At the beginning of the movie, Ayu's older
sister Laras calls her, apologizing for last night, stating her job quitting was tough
and she knows Ayu is upset, but she did it all caring for her. We then see Laras with a man named Desmond,
who presents her with a ring. However, Laras firmly states that they should
no longer see each other, declaring that tonight is the last time. Desmond, disregarding the opinions of his
friends, family, and even his wife and children, insists that he doesn't care
about them. Laras saying this isn't what she wanted, begins
to leave. However, Desmond attempts to force himself
on her. In a desperate attempt to seek help, Laras
tries to call her sister but receives no answer. Desmond enraged and determined, declares that
if he can't have her, then no one will, and callously throws her off the balcony. Now when Ayu arrives at the hospital, she
encounters Arman, who informs her that Laras is currently undergoing surgery. Ayu questions why this happened, remind
ing
Arman that he promised to take care of her. Later, the doctor informs them that Laras
has suffered a dead brain stem and has 24 broken bones, and at this rate, only a miracle
could keep her alive. He also shows them an X-ray displaying needles
embedded in Laras's face but admits that this is beyond his area of expertise. The next day, taking the hospital bills into
account, Arman asks her if has she thought about any alternatives, and suggests considering
taking Laras to the countryside to s
eek the help of a shaman. The following day, the doctor pronounces Laras
dead. However, as soon as they cover her body, she
suddenly comes alive, shaking vigorously, and the doctors, Ayu, and Arman are astonished
to witness her return to life. That night, while Ayu is with Laras, the lights
start flickering erratically, and a nearby patient becomes visibly frightened, pointing
towards a corner of the room in fear. Alarmed by this, Ayu attempts to call the
nurse, but Laras abruptly sits up in bed
and gazes towards the same corner. Terrified, Ayu cautiously approaches Laras,
and we see a ghost standing right in front of her. The following day, Ayu agrees with Arman's
suggestion to seek out a shaman for help. She informs him that in their hometown, there's
a guy named Damar who could assist them and that very night, they transport Laras to their
hometown's house in Rejosari village. The next day, Ayu meets Damar, who is surprised
to see her back in the village. She explains to him that La
ras is unwell and
asks if he knows any shamans in the area who could help, to which Damar suggests that she
consult Rahmat, who resides near the market. Later, Ayu informs Arman that she met Ustaz
Rahmat and he will come here tomorrow. That night, as Ayu sits in her mother's makeup
room, watching old videos of her and Laras, the lights begin flickering. Soon after, she detects a strange smell emanating
from the room. Investigating further, she realizes the smell
is coming from a mannequin whose
face is broken, and to her horror, she discovers a rotting
face inside it. Startled, she moves back in fear and notices
Laras's face on the mannequin face, and when Arman rushes in hearing her screams, Ayu shows
him Laras's face on the mannequin, but he finds it normal and suggests her to take some
rest. The following day, Rahmat visits to assess
Laras's condition and inquires if Ayu knows when Laras started wearing susuk. Ayu remains silent, prompting Rahmat to explain
that individuals who wear
susuk may suffer longer if they fall ill or experience accidents
because their bodies are bound to the spell. Ayu asks if Laras can be saved, to which Rahmat
responds that it depends on Laras, and they can only leave it to God. He proceeds to perform a ritual to remove
the susuk from Laras's body, and during the ritual, Laras speaks in a demonic voice and
scratches Rahmat's face. However, undeterred, Rahmat persists with
the ritual, and after a while, Laras calms down and eventually faints. Rah
mat then informs them that the susuk in
Laras's body is unusually potent, indicating that they should be prepared to let her go. He then leaves there, and unbeknownst to them,
a man named Seno watches them secretly from a distance. That night, while conversing with his friends,
it is revealed that Laras had rejected Seno once in the past. One of his friends begins mocking him about
this, triggering a surge of anger within Seno, prompting him to lash out violently, brutally
beating his friend in
