WATE 6 On Your Side

spring is here so why not enrich it with your mind and join me today to share some of their incredible spring events is the one and only Matt from MC good morning how are you good morning I'm fantastic on this Monday how was your weekend fantastic very relaxing aside from the conopy of food and family and friends that get together for Easter but um I'm a little swollen and uh still full from The Experience so fully satisfied and satiated so all good I love it well moving end April you guys have
some incredible events as always but en lightness and it's also 75th birthday yes we just 70 we just celebrated 75 years which is quite an accomplishment there are museums in other parts of the country and the world that are hundreds of years old but for our unique little city in Oak Ridge 75 years is pretty phenomenal and that was also the time when the city of oakd opened its gates from the Manhattan Project so we celebrated not only the opening of the city but 75 years young and still plannin
g for the next 75 years going forward it's a lot of fun great events that's incredible and that's so it's so amazing the history of the city and the town itself I mean and you can check it all out there with you guys but you guys have a really cool event coming up um with drones which is actually yes so we are inviting a gentleman by the name of Javier Diaz who is a world leader in drone technology he actually invented a drone that's all also a submarine and his team is working with a group of N
avy SEALs this weekend to train them so this is an active um military and research program that he has developed this drone for so we're teaming Javier with a group of seventh graders in Oak Ridge that build and manufacture their own drones and we're talking about the gap between the implementation of new technology in the workplace and and what some school systems are doing to lift their students into a place where they have an understanding of well if you're a kid and you've moved from video g
ames to drones a lot of parents might go uh I don't know what you're doing this for Javier Dias it is a big jump it's a huge jump Javier Diaz is the extension of that experience really and so when you get a kid who's on this gaming console who's doing this stuff that's the same type of controller that you'll use to fly a drone in a professional organization professional professional circumstance wow okay we've got drones that um fly over volcanoes fly over industrial sites and do research not to
mention that they can be super cool for racing and lots of fun stuff um but we're connecting those two worlds and that's a free event at the Museum on Wednesday it's a lot of fun it's at 3:00 you can check out amc.org for more information but again we're doing this connection point point from high-end technology to the school systems and how school systems are evolving to fit their students needs because frankly the days of sitting in a classroom like this and looking and reading and doing all
this stuff nobody wants to do that anymore it's it's a little oldfashioned it still has its place and there's a lot of things that require that sort of diligent study but there's an evolution in the classroom and we want to showcase that and invite the public out to see that I love that and uh just a small note actually for parents at home too so I worked on a medical TV show before this in California with nextstar and U I did a story on a um so to find long nodules yeah and they used the um Nin
tendo controller to bring this camera down here so yeah this is huge huge for the future for your kiddos as well absolutely and speaking of the future how can people support you guys moving forward you have an exciting Gayla that will definitely help with yes April 20th we have a fantastic Gayla and and Oakridge is famous for really stuffy old-fashioned boring Galas we are it's simply the truth we are wiping the state the Slate clean you can dress up I will probably wear a tie and tuck in a shir
t which is really unheard of other than weddings and funerals for me but this Gayla we're having it at the Museum we are inviting everybody who wants to come you can get tickets at the website that I'd mentioned a few moments ago right and we are again putting students in the Gayla experience with drones with robots with technology and all of this great interactive stuff so when you come to the museum for this Gayla you will be able to experience this high-end technology all right well I cannot
wait to join you later on in the show we're going to get into what is on this table we got stuff to do it's Eclipse time you guys it's ECP time
