A reporter from The Free Press went to a Democratic Socialists of America convention and asked some basic questions about how this whole "abolishing capitalism" thing was going to work out. They kicked him out... and then something surprising happened.

let's take a look at what happened at a recent
Democratic Socialist convention an outlet named The Free Press founded by ex-new York Times
journalist gone independent Barry Weiss who I'm a big fan of uh and a reporter named Ben
koala sorry if I mispronounced that he went to the Democratic socialists of America's convention
in Chicago and then uh it didn't go great let's roll this this extended uh it is lengthy
clip from the uh reporting that he produced it won't happen all at once but
grad
ually I won't be able to buy anything I was at McCormick Place in Chicago
for a Convention of the democratic socialists of America I wouldn't call us in
a pre-revolutionary situation you know we're in a pre-pre-pre-revolutionary situation I was
there with an open mind after all I've always thought of the left as fighting the good fight
you know that uh Democratic promise that we have supposedly in this country of government formed
by the people I don't see it became disillusioned with you k
now how each how we treat the work
in poor in the United States and elsewhere right together we can be a force against our
shared enemies fascism imperialism racism and capitalism basically all the isms my question for
these people was about that last ISM capitalism now I'm no Economist but I can Google basically
capitalism is what you have when businesses are privately owned and operate for profit but you
may notice that capitalism describes nearly any business you can think of from Supers
tores to
your local hair salon does all of that really have to go you're afraid that there's
not going to be like a concerned yeah but there's no reason to think there won't
be stuff it's very strange do you feel like we need to abolish capitalism in time yes how
do we do that and what comes after I'd like to see it become like a Star Trek Utopia you know
that's just that's just me does anyone say hey can we maybe like not be like oh we need to
get rid of all of capitalism everywhere like
has anyone expressed that I think that would be
a shortcut to achieve wider Consciousness it's where do I get a sandwich in your socialist
Utopia the corner store that's a very bizarre question sadly I was kicked out before I could
talk to anyone less evasive thank you ma'am I don't understand yeah unfortunately
it's just how it's going to be so that's awfully authoritarian I mean you know
we're an abolitionist organization police but the hotel has its own kind of procedures we left
before
the abolitionists could remove Us by force and I noticed another event taking place and these fun positive not hostile
I'm at the black Women's Expo [Music] I had stumbled Upon A convention for black female
entrepreneurs we have mango honey tea we have pineapple honey tea and we have Peach honey tea
now this was more like it I love that reaction these all candles oh my God can I smell this
one oh I like that it's good and fruity okay I came here to cover socialism but now I
was luxuriating
in the sights and smells of sweet sweet Commerce I have 15 businesses
have a therapy business a cleaning business uh Drop Shipping e-commerce these were some of
the most rabid capitalists I'd ever met and so I make like tumblers I make the glass cups which
is here this is [ __ ] be gone it kills 99 percent of thoughts and [ __ ] and it eliminates hoes
I'm author of 17 books 17 autobiographies I wish I could be both this productive and
this self-involved I have the second part down I couldn
't resist talking politics do
you think we should get rid of capitalism it's a part of our everyday life in my
honest opinion it's necessary the world doesn't work without it it just doesn't
capitalism is a thing it's never going anywhere it doesn't really benefit certain
people and then it does others [Music] can benefit you if you know how to actually
make it work for you that's just the way the world works you have to live with what you
got son so for me at least it did not surprise me
how many of these self-described Democratic
socialists or whatever really were ill-equipped to describe their exact alternative to capitalism
right or or how it will actually work because for me those types tend to have a lot of Pie in the
Sky Notions about workers will rule or everything will be decided based on fairness and needs but
the actual implementation is not you know often something they've thought through very much yeah
this is why I often say I think socialism is a childish ideo
logy I don't think it's grounded in
an understanding of human nature of systems of how countries have operated and even of just like
the failures of the various systems throughout history and what has succeeded what is not so
I wasn't surprised to hear this I did laugh a good bit at the guy who said his mentality was he
hoped it could be like Star Trek the lack of depth um that people are putting into this and yet
they're out of conference discussing I guess ways to overthrow capitalism so
the good news
is for us I don't think they're anywhere close to figuring it out so I'm glad that these are not
super effective deep people because then we might actually be in trouble um but I did think it was
sort of funny that you can just tell nobody's ever talked to them outside their bubble right nobody's