response to the mockery. Meanwhile, Ayu is reading about a susuk expert
named Prasetyo when she suddenly catches a glimpse of Laras's reflection on the screen,
but when she turns around, Laras is fast asleep. As Ayu attempts to retrieve her phone from
under the bed, she is startled to see someone moving toward the bed. Hastily, she gets up to investigate but finds
no one there. Confused, she returns to the bed, and suddenly,
Laras opens her eyes and appears to be trying to convey something to Ay
u. Ayu asks her what's wrong, and we see a ghost
behind her, and suddenly, Ayu gets horrified to see something in the room. The next day, it is revealed that Rahmat has
passed away and his face has significantly decayed. Seno informs them that Rahmat had visited
Laras the previous day and discovered that she was wearing Susuk. He had attempted to remove the Susuk, but
Laras experienced seizures during the process. Seno then brings up a viral news story about
a sex worker being thrown out of a bu
ilding by a politician, and shockingly, it is revealed
that the sex worker was Laras. Meanwhile, Arman is about to go to meet Prasetyo
at Ayu's request when they get shocked by an announcement that Rahmat has died, and
Ayu asks Arman if was it because of Laras. Arman asks her to calm down saying it has
nothing to do with her and they should just focus on Laras. Later, Damar visits Ayu and asks about Laras. Ayu updates him, mentioning that Laras is
still in her room if he wants to see her, and ad
ds that there have been no changes in
her condition over the past month. Damar asks Ayu if Rahmat came over yesterday,
to which she confirms and asks if is it true that he passed away? Damar affirms this, stating he was just at
the funeral. He then prepares to leave, advising Ayu to
reach out if she needs anything. Before leaving, Damar inquires about another
individual staying with Ayu, to which she responds that he is Arman, Laras's friend. Damar remarks that Arman has become the talk
of the v
illage and suggests that Ayu should ask Arman to announce his presence. On the other hand, Arman meets Prasetyo and
describes Laras's condition to him. Prasetyo, acknowledging that he is currently
occupied, advises Arman to bring Laras to him, and he will do something about it. Later that night, while washing Laras, Ayu
is horrified to discover an eye in one of her wounds. Shortly after, the door of a closet opens
on its own, and someone comes out, causing Laras to become extremely frightened, a
nd
as Ayu turns around, she also gets startled to see someone else, but then Arman returns
home and Ayu tells him that someone was there in the closet. Arman carefully moves towards the closet but
when he opens it, he does not find anyone there. At that moment, Laras begins to writhe in
pain, and they notice that her body is rotting, emitting a foul odor. Arman tells Ayu that they must take her immediately,
and in the next scene, we see them at Prasetyo's place, who checks her and tells them tha
t
she has too many Susuk. The energy is colliding in her body so he
will try to take them all out, and asks them to wait outside. Prasetyo then begins a ritual and sings some
ancient song or spell, he applies a paste on her body, and after a while, Laras becomes
unconscious. Shortly thereafter, she sits up abruptly,
and suddenly, numerous bats begin streaming out of her mouth. The lights in the house flicker ominously,
and as the door swings open, the swarm of bats flies out of the room. Laras f
alls unconscious again, and as Prasetyo
removes the needles, the demon within her awakens, questioning who dares disturb it. Arman and Ayu witness Prasetyo's struggle
to subdue the demon, and after a fierce battle, he demands the demon reveal itself and leave
Laras's body. However, the demon claims ownership of her
body, refusing to leave. Prasetyo then secures Laras and meticulously
removes all the needles from her body. He then turns to Arman, explaining that these
small objects are vessels fo
r djinns. He tells him that they promise a shortcut
to happiness, but if they're careless with it, it will turn into a curse. Prasetyo hands the needles to Arman, revealing
that the first ever susuk she wore, he didn't manage to take it out, because whoever put
it in her, their power is much greater than the others, and he is afraid that if he takes
that one out, she won't be able to stand it, and it might take her life. After a few days, Ayu encounters the villagers'
scorn at the market, with q
