or how safe is it to post children on social media we've all been asking this question forever now a Tik Tok user made his argument for keeping kids off the internet especially parents who use their children for Content creation so I did a little experiment I created a fake page I made the profile picture Barbie put lots of content in there that little girls would like uh cartoons lots of pink absolutely no pictures of children and I would like to share with you uh just a few of the messages tha
t that account got hi sweetheart do you have any cute pictures to show what a pretty little girl you are I saw you like Barbie so does my little girl what's your name listen you really need to ask yourself what you are willing to ignore for likes and of course that doesn't surprise me at all but very disturbing joining us to talk about it social media expert Karen De Karen you're not surprised but disturbing at the same time because we know those type of people are out there looking to take adva
ntage of our children soon as we turn our heads absolutely um but ultimately I always argue that the responsibility uh falls on the parent it is their duty to protect their children right and so here this particular blogger is talking about a situation where he posted he created a fake page with just neutral images not even kids and here come some strange men from all over the world just asking if she's gotten any pictures yeah they thought it was a little girl who who may have been posting phot
os of Barbie dolls and other toys and they saw the the opportunity to go after her and sending her direct messages absolutely yeah and so this this like I said falls on the parent right so I I definitely want to encourage parents to strive for Comm communication strive to have access to those profiles and you know strive to have authority with their children because yes we we talked about this last week when I sat here in front of you and we talked about Governor Ronda Sansa wanting to pass that
law that bans 14-year-old children from creating a a social media profile and we you know are getting a lot of feedback which is positive saying great because this is this is really a a positive shift happening in the social media world to limit our children from being on it but children will still find a loophole so soon you could find a stranger in your home or in your child's phone just from them being on social media also I think this blogger was also warning parents who may have their chil
dren as content creators and they're showing their children and I don't want to say exploiting but you know I mean they they have their children doing little skits and doing different things and talking about products and so he's saying don't do that because that makes your child a Target you can find an obsessed person who will travel from one end of the country to the other and we've seen to try and meet a child we've seen that too and so I I cringe every time I see people kind of putting thei
r kids out there just to promote a new kids park or a new kid you know uh activity in town I cringe because I know what other people on the other side of the screen are doing and the reason why that blogger started that page to see what would develop is because he was standing behind someone in line a strange adult man that was staring at kids profiles on in public on social media so that's just going through his phone on it yeah just looking at it on his phone like he was swiping on Tinder wow
wow incredible now for those parents and obviously it's going to be a tough decision especially if those content creator parents out there who may have their children actively involved if those parents are making a lot of money and then they have to decide what comes first my child's safety or in their minds their child's future with this money correct correct I mean you just have to be extra protective and decide where you're going to draw the line and and what you're going to post about your c
hildren and not I think you know if you're posting family photos or Easter photos you might feel like oh there's no harm in doing that that but you just don't know what sios are out there on the other side of the screen being drawn to that absolutely as innocent as possible yeah you've got to watch out you've got to look out for your kid
