His love of film began as an escape from a rocky childhood. From underdog to Hollywood legend, Sylvester Stallone tells his story in this documentary.
What is healthier,
to live under the illusion and still have a glimmer of hope
that you could have been great, or blow it
and you realize you're a failure? I think the easier route
is to live under the illusion, and say, "If I'd had that chance,
I would have beaten all of them." Who is this man, Sylvester Stallone?
Artist, writer, poet, performer. How does that happen? I'd given up on acting. I was done. He wasn't cast in things because
he was deemed uncastable. The rejection
was my encouragemen
t. At that point, I knew my fate
was determined on the pen. The genius behind that,
this was not an accident. This is the theater
where Rocky premiered. My brother goes, "This could be the best day
or the worst day of your life." Something happened.
Something magical. You could hear the cheers
from the inside outside on the street
from the theater. It's the last picture
of him being unknown. When Stallone became famous,
he wasn't expecting the downside. When you're
a truly absorbed filmmaker, yo
u put things before your family and the repercussions
are quite devastating. Now I realize
that's all that fuckin' matters. If I lost everything,
could I actually go back and start over again? Not without family. Without the love of wife
or children… What's this? These are just pictures
of something that never existed. If I can take my frustration
and voice it, I have a funny feeling
that there's millions of people that have that same frustration,
that were overlooked. I'm in the hope business.

Sly was like "Hey if Arnie can get a documentary then I can too!" Haha 😅Looks cool. Sly is definitely one of the best action stars of the 80s and 90s.
I was thoroughly impressed by how intelligent this guy is. He speaks like a real filmmaker. The way he explained the deeper meaning behind Rambo and Rocky made perfect sense as to why both became so iconic. I watched the Schwarzenegger doccie as well and realized that Arnie was mostly a marketer... Sly however, was a real storyteller.
Because of Sly and Rocky I started working out when I was 12. Now 36 and never skipped a week. Great actor and writer but the best inspirer
"It's just pictures of something that never existed". This sentence made me appreciate him more
So many people forget that Sly is so much more than just an “action hero” he is an Actor, Producer, Director and Writer! He’s an absolute legend!
I can safely say this man has played a huge part in making me the man I am today. My biggest inspiration and I can’t wait to learn more about his story
I'm watching this now. I've always loved Sly Stallone. I love his story and his passion. He's a great guy.
For those who don't know the true story of his rise to fame, I truly hope they tell it here. That man is a living example of "if you believe it, you can achieve it"
One of the greatest actors of our generation. You’ll never be forgotten Sly!
Sly is the ultimate example of never giving up.
One of the most amazing docu's I've seen in a while. Sly really pours his heart out in this one. A great watch.
After watching Arnie's documentary I wanted to watch a Sly documentary so much. It's great Netflix release them back to back within the same year. These two guys are unmatched action icons.
Before John Wick, there was Rambo.
He made our childhood days golden.
Okay - I just watched this. Powerful & Inspiring- I want to go back in time and be his mom - I want to see how far he would have gotten if he had been given all the love and nurturing a child deserves from his/her parents; I want to hold the little boy and show him love and kindness. Life is not fair to children.....Sly, big hugs to you and your brother. My most heartfelt love to you and your bother - you both overcame so much and more importantly you did while remaining good men. You have daughters and they KNOW how much you love them and are there for them. In the end HOW YOU LOVE matters - and you have loved greatly! XO
The older he gets the more inspiring he becomes. Looks like a great documentary.
"I am in the hope business". Stallone is not only one of the greatest, if not the greatest action movie star in cinema history, but he is because of 'Rocky', one of the most inspiring people in the world, who inspired, encouraged, comforted and guided millions of young and old minds across the globe, to never give up and use exercise as a tool to instil confidence, positivity and good health in to your life. That is an extraordinary contribution! Thank you Sylvester Stallone!
"These are just pictures of something that never existed." - Man that touched something deep inside me
Sly is a legend, an icon, a master and a hero.
Wow! This man opened up to those who he loves the most, his fans! Fans, that according to him filled the gap in his life. Brutally honest, saddening, refreshing. The man, the legend... Sly! I ❤ you bro! A 51 years old fan from Holland.
