Govind, let's get your bandage removed? Let's do that after
we sort out this issue. These are the guys. When did you people arrive? You needn't have come all this way. You could have come home
to talk this out. Yeah, right. We could have come to
your home to talk this out... because you sent word to us that
a girl lost her hand in a factory accident? Don't talk that way. We were more concerned about getting her
to the hospital than sending word to you. Anyway, you got to know
and you are here no
w. If we hadn't, you'd have cheated them
with a small handout. Don't you dare accuse us! No one is going to cheat anyone. Sivalingam, what do you expect
as compensation for the girl? It's not for me to decide. You should talk to
the girl's father. Comrade, fetch him. Don't call me 'Comrade'. I work for my boss. Come on,
the boss beckons you. Come on. How much compensation
do you expect for your girl? Answer him. Tell him. Give me 3 lakhs. - What?
- I need to get her married. Three lakhs? If I pa
y you that kind of money,
I will have to close my factory. No boss has ever gone broke
by paying compensation to his workers. But 3 lakhs is unfair! If you had spent 10 grand
to put a guard for the short belt... you wouldn't have had
to pay this compensation at all. You don't give a damn about
poor people's lives. That poor girl has to manage
the rest of her life without a hand... That's a very fair price.
Pay him. Mind your language. Give me two days time. I need to talk to our union. If you do
n't pay up in two days,
all factories in town will come to a halt. Come to a halt? Yeah. Come. Did you see his arrogance? If all of us bosses are united,
it wouldn't have come to this. They think all the bosses
are swimming in money! He needs to be a boss
to understand our plight. He threatens to stop our factories. I have no idea. Come in. Sit down. Come in, brother-in-law. - You got delayed?
- There was a big traffic jam. Sit down. You are the girl's father? Yes, sir. Sit. - Drink this.
- No t
hanks, boss... Come on!
Drink up. - It's wrong.
- Don't be so rigid. We know you drink toddy. This is really good liquor.
You'll never get the chance again. Here. Just drink it. What about you?
Need a special invite? - No thanks, boss.
- Come on, take this! Don't act naive! Go ahead and drink.
Don't feel shy. Ammavasi, did I ever say
I won't compensate your girl's loss? Why did you go
to the Union? Not at all, boss.
I never went to them. I don't even know where
the union office is. I consider yo
u to be my god. I won't disobey you. - How can you doubt me?
- There... I told you, Govind. These guys aren't that smart. Someone has instigated them. Come here. Sign this paper. Sign...? Ah, you can't sign? Here, too. Keep it safely in your pocket. You thought I'd do nothing
if something happened to your girl? Sit. Thirty grand. Rangan, hope you are happy? Have another round. You just got a fat wad of money.
Look at it stick out of your pocket! You are one lucky man. Boss... You took his impres
sions on a blank paper
and gave him the money. If the Union got to know
and questioned you tomorrow... what would you do? - Questioned me...?
- What would you do? The girl's father has settled
for a compensation. What can those idiots
ask me? My brother-in-law is here. You think he is a nobody? He works at the SP's office. If the Union people
try to mess with us... he will get everyone
locked up behind bars. Hope you won't have a change of mind
and blurt it out to the Union tomorrow? Boss, how c
an you say such a thing? I swear on my child,
I won't go back on my word. How can you even doubt me, Boss! Keep the money safely. I'll get your girl discharged
from the hospital tomorrow... and send her home by car, okay? Thanks! Do you have any brains? Why did you do this
after everything I told you? Is he your kith or kin?
Or from your caste? He cares for your daughter
more than you. Leader, you assured me
you wouldn't tell anyone... but you are going around
telling everyone! Comrade, let it g
o.
That's not important now. Leader, the boss got me drunk... Sure, he poured it
down your throat! When did he say
he'll get here? Around 10:30 or 11:00. Comrade, get 10 of our guys here. Don't let anyone know I'm here.
You go back to the ward. Go on. Why do you look dull, brother?
Did you have breakfast? - I did.
- No, he didn't. Why not? All thanks to me. What have you done? I didn't know the about the troubles
Rangan went through for you. The boss got me drunk, and gave me
some money, so I si
gned the papers... You call yourself a father? Go away, and don't come
to see me even when I die. Rangan and the Union people
will take care of me. Assume you never had a daughter. Don't stand in front of me.
Just go away. I promised the boss
on your behalf. To hell with your promise. Just for your satisfaction, we can
offer that money to Goddess Amman. - What's the problem?
- Nothing at all. Rangan, get everyone
downstairs to the car. Go and wait inside the car,
I'll clear all the payments. Bri
ng her out with care. Why are so many of you here?
What's the issue? Why are you here? - I'm getting the girl discharged.
- Have you paid the compensation? I've cleared that
with her father. Sathya, fetch the girl's father
and Rangan. Come here. You took the money
and signed the papers, didn't you? Tell them. Rangan, you tell them. Boss, they caught hold of Ammavasi and me
in the morning and threatened and hit us, demanding to know what happened
after they left. So I had no choice
but to tell th
em the truth. What he says is true. Trying to cheat innocent workers? Take your hand off me.
Don't you dare touch me. Sathya, why did you hit the boss. Whatever said and done,
he is still the boss. What, you think you are
a bunch of gangsters? If I go to the police,
you'll all be behind bars. Call the police!
We've faced it all. You should have gone to
the local police station... and filed a complaint when
the girl's hand got cut off. You have broken the law already. Secondly, you got a naive ma
n drunk... and threatened him with
your relative who works at the SP's office. Thirdly, you work at the Electricity Board
but run a loom factory on the side. You are in the wrong... but when we ask for justice,
you call us 'gangsters'? What do you want me to do now? If you pay the compensation we ask for,
there won't be any problems. If you don't, we know how
to take action on you legally... and illegally. The choice is yours. Deposit it in the girl's account. Rangan, why are you drinking water
right before lunch? I'm not hungry.
You go ahead. Come on, let's have a few parottas. No thanks.
You carry on. Fine, I'll get you some takeaway. Did you see Divya? I went and saw her yesterday. She was moving helplessly
with one hand. She asked about you. I want to see her too. But it takes half a day
to travel to her village and back. I have to wait till Friday. I feel really sad
thinking about her family. But you fought hard for her
and got her compensation from my uncle. - I'm so happy.
- Wha
t? I didn't do anything! It was the Union people. If not for them, your uncle
would have cheated Divya. Nevertheless, you were the one
who took this issue to the Union. Who said so? They came by themselves. Why are you getting worked up? No such thing... You should go and eat. If someone sees us talking,
we'd get into trouble. Nothing like that will happen.
Everyone knows. Knows what? About your 'guilty look'! Anyway, why aren't you eating? I'm not hungry. Just the mere thought
of eating hotel f
ood is frustrating. Here, you eat this. If I eat this,
what will you eat? Arjun is getting parottas for you, right?
I will eat that. That would be all dry and tasteless.
You don't deserve that. I love parottas. Listen to me.
Just go and eat your lunch. How can I eat my lunch
when you are starving here? What's with this
sudden affection towards me? It's not sudden,
I've felt this for a long time now. A long time? I don't understand
what you're trying to say. Are you really that dumb? Why are you
quiet? Considering the situation I am in,
I don't know what to say. But I can't lie
that I don't like you either.
