Aizawa Azusa has spent much of her
life as a dedicated office worker. She lived out her days setting aside love, fun,
and any other young and wild and free hijinks. One day, she passed out in the middle
of work and never woke up again. The next thing she knows, Azusa’s a glowing
orb in heaven. Since she worked herself to death in her twenties, the goddess feels
sorry for her and grants her a new life where she can live happily from beginning to end.
She’ll be free to do nearly anything she
pleases! Now why is the goddess doing this? Well, she
admits that she has a soft spot for women. Kind of like Zeus, you know. Except that
the soft spot isn’t very soft at all. Well, maybe not like Zeus. With the goddess allowing her to make a wish, Azusa quickly asks that she become
immortal and ageless in her next life. And so - Puririn harurun powapowarin! Azusa is transported into a nice, relaxing
highland. She finds an empty house with a sign on the door that says, "Free to anyone who w
ants
it." As she enters the house, she sees herself in a mirror and is amazed at how young and cute she
looks. The goddess wasn't joking when she said she'll give her a 17-year-old's body. She's even
wearing a pretty witch outfit! Azusa gets excited at the thought of being truly reborn. Goodbye,
corpo-slave Aizawa Azusa, and hello… Azusa Aizawa. Creative! Now she’s on her way
to living a truly opposite life. Azusa looks out the window and
sees a village not too far away. She notices that h
er witch
outfit also comes with a weapon and that she has some money in her pocket, too.
With that, Azusa decides to go out and explore. On her way to the village, a slime
suddenly emerges from the bushes. This takes her by surprise, and she fully realizes
that she’s actually in another world! She pulls out her weapon and fights with the slime.
It attacks her belly, but… It didn’t hurt? Weird. Azusa returns the favor and strikes the
slime again, which results in its death. After getting ki
lled, poor slimey turns into a
crystal. Azusa isn’t sure of what it is, but she still takes the stone
in case it’s some kind of money. As much as she’d like to be fully self-sufficient
and freed from the shackles of capitalism, she still needs money for her day-to-day necessities.
She also defeats two more slimes along the way. When Azusa arrives at the village’s entrance,
she learns that it’s called ‘Flatta’ and that she should go to the adventurer’s guild. There,
she’s welcomed by a chee
rful lady who explains that the village’s peacefulness sets it apart
from others. The only monsters they have there are slimes. The stones Azusa caught are called ‘magic
stones’, and they can be exchanged for money if she registers with their guild. When Azusa
agrees, the lady displays her information through a holographic screen from a stone. Azusa’s
amazed to discover that she’s a level 1 witch, but what surprises the lady is that Azusa
has the unique ability of immortality. She says that
some witches live very long lives,
but immortality at level 1 is just remarkable. This makes Azusa get all shy, and the lady happily
welcomes her to their guild before paying her for the magic stones. And that is how Azusa got
her source of income in her new slow life. Her days go by easily. Enjoying her
meals, sleeping as much as she wants, and tending to her field. When she feels like
getting some exercise, she beats up slimes. Since they're valuable for her source of
income, Azusa trie
s to defeat at least 25 a day. Sometimes, she also visits the nearby forests.
As a witch, she immediately knows which plants have medicinal uses. She occasionally makes
them into medicine to sell in the village. With minimal labor and an
easy-going day-to-day life, Azusa is living the leisure life
that she wants. It ain’t much, but it’s honest work. And the goddess was right
– she is, indeed, having a great second a life! And then, 300 years passed. Azusa can kill slimes with just a snap
o
f her fingers. She’s a total pro slimer. At this point, the village folks know her as the
‘witch of the highlands’, who’s loved by many. She reminisces about the times she was called
upon during emergencies. She’d treat patients with the medicine she created, and she even
stopped a freakin’ plague at one point. So now, the village people treat her like a
guardian deity – not that it bothers her at all. She goes into the guild's office to exchange some
magic stones. And naturally, after 300
years, the lady at the counter is now different. Kinda
sad if you think about it. Before she leaves, the curious lady, Natalie, asks if she can
check her stats to see how strong the witch is. Hmm, how strong is she in a battle?
