Annual s go Latino film festival and tonight the atmosphere that we've come to know and love a lot of bustling a lot of different languages being talked about but at the center of all those conversations is the films I've got a very important person with me this is Maria paa Loria she is the new artistic director for the San Diego Latino Film Festival all the way from Bogota Colombia Maria thank you so much for being with us tell me a little bit about how you got involved with the Festival this
year well I am I'm a programmer of Latino Cinema I have worked in the cinema Tech of OTA many years in different festivals all around Latin America and the organization was looking for someone that creates the films and have like an artistic direction for this year that's why I came to San Diego and I'm really thrilled to be in one of the most important Film Festival of Latino films in in your country so you just mentioned something for us it's oh yeah the San Diego Latino Film Festival give us
a bit of perspective in the Latino World worldwide how big of a deal is our Festival here it's really important because H we have approximately 30 H California premieres this is the place where Latino films get released or get seen for the first time so it's really important for Latino filmmakers to see their films a screen for the first time in North America so it's it's really like relevant for the industry that we have this place to release the films also it's not only important in for Calif
ornia but for all North America we have like more than 30% of the population is Latino so it's important to also see different representations of Latino culture in our screens so there you heard it guys throughout the Latino film world where the can or one of them of the Latino film World Maria you have curated a big part of this Festival what are you most looking forward to well I recommend you all the spotlight films I was the creator of that program is the a program that contains all the best
films of 2023 beginning of 2024 we have films that were recently selected in sandance film festival that we are watching them as North American Premiere so we have a lot of Brazilian films Argentinian films we have for example Malu from Brazil Frida a new film documentary that it's the opening film that was just released in the world had a world premiere at sandance so we have a variety of new films that will will be released for first time here in San Diego lot of cool stuff to see when this F
