Japanese dodgeball is more like volleyball; there's just one ball, the team with possession is on offense, and they keep possession so long as they keep hitting opponents or don't throw the ball out of bounds. If you catch the ball, you just gain possession; the thrower isn't out. The other interesting thing about Japanese rules is that when you're out, you're actually still playing the game. All the players who are out stand in the outfield around the opposite team's side of the court, and they can pass the ball and throw it at players too; if you hit an opponent while you're out, you get to go back to your own team's infield. That's why there' so many kids on Billy's half of the court by the end of the game; the ones standing out of bounds are Anya's own teammates, including Damian and Becky.