uestions about Laras wearing susuk. They accuse Ayu of disgracing the village,
suggesting Laras should have died in Jakarta, implying both mother and daughter are tainted
by susuk. As Ayu departs, Seno approaches her and tells
her that once he fancied her sister, and that's why he wants to help. Ayu says she just wants to go home and begins
leaving, prompting Seno to insult her sister, implying she's a prostitute. Enraged, Ayu goes back to him and slaps him,
and in retaliation, Seno disparages A
yu's family, labeling both her mother and sister
as prostitutes. He reveals that her mother died similarly
to her sister, accusing her family of disturbing the village's peace. Ayu begins to leave without responding, prompting
Seno to taunt her to ask Damar, who was one of the men who had relations with her mother,
and she doesn't even know that she and her sister have different fathers. Meanwhile, Damar notices his wife leaving
the house who expresses her intention to stay with the children bec
ause she can't bear the
village gossip. She laments that the family has become the
subject of village chatter, warning Damar of the embarrassment if people discover the
truth about "that woman." He says the story about Ratri was over a long
time ago, but she angrily instructs him never to mention that name again and urges him to
just finish his business with that girl. Damar reveals to Ayu that Ratri was once the
most beautiful woman in the village, captivating many men who fell in love with her
. However, her mother chose to marry Kresno,
leading to heartbreak for the other men. Laras was born from this union, but it was
later discovered that her mother had a secret affair with another man, resulting in Ayu's
birth. When Kresno learned the truth after raising
Ayu for three years, he was furious, and his murder attempt enraged the villagers. The situation spiraled into chaos, resulting
in her father's death from the villagers' mob. But the tragedy didn't end there. While her mother surv
ived, she lived in a
state of emotional and physical decay, mirroring Laras's condition. It's revealed that her mother also wore susuk,
and despite efforts by a shaman, not all of the susuk could be removed from her body,
and ultimately, they decided to bury her through a ritual. That night, Ayu is awakened by a noise and
is alarmed to find Laras missing from her bed. She comes out to check and is horrified to
hear the sound of water splashing and a woman humming a song, and to her shock, she di
scovers
her mother bathing Laras in blood. As she reels from the sight, a demonic presence
approaches her, but Arman arrives just in time, and he too is stunned to find Laras
there. The following day, they're dismayed to witness
Laras's body beginning to decompose once more, and Arman says he thinks they've explored
all possibilities and suggests that Rahmat and Prasetyo may have been correct all along
and they need to let her go. Ayu says if he wants to give up, he can, but
she won't. Arman exp
resses concern that their efforts
might be causing Laras more suffering, but Ayu insists that she'll find a solution, with
or without his help. Feeling helpless, Arman questions where their
endless search for help has left them and who else could assist them. Suddenly, Damar intervenes, claiming to know
someone who can help, and urges Ayu to follow him. Damar tells her about Suwardi, who had previously
helped her mother, and suggests that she might be the only one who can help Laras. However, up
on arriving at Suwardi's house,
they discover that she passed away a year ago. Meanwhile, Laras sits up on the bed, completely
healed, and Arman is astonished to see her restored health and feels overwhelmed with
joy. He expresses his apologies for not being able
to protect her and for the suffering she endured. On the other hand, Damar confides in Ayu,
explaining that he knows so much about Ratri because he was the man her mother was in a
relationship with, and Upon learning this, Ayu gets out
of the car and runs away. Meanwhile, Laras initiates kissing Arman,
and we see her body still decayed. After a while, Ayu gets shocked to find Arman
on top of Laras, and Arman gets startled to see Laras's deteriorated condition once more. He attempts to explain to Ayu that Laras was
awake, but she slaps him and demands that he leave. Later, as Arman is preparing to leave for
Jakarta, he notices Seno and his friends heading towards Laras' house. Seno proceeds to cut Laras' house electricity,
and
just as they are about to depart, Arman arrives. He confronts them, demanding to know what