Azusa doesn't know either because even if she is registered as an adventurer,
she hasn't really gone on one so far. Natalie puts the block of stat-checking stone in
front of her. Come to think of it, Azusa hasn't checked her stats in 300 years. She has been
protecti
ng the village of Flatta all this time, so Natalie bets that her
stats are through the roof. Being that modest woman that she is, Azusa
downplays this and says she's just a witch with knowledge of medicinal plants, so
Natalie shouldn't get her hopes up. But there's no harm in checking anyway,
so she puts her hand on the stone. Both Azusa and Natalie stand still,
dumbfounded by what they see. Level 99. Azusa is now a Level 99 witch with many
magic skills and special abilities. Natalie screa
ms. She was correct; Azusa is
seriously way too strong! But of course, the witch denies it, saying
the thing must be broken. She hasn't done anything special
but kill slimes all these years. To this, Natalie explains that Azusa has been
defeating an average of 25 slimes daily, in 365 days a year, for 300 years. The lady points at the
screen, showing Azusa her special ability, which boosts her EXP. She gets two additional experience
points for every monster she defeats. And guess what? Slim
es are worth two EXP, so each one is
worth 4. Too much math? Yeah, let's move on. So in short, those 10 million points shouldn’t
come as a surprise! If she were to defeat a dragon worth 2500 points, it would have taken Azusa up
to 4380 dragons to rack up the 10 mill. But that’s way too much work – her slow and steady daily
fights with the slimes got her up there instead. Azusa gets excited, saying she must
be like a super dragon killer then. But her excitement disappears when
Natalie decla
res that she must be the strongest adventurer in the world now.
This makes Azusa sit on the ground, worried. If people find out about this, she might get
too famous, and her slow life will be over! Azusa begs Natalie not to tell a single soul about
it. The lady is confused. She wants everyone to give the witch the glory she deserves, but Azusa
argues that her stats are personal information. To prove her point, she uses an analogy,
saying that Natalie wouldn’t want people to know her chest s
ize. Er… I guess?
Like how you wouldn’t download a car? Besides, Natalie retorts that
she's confident about her size, so… Eventually though, Natalie yields and
promises not to say a word about her stats. Azusa goes to the forest and contemplates what she
just found out. She can't be at level 99 just by killing slimes, right? Curious, she directs her
hands and tries to freeze the waterfall nearby. And… it does get frozen. Well,
there's her confirmation. That night, while cooking dinner, she
freezes some
of her food and stores them to eat the next day. Azusa didn't even realize she
had learned that kind of magic, but now she's happy because it's coming in handy. In the morning, she thaws the food with
fire – which is also an ability of hers. While eating, someone suddenly knocks on her door. In front of her house were four adventurers
wanting to test their skills against her. She clarifies that she is only a witch who ekes
out a living by gathering medicinal plants. So what's
the point of fighting her? To her surprise, one of the adventurers says
he was told a level 99 witch lives there. Azusa tries to make an excuse, saying
that the panel was broken and that her actual strength is only around level
10 at best – or maybe even level 3. However, the adventurers don't believe her. The
woman says there's no use in lying because the mana’s practically gushing from her body. In
other words, she’s got that isekai-MC-energy. And so, the Witch of the Highlands
ends up a
greeing to spar with them on one condition: if she wins,
the adventurers need to tell everyone that she was no big deal. She’d
really rather not fight if she can avoid it. After drawing a huge circle on the ground,
