on like concrete SL gravel yeah yeah yeah it's very that's almost  like a professional Runner time yeah but uh the minimum it's like 13 seconds that's still pretty  fast yeah yeah it's still pretty fast yeah well the minimum to get past M like there are also  superar uh scores but we're not aiming for those okay yeah when I turn on the timer I'm going  I'm going to simultaneously lower my hand and then
you go okay so as soon as I see you start  lowering your hand then I can go yeah you can go so what was the time 12:45 12:45 I'm pretty  happy with that honestly uh I'm actually I'd actually be happy with with that but uh the fact  is that the register I have is very strict your score would be uh 3.75 but I'm still happy with  that though because that's like for the special ops and everything uh so you're definitely  in and you even have a 3.5 when the two is the minimum to get in yeah so still
past yeah  still past the next one is a mace right like a like a tunnel mace yeah it's like a silver  simulation okay and it's like Labyrinth yeah and you have to get out of it but this one has  no scores it's just pass or no pass okay right okay so this one is kind of scary right that's  the yeah you have like to overcome the anxiety and the fear that you might experience like  going claustrophobia yeah claustrophobia or even if you're sensitive to disgust because do  touch something iy or som
ething like that you have to overcome all that and you have to run  through the maze yeah and if you find a dead end you have to keep your cool so that's part of  the of the test okay so I might get lost in the Maze that sounds sounds kind of scary as long as  you promise there's no snakes down there I can't promise that cuz I've heard of people getting  bit by snakes in those things yeah actually we sometimes have wild BS in ours oh no if you  hear some snorting run the opposite direction oh [M
usic] [ __ ] this is supposed to test that  if you are able to be cool and to keep you cool Under Pressure oh is someone in there  maybe a wild boar we will never know until you get inside hello and I have no idea  how long it is and how long it's going to take I'm just going to it's supposed to be  like that it's just like an enclosed space you you're not going to be comfortable you  cannot get up you cannot run yeah you feel the pressure of being underground right  and under those circumstance
s you have to to solve the maze yeah it's a good thing  that I don't have claustrophobia 3 2 1 go which way do I go [Applause] oh there's silver spider web here oh Jesus Christ that's dark go back can't see anything what  is this this must be a dead end all right here oh that was uh there was so much spiderweb  and stuff in there yeah there there was it was uh pretty uh I don't know I feel like it was a  bit a bit of luck that uh got me through it in less than one minute because I could have gon
e  the completely wrong way cuz you saw bits of lights everywhere yeah and then you're like is  that where I should go and then I was like no they're probably trying to trick you so you should  probably follow the darkness instead that was my well you were right because actually the fastest  way to go is exactly the darkest tunnel in there that you you like peek in and you're like oh  this is super dark okay and that's that's what you have to go do you have to go through that  tunnel I hope I ho
pe I pass that one at least yeah sure now it's only the the 3,000 M yeah  this is the one that I'm dreading cuz it's with extra weight right yeah it's with 20 kilos 20  kills I think it's going to be pretty tough and I think that the the most important job here  is to keep uh your pace yeah it's like uh you have to hold uh your strength and you have to  lay back a little bit and not do an Sprint at the beginning because if you do that I don't know  if you're going if you're going to finish the t
he test yeah the most important thing is to pace  yourself right I'm terrible at pacing myself but I think I've gotten a little bit better  over the years of trying these tests hopefully yeah so this is the last exercise right  yeah that's right but it's going to be the toughest too because it's going to be  running 3 km 20 kilos on you and you're going to be facing very tough uphills I feel  like 20 kilos is so much more than you think like yes doesn't sound so bad but 20 kilos  is a lot it's a
lot especially after a while because at first it's like yeah I can cover  this but in the long run you start feeling the weight a lot and this is uphill it's  gravel yep but it's the last thing we're doing today so that makes it a little bit  easier I think King of the Hill oh damn this is heavy yeah are you comfortable I'm pretty  comfortable let me rest my legs for two seconds so okay I'm ready 3 2 1 go got to remember to Pace myself this is where I have  to start walking a little bit they to
ld me it's not smart to  run the whole way so my tactic is to only run when it's flat or downhill  when it's steep I'm just going to walk fast trying to use my arms as much as possible  trying to run up here I think it would be stupid so I'm just running where it's flat or downhill  or slightly steep but this is too steep to run [Music] it's so hot Jesus Christ is hot even  though the Sun is going down it's also kind of annoying that this weight West  is a little bit too big so I have to hold bo
th hands in the weight West afraid not to  jump too much been running for 11 minutes 43 seconds time is pretty good though where is the penny CL though oh Jes you're  done there's no [ __ ] way fast now are you okay I almost cuz I was oh [ __ ] you're to get T that's  okay okay my yeah you performed really well in this test I'm actually surprised I'm surprised  too I I just Happ feel that I have the GoPro to prove it yeah really I was like on the way there  I was cuz I was w i was hiking up the
first two steep hills cuz you said those would be really  hard yeah I was like I'm just going to hike and then when I passed the hill and was running down  I could go so fast you have I I 10 wow thanks yeah that's crazy the more I do these tests I feel  like endurance is what I should do cuz I always perform better on like 5,000 3,000 so that maybe  that's what I should have done with my life not the stupid climbing that I've been doing over  well climbing got you here yeah that's [Music] true s
o you performed outstanding you had 50  15 minutes and 40 seconds yeah and that's a 10 out of 10 that was surprising it's a  very good Mark I was surprised when I saw you coming because I thought there's no way  it's him but it was you actually so to sum up uh you did uh very well in the endurance  test in the mountain MH you did very well in the pull-ups mhm and you had some weaknesses  in the push-ups yeah and some weaknesses in the 100 meter Sprints I think the push-ups is  incredibly hard th
ough like 49 narrow push-ups like that I'm pretty happy with to be honest  well I I don't think they were so narrow it's just like our standard standard but overall  you performed very well you had a 6.5 out of 10 and it may it might not sound as much but  remember that you are competing with the best score of the best performer in every test mhm  my plan here was to award you a military rank depending on your performance yeah and the 6.5  it's about colonal okay because you could do better you
could be a general yeah but uh  for now oh wow uh I think you deserve this because you performed really well thanks man  so please you people and at your service sir yeah thank you this is really cool but now I'm  your inferior you can boss me around okay that's awesome

