are using advanced computer vision algorithms to identify landmarks, avoid obstacles, and navigate
autonomously, even in GPS-denied environments. LiDAR sensors provide precise
3D maps of the surroun
dings, enabling safe navigation and landing in
complex and unstructured environments. Drones can now simultaneously build a map
of their surroundings while keeping track of their own location, allowing for
real-time exploration and adaptation. Drones are equipped with AI algorithms
to make real-time decisions about path planning, obstacle avoidance, and mission
execution, even in dynamic environments. Second, longer flight times and improved
battery technology are yielding fruits. Advancem
ents in motor technology have
led to lighter and more efficient drones, reducing power consumption
and extending flight times. Lithium-ion battery improvements have
boosted capacity and reduced weight, allowing drones to stay airborne for
longer and cover greater distances. And then, of course, researchers are
developing drones that can recharge their batteries mid-flight using solar panels,
potentially enabling unlimited flight duration.
