here on the blue couches with Sarah Allen she's the committee chair of the eclipse events happening over at Mercy Hurst University Sarah welcome to First it for thank you I love how you guys are calling this Eclipse within our gates those big beautiful Gates that welcome you on to campus they are they are we are opening the gates on the day of the eclipse and really want our community to come and celebrate with us on you've got so many great things and it starts Friday the Friday before you're r
eally taking advantage of of it being on a Monday the weekend you've got all kinds of things uh planned go ahead and give us a few of the highlights absolutely we start Friday with a lecture at 6 o' we'll follow that with an art show our art show actually starts April 1st and will be through the month of April so we have this amazing artist who has done all types of photography of space and he will be on exhibit in um our zern Hall so please you can check him out anytime there are not hours for
that event so that's really great um and then we get to Saturday we're having a panel of our scientists um on hand doing a Q&A and a little bit of an informational session on all about the eclipse the history of eclipse what what it means to have an eclipse um Nick Lang is one of our geology professors at Mercers he is currently working with nasau so that's how this all came about he's currently on loan and he is excited to be giving back to Mercers in this really unique yeah you have so much br
ain power there on campus you know why not educate not only your students but also the community uh are all of these events open to the community they are every event is open to our community you can find a full list both on our website um and on the visit Eerie site we've listed in both places so that really communities welcome onto our campus to enjoy these festivities and it is such a beautiful campus that you're inviting folks on for the eclipse day April 8th uh to get a view of it absolutel
y at 1:00 we will have Eclipse within our gates we will open up our Saxon Stadium our football field to lots of lawn games and activities crafts for kids um just a real Community Building event you know we've been trapped in our homes post Co during Co for so long we're open we want we want us to be able to all get together a great opportunity too for all the visitors coming to our area to explore Mercy Hearst perhaps they've got kids or grandkids that are thinking about school it's just a great
opportunity to share what you have on campus there absolutely we have our bookstore will be open our dining Halls will be open so people can come and enjoy everything most of yourselves off have you heard from like Alum that plan on coming back for this oh yes our Alum have their own alumni Hill they have their own spot so they are doing a completely separate event just for our alumni who want to take part in this once in a lifetime experience and no class for students that day right no classes
alternative assignments they will be at lectures but not at class and have you been planning this for about a year now yes we started last spring when we heard that this was going to happen uh and we really kickstarted in September really GA gathering ideas and event information and we are ready we were ready to go March 1 yeah 20 days till that total solar eclipse here in Erie Sarah thanks so much for being with us and again they're opening up those gates at Mercy Hurst as they plan to celebra