I was in the Spanish Army for three years. The maximum amount of pullups I ever did was 20 (with good form). I never ran under 13 seconds. I saw a girl scream with a panic attack in the tunnel (though we did it with more people, going in both directions). This guy's form is absolutely outstanding. You have to have tried this kind of thing to understand how good of a form he has.

I had the pleasure of working with the Spanish Army at Qala E Naw, Baghdis Province, Afghanistan in 2013 right before they left, including 9 of their special operations guys. It was one of the best experiences in my career. And I got my certificate in cutting Iberian Ham!

The Spanish Special Forces don't mess around with the entry fitness test. Top notch content as well and the instructor seems like a super nice guy but wouldn't want to get on his bad side as well haha

To maximize pushups for endurance, push to failure then drop to your knees and continue to failure. This will increase your ability for max pushups. I never seemed to be able to get the maximum Army test score because of the pushups, even after basic training, till someone advised me to train this way. The next test I maxed the pushup portion.

The maze part is by far the most difficult part, there's been people who actually needed to be rescued, also people staying for hours before surrender or pass. Also that was the short version and you did it during daytime and it is done during noght, sometimes stormy nights. And you absolutely did amazing man!!

Being spaniard myself Im glad that you came here to experience the test for the army, it's always said that it is a super hard test but seing you struggle just put into perspective the training some colleagues of mine have to go through. PS. dont say somewhere in spain when you show some of the most recognizables buildings in spain xDD
