So I always tell my students to try to get a job or an internship after completing their course so that you can learn more about the music business and network. Because the things you learn by working in a studio, be it how to run a studio, how to handle clients, no course or book can teach you that. But the main question of students is how to apply for an internship, how to apply for a job. That's why today I'm going to share a whole process on how to approach studios, how to negotiate with the
m and most importantly, how to get ready for a job or an internship. So the first stage is preparation. Basically, you have to work on your skill set. You don't have to see how many things I know little by little. Rather, you have to focus on what your USP is. Because knowing everything little by little is fine. But ultimately, if a studio engineer wants to hire you, then he looks at whether you can make his job easy, whether he has a job that he can delegate and you can take responsibility for
it. So for that, I will tell you 3 ways. The first way is where you don't need any budget. The second way is where you can spend a little money. And the third way is where you have a lot of capital. You can invest a large amount to increase your skill set. So first of all, if we talk about free sources, then right now there is no source bigger than YouTube for learning. I myself have learned a lot of things from there including video editing. But if you want to learn any core concept from YouTub
e, make sure you follow a series. Many free blogs and PDFs are also available for you to gain additional knowledge as well. Now if you have a small budget, you can invest a little amount in your education, then I would strongly suggest that you can take pre-recorded courses. Here I am not promoting my courses, but any educators, or YouTube channel you follow, you can purchase their courses as well. and gain a lot of knowledge in less time. I myself have taken a lot of subscriptions in my life in
my initial days. I have gained knowledge and experience from a lot of different places, which I share with you. And the third option is if you have a big budget and you want to invest in your knowledge, then you can take any diploma course. Or you can even take long-term courses of 2-3 years. Just make sure one thing, whichever institute you want to enroll in, talk to their alumni first. Discuss with the students who have completed their course from there, so that you can get a good idea of wha
t is being taught there, how helpful it is, and how much they assist you in getting jobs and internships. And one more very important thing that you have to keep in mind, that whichever studio exposure you get there, whichever practical knowledge you gain there, you have to realize that as soon as your course is completed, you will come back to your home. And if you work for 3-4 months without those gears, if you are not able to use those gears, then the experience you gained there, will start f
ading out gradually. If you ask me personally, then I just feel that the benefit of doing a proper course is, that not only do you get all the things in the structure, but you also get a mentor. And even when your course is completed, you can ask them your questions, you can ask them your doubts. because you can't achieve mastery in any subject, be it 3 months or 3 years. You can encounter scenarios after completing the course where you need guidance, and you don't have many friends. So there yo
ur mentor and your teachers are very helpful. Now after gaining knowledge, and improving your skillset, the second stage is simply, how to apply in any studio for an internship, or for a full-time job. So the first thing you have to do is, with the help of Google, search studios near you, working at a good level, start contacting them. Now there are two options for contacting. Either you can contact them through mail, or you can call them. So whichever studio you get direct contacts, I would sug
gest you call them directly. First of all, give your quick introduction, what do you do, how long have you been doing music? Basically, give a brief about yourself, and then ask them, do they have any vacancy. Because if you directly ask them, whether they have any full-time jobs available? many studio owners will decline. When you give an introduction about yourself, and your work, they will listen, And who knows, the skill set that they require, they might get it from you. After that, in case
any studio engineer calls you for a meeting, calls you for a discussion, and after the discussion, they tell you, to send them your resume and work links. So in that case, email comes in handy. I'll share my personal experience here, since I get daily queries about internships and full-time jobs. So there I divide it into two parts. The first part where I see, that they have written a long an email with the help of chatGPT, but didn't attach work links. Whereas the other type of people, they kee
p their emails a little personalized, they tell about themselves, and at the same time, they also attach their work links along with their resume. So how to organize a work profile? Make a folder on Google Drive, and inside that, separate covers, separate original songs, jingles, background score, or whatever you have done in the audio-related field, organize them well, and distribute them in folders. And in fact, if you want to add YouTube links or Spotify links to some songs, then you can make
