ah shorts. These little things that came into our daily lives. whether it be on YouTube TikTok, Instagram or Facebook. the interest these past 5 years has just exploded when you look at the trends. now having done shorts myself on YouTube here are 10 simple tips to make your editing workflow easier and better on CapCut. but before we get into them, I wanna say this: you will find lots of tutorials on YouTube promising you a perfect recipe to make viral videos. many great creator and tips out the
re, but along time, it kind of got mixed up with other content that looks at shorts like merchandise. so I'm not gonna make that promise. we can't get into editing shorts without looking first at what type of content you are creating. becasue you're not going to edit a vlog like a podcast or infotainment like in the same way as a historical content and the reason I'm giving this example is: I came across this channel that has millions of views on old footage, with zero editing, besides putting a
title. and that's because the real value resides in the content itself. that being said editing does play a big role in certain types of content where the audience attention span is very low. the shorts viewer will take the first opportunity to scroll away from your video. the structure of your video should not give any reason to scroll away like low pace moments. and that takes me to my first tip: use the proper structure of course you need a good hook, that's what everyone will tell you. but
most importantly, your video should be as packed and short as possible I know people say that longer videos have a better chance to get suggested by YouTube, and while that is true, from experience, having people swipe away in the second half of the video is way worse than during the hook. so make sure you have no unnecessary stuff like \ please subscribe, or anything that's not adding value. second tip: use fast cuts and that applies to all media and scenes. for images or footage just make sure
you don't have any shots for longer than 3 seconds. for audio go and cut all silences and make your audio segments overlap. that will make a fast pace. very important for shorts. and for faster cutting, use the keyboard shortcuts (control+B) next tip use the proper backgrounds when creating shorts you might encounter a problem with the size of your footage. when you try to put a 16:9 into a 9:16, it gives \ and that doesn't look good, so here you have these options: either look for your footage
directly in 9:16 resolution. if you can't find it, you can use a soft motion graphic background that you can download for free from Freepik, Pixabay or Pexels. another option: you can create your own motion background by stacking effects on a static background, and if you don't want to do that, you can use a background from capcut. to do that put your media in the base layer, and select one of the canvas modes. this way you can hide that ugly black hole in your video. next up subtitles nowadays
lots of shorts are viewed with sound off, so putting subtitles in shorts became a MUST. and here you have 2 options, if your audience speaks the same language, the best would be to have static subtitles in your video. generate them with CapCut, and control them, as capcut often makes mistakes. and what you want to do is have very short subtitles this will increase the viewers attention. go for 2 or 3 words maximum. to do that go to the right panel, and split them by pressing ENTER. also assign
a special style to your subtitles. choose an original font, color, background, strokes, glow, ... it's also better to add an animation to the text reveal. you have plenty to choose from. and place them all at a visible position, away from the overlay icons and video information. if your audience is international, then it's best to leave the default subtitles. as for editing in itself there's actually no difference with regular videos you need to have in your toolbox all of the following VFX moti
on graphics stock footage sound effects transitions and so on for that I refer you to my previous tutorials on editing tips the most important thing you need to know and here I'll be talking about YouTube is that you need to have a consistent upload schedule in shorts most recommendations talk about one upload every 1 or 2 days max if you don't follow this upload schedule your channel will be forgotten by the YouTube feed algorithm and here is the proof I actually did the test by pausing uploads
as you can see the views immediately stopped but as soon as I reuploaded a series of videos the algorithm started pushing them into the feed I paused uploads again just to make sure and the feed stopped as well the reason I'm sharing this is that editing should not get along the way in shorts if it's not gonna let you upload everyday and lastly I want to announce that I've been lately learning a very powerful animation tool it allows you to animate characters in the most realistic ways they can
walk talk and it even allows you to animate them with a webcam I'm still learning and I'm intending to build an animation community to all learn from each other for those of you who want to start looking at it it's Adobe Character. I'll be posting my findings. let me know in the comment section if you're interested in getting deeper into it
