The St. Petersburg Documentary Film Studio (now the Lendok Open Film Studio) is one of the largest documentary film studios in Russia, founded in 1932 as the Leningrad Newsreel Studio. During the Patriotic War, the forces of the employees who remained in the besieged city created a full-length film - “Leningrad in the Struggle” (1942). In the 1980s, the studio annually produced 40 documentaries and popular science films, 9-10 film magazines, stories for News of the Day, and up to 50 titles of various types of film advertising. Films by Leningrad documentaries have repeatedly won at Soviet and international film festivals. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the studio, like the entire Russian film industry, found itself in crisis. But the studio continued to work - since 2001, more than 100 documentaries have been produced.
