Special education schools looking to attract, retain teachers amid growing demand

Manpower challenges continue to weigh on Singapore's special education sector. But with more schools opening up in the next few years, the pressure is not just on retaining teachers in the field, but also to attract and train new ones. The education ministry plans to open three more special education schools within six years, and it projects that the fraternity will need another 350 teachers by then. Nikhil Khattar reports.

The US public schools offer a starting salary of $60k annually in California then if you have experience and have post grad units you might get paid of $100k. As I look at the salary scale in Singapore, the SPED teachers there are paid quite low and the standard of living is quite high. Please increase your job offer so you can attract good SPED teachers in your country. Thanks!

Many Singaporeans have suffered decades of detention without trial in the past. An independent president will not simply sign detention orders without investigation.

Those teachers are foreign workers working here.

As a candidate in the general election 2011, I hate to think that people who cast invalid votes believed that I was a clown or did not possess qualities to represent them.

Every person who stands as a candidate against the PAP possesses tremendous courage. So many have been bankrupted by PAP leaders. Toh Soh Lung