ever pushed back on them or really made them defend their beliefs or explain how they might
put them into practice and I do think that's quite in contrast to people in our camp for ex
ample
I'm constantly being asked to defend My Views to defend capitalism to explain how I might do
things differently than the two parties that I'm pushing back against and that's good I appreciate
that kind of rigor and you know I always want to be aware of holes in my thinking so I don't mind
that at all but I do just think it's interesting how much we're put on the defense uh when it comes
to our views even though they've had more success than any others throughout history and yet people
with this mentality just get a pass all the time I do find it deeply hilarious that they kick out
I'm not surprised I think he was kind of surprised because this journalist is a liberal journalist
I assume because the Free Press is more of a liberal kind of like independent critical liberal
leaning um Outlet so I don't actually I shouldn't say that I don't know what he is but I my guess
is that he's a liberal journalist so he thought like oh you know I'll go discuss we'll exchange
ideas y
eah people on the the super Progressive left are really not into that they don't Vibe with
that so the idea that he was thrown out uh doesn't Shock Me in the slightest not one bit I think
it's very funny that they you know people have this again just completely ungrounded in history
understanding of how socialists operate they're very authoritarian they do not handle dissent
very well they definitely have not upheld civil liberties by any stretch of the imagination
when they have tried to p
ut this philosophy into practice so I thought this was exactly
in keeping with what you would suspect to see um but you know I think more people should be
exposed to this kind of person and I I hate to throw everybody in this Camp under the bus I'm
sure there are many well-meaning people who are just not very educated who fall into like marks
of socialist beliefs but I often do say you can tell how good an ideology is by how the vast
majority of people who believe in it behave and conduct t
hemselves and when you look at how
Marxist and socialists interact with others how they cannot play nice with others whatsoever and
how they very quickly are hypocritical about their values when they're tested in any way I think it's
indicative of just the complete failings of this philosophy and I think it's so funny because their
whole philosophy is like rooted in the idea that people will just not they will just take care of
each other and don't need to they can overcome their self-inter
est and we can all just operate
for the CR the greater good and yet when they're not very you know gregarious when in these kinds
of situations I mean I just find it hilarious I will say the Socialist convention crowd from the
clips he published is very white and very male and a lot of also I will say a lot of masks a lot
of masks and a lot of beer bellies um or gamer bellies more accurately uh I will say I found it
so hilarious that this was unplanned and they just happened he went to this
convention in Chicago and
at the convention center there happened to also be a convention for black women entrepreneurs
and you go there and I'm like this is amazing this is like the best part of capitalism all
these small business owners going out there and providing goods and services that are unique
that are sophisticated that are beautiful some of the stuff they show if you're just listening is
really cool it's really intricate they're meeting people's needs making the world a better p
lace and
making themselves money and providing for their family at the same time while also being you know
people who the left would say are marginalized in society yet they're the ones out here
hustling and thriving while a bunch of you know the white dudes are down the hall bitching about
how rigged the system is and they can't get ahead I loved this I loved it so much for so many
reasons first and foremost I think black women Make the World Go Round I mean these women are
I've had the o
pportunity to work around many black women entrepreneurial types and they are
incredible the things that they're achieving and doing and they don't sit around and complain about
this just go do it and if there's a barrier they find a way around it and they have this incredible
Community I've noticed that you know I haven't often found in my own situations in circles where
they really do uplift one another and Empower one another and try to shop at each other's businesses
and it's just it's
excellent it's so great and what I find so interesting about this is yes the
irony of like these black women just getting out there getting it being successful making products
that make people's lives better and then the like loser white men sit around the corner feeling
sorry for themselves and feel like they need a bigger hand up that's a hilarious contrast but
I also say you know you often have on the right these images pushed of like welfare queens and
people in the black community don'
t want to work and like all of these equally like ridiculous
assertions that if you actually just go spend time in the black community you will be quickly
dissuaded of And yet when we saw this conference I'm just struck by the fact like these people
should be like right-wing supporters and would be if two conditions were met one the right