they are doing, but in response, they attack him. Arman attempts to defend himself, but they
injure him, however, despite the injuries, Arman manages to drive them away from the
scene. Meanwhile, Ayu is lighting candles at home
when a girl takes her name and blows out a candle, and when Ayu goes in that direction,
that girl appears behind her and blows out another candle as well. Ayu follows her laughter a
nd comes inside
the house only to come face to face with her mother, a sight that terrifies her deeply. Ayu turns on the flashlight of her phone and
starts moving forward, but then she hears the girl crying from behind who then disappears
from there. Then, a demonic voice echoes around her, and
Ayu gets startled to see Laras there, who swiftly attacks her and attempts to strangle
her. Just in the nick of time, Damar and Prasetyo
arrive, and Prasetyo instructs Damar to take Ayu away as he has to
do the ritual. He informs Ayu that Laras is no more, and
that the entity within the susuk has taken over her body. As Prasetyo prepares for the ritual, Damar
reveals to Ayu that since Suwardi couldn't remove all the susuk from her mother's body,
she placed a cage in her mother's grave to hold her body. So if Prasetyo fails in the ritual, their
only option will be to take Laras to their mother's grave. Meanwhile, as Prasetyo initiates the ritual,
Laras forcefully throws him aside. Now to combat t
he demon, Prasetyo unveils
his spiritual power in the form of a tiger. He leaps toward Laras, but she dodges his
attack, and then a fierce struggle initiates between them, and after a prolonged battle,
Prasetyo finally succeeds in overpowering her, knocking her down. On the other hand, Seno gathers the villagers
and instigates them that they have to drive out Laras and his sister from this village. Meanwhile, Prasetyo is shocked to witness
Laras's unexpected healing, and he attempts to extract t
he last susuk from her body, Laras,
now seemingly back to her seductive self, tries to lure him in. Suddenly, she launches a vicious attack, sinking
her teeth into his neck and biting the flesh out of it. Hearing his screams, Ayu and Damar rush inside
and are horrified to find Laras over Prasetyo's lifeless body. Damar urgently informs Ayu that they must
quickly transport Laras to the grave, and while wrapping Laras in a cloth, he reveals
that her mother's grave is beneath the weeping fig tree.
Suddenly, Seno and the villagers arrive, prompting
Damar to instruct Ayu to bury Laras in the same grave as her mother's. Just then, Arman arrives at the scene, and
Damar entrusts both his daughter and Laras to him. As they leave, Damar steps forward to confront
the villagers, but they forcefully push him back and enter the house, and discover Prasetyo's
lifeless body. However, by then, Ayu and Arman have already
left with Laras. In a fit of rage, Seno comes out from the
house and unleashes his
fury upon Damar, ultimately killing him, and then he departs from the
scene, determined to chase after Ayu. Taking a shortcut, Seno suddenly appears in
front of them, blocking their path, and with no other option, Ayu instructs Arman to drive
over him. Confused and fearful, Arman accelerates the
car, ultimately colliding with Seno and crushing him against a tree. Upon reaching the graveyard, they are bewildered
to find numerous graves. They begin digging a grave, but to their dismay,
discover th
at it is not her mother's grave. Just then, Ayu's attention goes towards a
grave, and looking at the cloth on it, she realizes that this is her mother's grave. Together they start digging the grave, but
during this, Laras suddenly moves. Ayu eventually locates her mother's body,
but upon coming out from the grave, she encounters Laras standing outside. Laras immediately attacks Ayu, attempting
to kill her, but Arman intervenes to protect her. However, In the struggle, Laras bites Arman
on the ne
ck and kills him. Laras then undergoes a sudden change, speaking
in her own voice and pleading for Ayu's help. She embraces Ayu, insisting that she is truly
herself. However, Ayu, overwhelmed by the events, makes
the desperate decision to force Laras into the grave with her mother, and It looks as
if all the darkness finally leaves Laras when she’s in the grave next to her mother. After covering the grave, Ayu returns to Arman’s
taxi that they used to get there. She cleans herself up in the rear
view mirror,
pretending as if nothing happened, and the movie ends here.
