guys, Congratulations on this. I watched three episodes back to back yesterday and I thought it was absolutely hilarious, how was it get in that call to say you can't work on Something by Sally Wainwright? I mean, I was elated. I was absolutely elated. Yeah. It's just a dream come true. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Nick... thank you, though. That's another thing You felt that maybe I just know that. I don't know, but I just, like. I think audition process is a fascinating way of, like, you sort of slow
ly kind of learn more and more about the role and then the kind of closer you get to, the sort of more you want it. And then it just becomes such a big thing. You start picturing in your mind, I always learn not to do that. Yeah. did you guys know each other before with you know, we knew of each. I think I knew that I knew, but I didn't expect we'd never met before. In fact, we don't really know each other now. really? Yeah. Lovely to meet you on camera. This is. I mean, obviously, there's the h
istorical side of things, you know, like the Highwaymen and sort of the the odd female that would be part of that kind of say that, too. But it's also quite funny. And, and that's because you two are really, really good at mixing comedy with seriousness. I think there's always humor, you know, within Sally's scripts and on in her characters. I think that makes them all the more real and flawed and untrue and, you know, relatable. So I think that's and I think that's essential and something Sally
does really well. Yeah, definitely. I think I mean, with Billy in particular, because he's otherworldly. Yeah, there was kind of quite a lot of fun stuff, sort of play with sort of his voice, kind of how he moves, how he looks and stuff. So it was inherently his his presence is surprising, certainly to now and often no one else can see him. So it's a funny dynamic, as in the set up is funny almost. Yeah, because it's sort of like, well, they're kind of this odd couple really. It's sort of a dou
ble act, sort of chemistry to it where one of them sort of maybe more confident than the other. But it kind of, you know, it flips a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. So they kind of they bounce off each other. Well, let's watch accents. Nick, I don't think I've ever seen you do Northern accent before. like, I don't know. I think know, I mean, I see like, okay, I mean I do Northern accent and Ted Lasso and I'm from the north and so you, you know you you know I sound like a southern. Yeah. Yeah. Well, my a
ccent is I guess slightly neutral now, but, but yeah, I'm from, I'm from Leeds originally, so, you know, it's not that difficult to sort of go up to that. So. Yeah. So, you know, it was we tried I mean we actually tried lots of different accents for Billy we Scottish Rabbit we really like. Yeah. The guys come on, the guys test for it and, and, and I remember Ben Taylor, the director Ben and maybe even John Jennings. Well producers saying we just got to we kind of want a balance of action because
we basically got every single accent is in the show. So we kind of had to just sort of be and and I've said this before, but I increasingly felt that Billy was probably Sally Wainwright, really, that Billy was sort of the guide for this character in her head. And it's quite not sure where it's going, but sort of finding this sort of path together. So I just, you know, we kind of landed on and because I, I knew I could sort of probably make it funniest. And Northern colloquially colloquially but
are certain was it you can't say like you couldn't say okay okay well no and occasionally I'd say okay this sort of riff on the line a bit and it's like, no, it's not around. There's actually an adlib in the first episode where I, I say, Are you done? And we're done. What's left by Davis. I've been I wanted them to get rid of it. I mean, soft baby. That was like, yeah, what about you? Yeah, I mean, I've always I've always since I was a small child, I always had fun putting on different accents
and yeah, it's like getting the opportunity for someone to trust you to actually do one. So yeah, with the Cockney, I was scared to do it because obviously the infamous Dick Van Dike show, I mean, made this an, you know, criticized accent to do, But my partner's actually a Cockney and obviously and I lived with his family at the time, so he was great. And he was he was really blind. He and he read in for Billy for when I would I would always I would hear the guys that your boyfriend then. great.
Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thank you so, so much, both of you. I really enjoyed that. And congratulations again. Thanks. Thank you. Thank you. I love to meet you. I think it's a. Ladies and gentlemen, you are watching. Hey, you guys. Yeah, you guys are you guys? I That's what they all say. You guys. Hey, guys.