actually stood for capitalism which I argue it very rarely does more so than the last but
like not consistently at all and two just did basic Outreach rig
ht like people often act like
black people or Hispanic people are just a given for the left and that's one argument you'll
hear against immigration all the time on the right of like they're just trying to get more
voters there is absolutely no reason that black communities or Hispanic communities or any other
community would just happen to be Democrat except for the fact that the right doesn't do basic
Outreach they don't go into these communities they don't actually get to know these peopl
e
they don't take time to understand the issues they actually care about when they do try to do
anything whatsoever it's often very pandering oh like black people need to wake up and leave the
Democrat Plantation like that's not offensive and cringe right or like or they'll Empower you know
these black Republican like commentator types who actually are very anti-black in their messaging
who I don't think have really ever spent that much time in the black community from things that
they say
and that again are quite griftery and not reaching the average day in day out black person
who again is often very entrepreneurial very much a believer in capitalism often has had a long
history of understanding the problems of big government in the way it's been weaponized against
their Community these people socially they are not woke they're not hard left and that's I gotta
add one other thing guys I think it's equally crazy but I've seen people on the right saying
like with Trump being
charged here in Georgia and the fact that he's being overcharged that that's
gonna really get the black community on his side because they also hate the criminal justice system
and I'm like no I've had somebody who has worked Criminal Justice Reform let me tell you the black
community number one not normally with you they're often pushing pushing for stiffer penalties in
the justice system because they're often having to live in these crime-ridden neighborhoods that
police are failing to a
ctually clean up and so one first and foremost they're not automatically
with you on a Criminal Justice Reform thing period two t insinuate that like because Trump
got overcharged all the black communities gonna be upset because I think your end point here is
that all the black communities had run-ins with the justice system which is racist and wrong and
just not correct whatsoever but like these are the things that I think are such a problem when
you don't spend time actually getting to kn
ow the people you're trying to reach you'll look like
a clown when you try to message to them or talk about them and you really really miss the mark
and I think that this kind of interview is proof of why there should be a lot more Outreach going
on and a lot more bridge building happening in these communities and I think you'd find that we
have a lot of commonality and a lot of things we could work on together but instead the right
just you know demonizes people or strawmans them or comple
tely misses The Mark with things
that they care about and I hope this kind of video would wake people up to that because I've
seen this for many many years in my work now
Comments
I love it when the people who rigged the system complained that the system is rigged.
That lady: Get rid of all the "ism"s. Socialism: 👁️👄👁️
After Joe Biden’s “you ain’t black“ statement, the plantation analogy stands.
My nephew was there🤦♀️
its so interesting that certain group of people have certain looks
"PLEASE DONT USE GENDERED LANGUAGE!"😂😂
Hannah and Brad being the only sane people on the wide web once again.
The dichotomy in the productivity of those two groups was hilarious!
Everything about this is perfect.
I’m first generation here in US. My parents, grandparents and I experienced communism in Poland until it’s fall in 89. Yeah we engaged in capitalism. Because of lack of Everything everyone had a side hustle, and the (communist) state had to look away. Dude repaired cars on a side, and he wouldn’t get shut down, because there would be nowhere to repair that gray market German car that the owner bough over the border. You wouldn’t shut down a underground hair saloon because the “party members” wife still wants to look good. These services were not deemed needed by the Communists. We were just workers and farmers, and all luxuries we needed were basic means of public transportation to work and maybe a halfassed cafeteria.
I love when they bring up Star Trek. I ask them how many episodes were about trading for supplies. I.E. Capitalism! It's still needed even when you can replicate almost anything.
The thing about people with criminal records supporting Trump, a lot of them have lost their voting rights after going to prison.
finally, I found sane voices that criticize the conservatives without hysteria.
This is incredibly based!
Damn, those candles look good
Were these the ones that banned clapping a few years ago and had a bunch of attendees whining about sensory issues?
Brad where did you get that shirt? 🔥
Like everything with the government
I can't recall if it was Marx, Lenin, or Gramchi who said it (or if it's even any of the three at all) that Liberal ideas would be the foothold for the revolution, but that ultimately the Liberal ideas and their followers would be "Retired" for the good of the revolution.
2:14 I don't even understand how capitalism fits into the other isms they hate