a link tree of that, so that the studio engineer from there, can redirect to the original songs, and he can see your credits. And now if I talk about resume, then it is very easy to make a resume. You will get so many free templates online, you can fill your information in any template and download it. Because eventually, the main goal of a resume is to tell how much experience you have gained in the past, where you have learned from, what your qualifications, and at the same time, what is your
skill set. There is just one big mistake, which I have seen many people doing, so stay away from that. Whenever you discuss with the studio engineer, and he asks you, why do you want to do this internship, why do you want this job? So I have seen that many people say in this reply, that they want to gain experience, they want to gain more knowledge, they want exposure. And in fact, some of my students have also shared their personal experience, where they said this thing after the meeting, and
the studio engineer, directly asked them that you give us this much money, and we will train you, and you can work with us. Always remember, whenever you contact any studio, whenever you have any discussion with their engineer, with their manager, then always highlight this thing, that what can you give them? Because even if, if you get a job as an arranger, or even if you get a job as a recording engineer, then you will not only record there, you will also see other things, with which your othe
r aspects, will start growing on their own, and in general, you will keep gaining experience Now let's assume, that your discussion is over, and you got an offer from the studio, so now the main thing comes, which is negotiation, and cost calculation. So say for example, you got an internship offer from a studio, of Rupess10,000 rupees, so how will you negotiate? First of all, you have to see your travel expenses, your food expense, and your stay expense. And if your studio is in your hometown,
then your stay expense will not be required there, because you will eventually go back to your home. So say, for example, your travel cost, is around 5,000 rupees. Along with that, your food expense, may be you have gone to the studio, or you are staying a little late, so you ordered from Zomato Swiggy, so you have to calculate the cost of that too, and if we assume a rough approximation, it comes to Rupees 7,000-8,000 rupees. So in case if you accept an internship of 10,000 rupees, then you wil
l only have 2,000 rupees in your pocket. So how to tackle that thing? This basic cost of your travel, you have to add the cost of that studio as well. In simple words, you have to ask the studio engineer, how much footfall is there, how many recording sessions are there, how much is their project intake? So in a way, you have to show them, that you are having this conversation with them so that you get to know, how much workload will be there, and how much time you have to invest there. So with
that, you will get an idea, of how much is the earning of that studio, plus how many hours are going to go to your studio. Because if the studio is running, if the studio is very busy, then you may have to sit over time, so you can count those things in this. Because if I tell you my story, when I used to do an internship in the studio, then I used to have a shift for 8 hours, from 10 am to 6 pm And for that, I used to take lunch from home. But most of the days, I used to come back home at 10-11
pm, and I used to have dinner, and I used to order from outside. So the reason for that was not just, that there were a lot of workload in the studio, but sometimes I used to stay there, as per my wish. I used to see my seniors, how they work, how they deal with clients, basically how they manage the studio. Because I have learnt a lot, by observing them. So now when your basic cost is ready, say for example Rs.25,000, then you have to minus the studio's learnings from that. Basically, what wil
l you learn from that studio, how much experience will you gain, on which gears you are going to work, because it will take you a lot of years to make that setup at home. And not just that, how much knowledge and networking you are going to do there, so you have to lessen all those costs. So you will get a round figure, around Rs.15,000, Rs.18,000 or Rs.20,000, depending upon what negotiation you have, what deal you have. The rest is definitely their call, in how much they close the deal. For mo
re clarity, I have invited some of my students as well to explain this. I also asked some of my students, to share their experiences, that how they started with an internship and a job, and today they are such successful freelancers. So listen to them once. I found my first client from a Whats app group form where I grew more and started working So from there my network grew, and gradually my client base grew. I thought of applying for a job or internship in a studio, so hopefully I got a place
for an internship at a reputed firm. When I started production, my learning was from YouTube only, it was very hard to get the clients. What I did at that time was, I started directly messaging people, some of them responded, and I got working with them. So I used to send 2-3 songs to sir for feedback, which cleared my basics, After that, I said to sir, can i assist you? He said, why not, you are doing very well. After the course completion, financially I was not strong enough, to invest in basi
