t this time i'd like to invite samir mccarthy to come forward and present this award to mary gephardt [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the reverend gerald f leahy s j prize is awarded in memory of gerald f lahey sj who was dean of campaign college from 1963 to 1969 and has given to the year's most outstanding college camping college graduate as current dean i am pleased to present this award to kendra levine [Applause] [Music] [Applause] please join me in congratulating the candy college graduate c
lass of spring 2022 [Music] you [Music] as you think [Music] well good morning and congratulations to all of you now it's the time to present to you the recipients of the campaign medal it's a medal that is given to usually a single person who has lived a life of service but also highlighting the idea of the ignatian model of building ministry this year we're meeting an exception that award is going to a group of five collectively known as the american center [Music] since 1966. [Music] and her
life of service and spiritual prayerful [Music] [Music] i would like to mention one of her writings a very small chord that i joined in the very little booklet [Music] it says here to be hidden in light to your neighbors on such words that kevin received as a model where out of humidity her old one would serve and in this city regina we have a service center i would like to ask the members of the marion center to stand out please responded [Music] so charlie congratulations uh [Applause] [Music]
[Applause] speech thank you so much just one word comes to my mind immediately [Music] so we gather today to honor and celebrate you with joy each of you will come to this important milestone in your lives congratulations on your success and the hard work of your completed study here at campaign college we the marion center community also come humbly to receive this honor the saint edmond campaign medal on behalf of all who have served and have been served at marion center for the past 56 years
more than 100 members of our madonna house community and many thousands of volunteers and benefactors have provided dedicated and generous service and had distributed prepared the meals and distributed the clothing countless men and women who have come to our doors in need during all these years it is also certainly the poor those who come in need of food and clothing and perhaps especially the need of friendship when you honor with this medal they bring in their own persons christ to our doors
it is our privilege to receive them and to observe them what words of encouragement can we share with you on this occasion we would like to suggest just a few words which guided the life of our founders catherine doherty who began our madonna house community more than 75 years ago are words that god placed in her heart and these words continue to guide [Music] and breathe new life with our hearts each day for certain you will do great things world transforming things life-giving things if you a
lso can embrace these words and seek to live by them these are the words do little things exceedingly well for love of many our lives are transformed when we realize that everything we do every day makes a difference when it is done with love everything from taking out the garbage dealing with potatoes for supper [Music] attentive to an unexpected phone call persevering to the last page of your last exam [Music] being patient with each other in a little trials of life all these things when they'
re done intentionally with love become life-giving for ourselves and a source of life of others our lives at the marion center are very simple and the work we do repetitive and arduous at times but love transforms them into something very special bright on the inside of the back door of the building of the marion center one of our volunteers making a sign which we've had there for many years it says christ is at the door it reminds us especially when we're tired the end of a long day who we are
about to reap when we open that door christ himself said what we do to the least person we do to him when we remember this then responding to yet another request for anything food clothing a transit ticket in our long winter another request for another pair of winter gloves these moments become a moment of excitement we have not done anything new but something new has happened we have encountered a person we've encountered christ years ago when one of our patrons who was having a very hard day i
n our dining room by account i confronted him and i said i challenged him i said no you are a child of god almost 10 years later after having not seen this person in all those years i encountered it very early in the morning at our back door from the distance he shouted out to me i know who you are you called me a child of god it was 6 30 in the morning i stood there humble amazed and i was reminded that our little gestures our little words of kindness make a difference even when we never hear e
ach of you is on the concept of a bright computer the world needs your talents your imagination your energy your unique personalities but most especially the lord the world needs your loving attention to each task that is asked of you it needs your living faith in the living god it needs your readiness to serve christ in every person comes into your own heart thank you arising for this challenge [Applause] uh [Music] [Music] the ceremony is coming to an end but not our church and there is that y
