Playing Modern Yu-Gi-Oh! in a Nutshell

I haven't played Yu Gi Oh in like 100 years. I tried learning all the new mechanics and other things. This is exactly my reaction to em. Thank god Konami invented Rush Duel. Hey, wanna play some yu-gi-oh? Sorry, I haven't played it for a long time I'm not sure about the new mechanics and everything. Nah, it's okay. Just a casual game. I will teach you as we play along. Oh, okay, then I summon a monster in attack position and I end my turn! So... YOU HAVE CHOSEN DEATH I tune 2 monsters to synchro summon a monster Tune...? Synchro...? Yeah, it's called synchro summon. I use a non-tuner and a tuner monster to summon a monster. Easy to understand, right? um Okay Then I
stack two of my monsters on top of each other to summon a monster! Wait a minute. You can stack your monsters now? That's right! It's called XYZ summon! Ex... What? And I can detach one of the XYZ material whenever I want to activate the card effect! De... De... Detach? but wait, there's more! I will now initiate a Pendulum Summon! Pe...Pe... Pendulum??? I will now place two monsters in my pendulum zone and I can summon five monsters at once! What the fu- How the f does that even work? it doesn
't make sense! Why does the card have two text boxes and what the hell is that wall of text? How does a simple thing such as summoning goes from... THIS! to this shit right here! I am not done yet! Let me introduce you to link summon! Here's how it works, first, I will take this gas can. Then I pour it all over the field and then I set everything on fire!

@Cimoooooooo

The real "How to Play Yu-Gi-Oh! in 3 Minutes" 10/10. 😂😂😂😂😂

@asmrlistener6606

Yugioh then: "I end my turn" Yugioh now: "I end YOUR TURN"

@emperorpicard7222

Inaccurate. His opening move took less than half his deck to complete.

@feliperibeiro463

Modern Yugioh be like: You take a nap while your oponent does a 25 minute play to end your game in the first turn.

@Jhy1td

“I can summon 5 monsters due to this one effect” “WHAT THE FUCK!?” I agree man. 10 fold

@Infovorousness

And people laughed when they built a school to teach Yugioh mechanics

@lVicel

Modern Yugioh be like: "I'll go first, you lose"

@jodofe4879

I miss the days when special summons were actually special.

@NidotheKing

The problem with teaching new people the game is that diehard players had years to learn the summoning mechanics before the next one released. Now someone has to try and understand all of them AT ONCE.

@jvnascpeix

"Dude, how the hell you're summoning all those monsters in MY main phase?!" "You mean OUR main phase"

@sawyerthomson7497

"Did you just summon a bunch of monsters in one turn?" "Yeah, so?" "That's against the rules, isn't it?" "Not for years now."

@kiracaos

Man, this hits hard. I tried going to a local store, mind u, first time on this type of store. Also, new to the country, just trying to find people to hang out with. I show up to check out what is new in Yugioh (last I played, GX had come out, so Heroes were the last thing I remember) Anyways,I discovered there were Ninja and Ninjutsu cards, cool, I like ninjas. I buy the cards, come back next week with my new Ninja Deck. I ask for a match, some of the dudes there ask me what deck I got, I say ninjas. The dudes give me this mocking view and scoff at me. One of them says "ok, i'll play you. Hey everyone, what deck is less destructive to ninjas ". Somebody said so name, can't remember, something about all cards being rituals, but being summoned from everywhere (deck, hand, etc) Anyways, dude destroyed me completely, 1 turn he summons like 4 monsters, rituals mind u, that need no ritual card. Furthermore, no explanation on what is going on, dude just straight up tells me that this monster on the field has next to 0 counters, and anything I put on the field gets countered by cards on his hand. So, after getting trashed 2 times, dude just turns his back on me, leaves and goes back with the rest of the group. And I was left there, like an idiot, no explanation on what happened, no attempt to teach or gives any tips or anything. It was basically, get lost and stop wasting our time. Even the store owner was laughing with the guys about what happened. I know it's just a children's game, but that right there killed any hope of getting back into the game. It was a horrible experience, not only regarding the game, but a horrible social interaction, when I was trying to get to know new people.

@AlphaNanite

RIP Kazuki Takahashi, creator of the beloved game and manga Yu-Gi-Oh. You will be forever missed and never forgotten.

@captainzoltan7737

back in gx everyone laughed at the idea of Kaiba making a school to teach kids how to play the game. now it doesn't seem so silly he was clearly ahead of his time.

@PauloJrchannel

Where is the part where he banishes half of his deck, all of his extra deck, 99% of his life points, and sells all of his organs in the black market, just so he can draw two cards.

@Flowyerg

I can emphazise with the girl a 100%. Every time i try to learn modern day YuGiOh I end up crying and then play some Magic the Gathering.

@drm726

“Some things happen, then either it’s my turn or I already lost”. Me describing modern Yu Gi Oh to a friend

@Nusa9376

"Screw the rules Yugi, i got money" -Seto Kaiba 2019

@tjwarden6253

Old yugioh: “I summon a card and end my turn” Modern yugioh: “I summon a bunch of bullshit back to back and end YOUR turn”

@EX7Sonic

I'm an old school player that recently came back. A lot of people like to make fun of this aspect of the game but I think the bigger issue is how cards and decks are designed so that your turn takes way longer and OTKs are basically what you're aiming and is entirely possible. The best duels I've had on Master Duels were the ones where I and the other player were going back and forth, finding new ways to overcome the other player's cards and keeping it pretty even with our life points. Now I just save myself some time by surrendering whenever the other player takes longer than 100 seconds to do their turn.