c gears. So I approached Vasudev sir, and thankfully I got my first job as his assistant. When I just started mixing, I used to keep messaging some new producers, and I used to ask them that, I'll do a free mix for you, and if you like it, then you can keep the mix and we can work. I remember exactly after 2 months when i completed my course, I got a message from Vasudev Hey Pranjal, I have a project for you. And that is how it all started, and currently, I work with him. I was constantly collab
orating with countless artists regularly and that actually helped me expand the horizons of my creativity really wide. Join more WhatsApp groups and communities. This will help you stay in the middle of people and your network will grow. Vasudev sir also has some pre-recorded courses where WhatsApp groups are made. I have met a lot of my clients from there as well. Also, you have to keep yourself updated every day, Not every week, every month, or every year. You have to keep yourself updated eve
ry day. Also, during the job, I did a lot of collaborations with my batchmates, worked with podcast companies, and made BGM music for them. Day by day, I started getting paid work. If you have a mentor and you keep practicing, you will never know how far you will go. And to be honest, it worked as a miracle for me. Each and every aspect from basics to fundamentals was discussed with one-on-one interaction. and the best part was the examples that were given. It really was the best decision made b
y me. Professional courses have helped me a lot. Especially, I did an AEMP course Mix with Vasudev Academy. It was a 3-month course that took me literally 3years ahead. First, professional courses save your time. You get a perspective on how to approach music that can take a lot of time to make by yourself. Second, you get a lot of good feedback at the right place at the right time. And your weaker areas, especially, are made stronger. When I did a course with Vasudev sir, my fundamentals became
very clear. The mix that I used to get stuck in earlier became very clear. The community is also very strong in our Raaight army. And we always update each other that this plugin came, that plugin came. I got to learn a lot in the course. Before the course, I was making music, and mixing. But it was like I was working on a very instinctive basis. So sometimes I got results, sometimes I didn't. But in this course, I understood that if I am applying any effect, any plugin, anything, then when do
I have to apply it, how do I have to apply it, why do I have to apply it, where not to apply it At some point in your life, you need a GURU, who can help you come out of your imaginary world. So yeah, this professional course is not like a course. It's like you are in a gurukul. After the course, being added to the alumni group was a real learning experience for me. Where everyone keeps solving each other's queries, do collaborations, and share tips and tricks. Many times, if someone needs a mus
ician for their song, they get paid to work from there. I learned so much in 2023, I have made a lot of music, and I have worked for a lot of people. Now my target for 2024 is to release all the music that I have made, all the originals that I have made. Currently, I have a couple of goals. Long-term, to be a celebrated film composer, And in the short term, or currently on a higher priority, My goal is definitely a Grammy for our country, for me also. So in the long term, my plan is to make good
music and spread my music to more people. There is no formula to make a hit song, but you can make good songs. If you observe some songs, pay attention to some things, arrangements etc. Then you can make good songs. So basically, my main goal is to become an individual artist. Everyone wants to be in this field. The artist is in its own lane and different. So that the audience can see you and can relate and vibe to your song. My goal is to set up and convert into a proper working studio. Curren
tly, I am running a firm And we are working really hard to launch it as a production house. In which we will work with those new talents who are not so strong financially. And are not able to showcase their work on a professional level. Innovation is the key to stay relevant for a longer period of time in any industry. I think it's quite simple. Whatever you may give, always find a way to come back around. In the end, all you have to realize is that No one will help you without their profit. And
it's good that I can bring all this content for you guys. I can do so many giveaways on this channel. It's all because of how all this supports me financially. And ultimately, so much love which you guys give in every video. I just want to say this. Work hard. Work with a pure heart. And be the one who lifts others, not the one who brings them down. Because ultimately, the person who lifts someone, He is always above them. If you have any doubts related to this video If you have any questions,
then comment below. I will definitely try to answer it. And in case you guys want to know about my courses, I will provide all their details in the description below.