she tells the adventurers they'll lose when all four of them are out of it. The woman starts
the fight, commanding the wind to form a tornado. Amused, Azusa imitates her words while
thinking of keeping them very weak. She mustn't defeat them to prove
that she's just an average w
itch. Azusa unexpectedly commands a huge
tornado, blowing all the adventurers out at once. The tornado was so big that
even people from the village could see it. So much for keeping a low profile. The witch immediately visits Natalie, who swears
that she never told anyone about her stats. Suddenly, a man behind Azusa says he's the one who
spread the news. Natalie recognizes him as Ernst, the adventurer known for being loose-lipped. He
happened to be eavesdropping when they were stat checkin
g. The loudmouthed Ernst exclaims
that he can’t believe she’s at level 99, and everyone at the guild hears
this, too. They yell out excitedly, saying the rumor is true and that they saw Azusa's
incredible magic powers with their own eyes. And that, folks, is how the
witch of the highlands killed slimes for 300 years and maxed out her level. One day while having lunch,
Azusa hears loud stomps outside. She goes to open her door and finds
a gigantic red dragon. The dragon introduces herself a
s Laika and claims she
is their province's most powerful dragon. She tells Azusa that she heard rumors
about the strongest witch that lives there. Knowing where this is going, Azusa gets frustrated
by how much this stupid rumor is spreading. Can’t they at least keep the rumors to humans
only? Regardless, she walks up to Laika, who’s several times bigger than her
house. She says that she doesn’t have any desire to be called the strongest, so
the dragon can have that title. Of course, Laika’
s pride won’t just have that. She
continues challenging Azusa to a fight so they can settle this, and if the
witch keeps refusing, she’s going to go on a rampage. Poor Azusa ends up agreeing since
she doesn’t want her house to be destroyed. To kick things off, Azusa uses her powers to
get off the ground. ‘Ah yes, the true skills of a witch,’ Laika thinks. But just because
she can fly doesn’t mean she’s her equal. Laika then attacks first, blowing a strong fire
from her mouth, which Azusa c
ounters with her freezing power. The dragon gets annoyed, so
she swings her arm at the witch but misses. Infuriated, she prepares to blow another fireball,
but Azusa flies near her mouth and freezes it. This has Laika falling to the
ground, and with her mouth frozen, the dragon’s thrown into a panic.
She starts walking aimlessly, her eyes closed, and Azusa quickly
warns her to watch out for her house. But Laika just goes straight for it, and she ends
up wrecking the concrete structure to t
he ground. With a wrathful god’s anger coursing through
her, Azusa punches the daylight out of Laika, sending the creature on her back. This leaves
her stunned, and the dragon’s left to wonder just what kind of strong power Azusa has. How
could she suffer from such a humiliating defeat? With a fake smile, Azusa approaches Laika and
tells her to fix her house. And if she doesn’t? Well, Azusa – the witch who just blitzed
her like a fly – will make her regret it. Scared, Laika says yes and ask
s the witch if she
can first retrieve her money from her hometown. Azusa allows her but warns that if she runs away… Laika flees, promising to come back, leaving
Azusa to look at the wreckage of her home. Azusa looks at her destroyed house – she'll
have to stay in the village for a while. Though she planned on staying in an inn, the
villagers love Azusa so much that they insist that she stay in the guest room of the Flatta
Village Office. They even celebrate her over dinner at a restaurant,
where the crowd makes a
toast, thanking her for protecting their village. The next day, a guest asks to meet Azusa.
She sees a small girl in a red dress who immediately bows and apologizes. Confused, she
asks if they have already met. It turns out that this little girl is Laika, the great dragon since
apparently, the dragon race can change their form. She gives Azusa the bag of money, and the witch
thanks her as it’s more than enough to repair her house. Suddenly, Laika starts getting shy,
and she
eventually reveals that she has a favor to ask. She wants to be the witch’s pupil
because their fight made her realize that she still has so much more
to learn. Azusa panics at this. She likes Laika's enthusiasm, but she didn't
really do any special training to get so strong. She explains that her habit of killing the
local slimes is the only reason for it. But the dragon is persistent; she asks to
live with Azusa as her worker. Genos also begs Saitama to—wait, wrong anime—Laika a
lso
begs Azusa to let her learn about her day-to-day activities. Azusa thinks about her proposal,
and in the end, she agrees. This might make her slow life more possible. For Laika’s first
task, she has to rebuild the house she wrecked, and the dragon decides on building a
bigger one to suit two people better. Laika works tirelessly the entire day, and
at sunset, Azusa tells her to wrap up for the day so they can return to the village. Her
pupil, however, insists that she can keep going. A
fter all, dragons can see in the dark, so if
she works all night, the house will be finished the following day! Azusa remains still while
listening, and when the girl was done, she slowly walks up to her, saying that working all night is
a big no. The dragon is confused. She just wants to show her master how hard she can work, what’s
wrong with that? In turn, Azusa scolds her, saying that it isn’t good to overuse the phrase ‘working
hard’ in a positive light. This surprises Laika, and while
she walks away, Azusa says that
it’s getting dark, which means the world is telling them: ‘You’ve done enough for today’.
She didn’t get strong by pushing herself too hard; she only put in moderate effort every day. And now
that Laika is her student, she wants her to uphold that lifestyle, too. If Laika is tired or can't
keep going, she shouldn't hesitate to say so. The dragon tears up, touched by
how considerate her mentor is. When the house is finally finished, Laika
gets nervous as the
witch looks around. But there's no need to be
worried because Azusa loves it. She excitedly pulls her hand
to celebrate in the village. Now, after 300 years of being
reincarnated into a witch, Azusa's life with her very first pupil began. EP.2 (half) On their way to the village, Azusa shows Laika
how she quickly defeats slimes with flicks of her fingers. The dragon is amazed, asking her
how many she usually kills in a day. Azusa explains she only goes for around 25 but that her
special ab
ility doubles the experience points. Laika thinks about it and realizes how the witch
doesn't really work too hard. Azusa tells her to lose that kind of thinking because if one works so
hard that they start sweating blood, it just means you know people are watching. You've probably
been using that with the intention of boasting. She reminds the dragon not to worry too much and
just go slow but steady in mowing down slimes. Soon enough, Laika will level up like her, too.
The next day, Laika v
olunteers to prepare their breakfast. The dragon has impressive
skills when it comes to cooking, but she can't set aside her values as a
dragon and ends up preparing huge servings. As the two of them enjoy the food,
Azusa praises Laika's cooking, so the dragon tells her she will make
food for her every day. But of course, Azusa tells Laika it shouldn't be like that
because they will take turns on who will cook. While cleaning the dishes, Azusa
tells Laika to ask if she has any questions ab
out the life they're living.
The dragon worriedly tells her about how she thinks the village of Flatta's
magic defense is extremely weak. She says that just one evil mage could reduce
it to a sea of flames. And because Azusa is slowly becoming well-known, it's not impossible
for the village to get attacked because of her. Laika then suggests that she creates a DIY
barrier. Knowing that one of Azusa's powers is Create Magic, the dragon brings her to a
high mountain and draws a magic circle
for her so the barrier will have a long-term effect.
Azusa is amazed by Laika's knowledge, and the dragon shyly tells her she learned all about it
when she went to an all-girls school. How cute. Azusa performs the magic, creating a
barrier that will catch and incapacitate anyone who tries to enter the
village with a wicked heart. When they visit the village, they find a thief who
can't move after trying to enter. Laika excitedly tells Azusa that her magic is finally working
and proudly tel
ls the old headman of the village about the barrier. The headman cries happy tears
and faces the crowd, announcing their village is finally safe thanks to the great witch. Azusa says
it's Laika who they need to praise. She explains that her pupil, the red dragon, is the one who
suggested the barrier. Someone in the crowd asks if Laika is the same dragon she fought with the
other day, and Azusa happily confirms this. She tells them that Laika is a nice and thoughtful
girl, so everyone should
treat her well. The crowd cheers, praising both Azusa
and Laika as Laika introduces herself. Having a great witch and a good-hearted
dragon on their side is indeed a blessing.
