the bomb nickname little boy was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th 1,945 and the whole world was never the same again this event put an end to the second world war and ended the lives of hundreds of thousands of people however there are people who defend this fact they say it was the right thing to do otherwise the war would have continued and many more people would have suffered does the end justify the means why did they choose Hiroshima and Nagasaki and why did they say that Oppenheimer was
the father of the most destructive weapon ever used on human beings well to give you a little context it's World War II Nazi Germany is a deadly race against the United States to see who can create the greatest weapon of Destruction yet the atomic bomb the race for this weapon was fought between two people on the one hand Verner Heisenberg and on the other hand Robert Oppenheimer the former is an extremely brilliant German theoretical physicist the problem is that if he succeeds the atomic bomb
will fall into the hands of the Nazi party and Hitler will be unstoppable and Oppenheimer another theoretical physicist who is a university professor in the United States is a very ambitious man with a strong character who loves to smoke they both discover that atomic splitting is possible and therefore in theory so are nuclear weapons so both sides set to work however Germany takes the advantage as Heisenberg discovers fion first and the Nazi party invests millions in the development of this ne
w bomb Heisenberg wastes no time and begins to develop the necessary experiments to see if it is possible to create this new weapon despite this the United States initially does not give it much importance in fact everything indicates that it is going to lose this race until one man comes along to change the course of history his name is Albert Einstein the most famous physicist of all time he was the man who warned President Roosevelt of Hitler's plans but how did Einstein know of Germany's pla
ns well a colleague named Leo sard learned from an article published by the Germans that they had achieved nuclear fion neither Einstein nor Leo were sure they would use it to make a bomb but deep down they were certain so Einstein himself drafted a letter to President Roosevelt to warn him of the immense danger the world was in the president understood and took action this is how together with General Leslie Groves he sets in motion one of the most ambitious projects the world has ever seen the
Manhattan Project however for this project to get off off the ground one thing is needed a man to lead the scientific part of the entire Mission the project needs someone intelligent astute and capable of coordinating a large number of people the name of the right guy is Robert Oppenheimer Groves goes to look for him at the University to offer him the Reigns of the project Oppenheimer is an extremely ambitious man and yearns to make his mark on the world he is the right man as he knows exactly
what needs to be done so despite never having LED anything bigger than seminars or classrooms he agrees and decides to take on the mission he needs a place far from civilization and with plenty of space so Oppenheimer convinces Groves to go to Los Alamos New Mexico this place has ideal conditions but also sentimental value for Oppenheimer because he spent time there as a young man he summons the most brilliant scientists and minds of the time along with their families so that they can be close b
y the project grows at an impressive rate employing more than 130,000 people and costing almost $2 billion on the other hand the Nazis begin to have problems as Heisenberg's laboratory suffers a couple of accidents and Germany begins to have problems on its warfronts however a tragic event accelerates the US project none other than the attack on Pearl Harbor Japan was trying to expand into the Pacific however the American troops were getting in the way of its expansion process so Japan decided t
o take matters into its own hands and make a surprise attack in an attempt to destroy this American base it was a terrible day for the United States more than 3,500 men were killed or wounded not to mention all the planes and ships lost Japan hoped that the United States would not retaliate however the US government declared war on them and the consequences for Japan were far worse than they had ever imagined despite the difficulties of the Nazi army the Germans together with Heisenberg were als
o making great strides and they were getting closer and closer to the goal of achieving nuclear weapons however in May 1,945 the Germans surrendered in Europe and Heisenberg and the other scientists involved in the project were captured there was no longer a need to use the bomb against Germany and the Nazi army was no longer a threat however Japan still would not surrender so the goal changed the United States was determined to create the weapon that would end the war and so just 3 years after
the official creation of the Manhattan Project the first nuclear bomb in history is completed and ready for testing finally comes the day of Truth the first test of a nuclear bomb ever made in history with this they will know if all the effort was worth it Oppenheimer who was a lover of poetry decided to name this test Trinity test after a poem that talks about destruction as a way of creation a giant ball made of steel climbs a tower of about 30 m to take the final test everyone is nervous no o
ne is 100% sure it will work some scientists are afraid that the power will be so powerful that it could set the atmosphere on fire or that the radiation will affect their skin so some individuals choose to wear sunscreen cameras begin to record this iconic moment and the countdown begins despite being 10 km from Ground Zero many scientists and military personnel wear protective eyewear as the light emitted can be so intense that they can be temporarily blinded finally on the 9th of July 1945 at
half 5 in the morning the whole world changed forever first a strong flash followed by a powerful Heat Wave ending with the shock wave it completely vaporizes the steel Tower and turns sand into glass the explosion is a success Oppenheimer and general Groves succeed upon seeing the explosion Oppenheimer thought of a phrase he read from a sac Hindu text which he revealed in an interview years later now I have become death and the destroyer of worlds as a curious fact unfortunately Oppenheimer wo
uld end up dying in 1967 at the age of 61 from throat cancer due to his tobacco consumption back to the story with everything proven they built the little boy bomb which is about to become the first atomic bomb to be used against other human beings it leaves San Francisco aboard the USS Indianapolis it is transported for 10 days to an island called tinian a very strategic location because the island is only a 6-hour flight to Japan among them is the man who is about to drop the first atomic bomb
in history the pilot of the plane General Paul tibits everything was discussed in a very discreet Manner and even if you knew it was always best not to ask questions the main target Hiroshima but more specifically this bridge in the shape of a tea one night before they gather the whole team to explain the mission they can drop it on three targets but the main one is Hiroshima they then tell them that this is the most destructive weapon ever created when it explodes the ashes and smoke will crea
te a mushroom cloud followed by a strong light brighter than the sun itself and finally they are told that using this weapon will end the war at least 6 months ahead of schedule saving a great deal of pain and suffering however this is Far From Reality before leaving Paul tibet's names the plane after his mother Inola gay they mount the bomb on the plane give them a final explanation and cyanide pills just in case they fall into Japanese hands that early morning is different as before boarding t
here were many cameras photographing the moment hardly anyone in the crew knows it but this group is about to change human history forever with everything ready they take off for the mission a reconnaissance plane leaving earlier informs them that the skies are clear and they can proceed to Hiroshima but why this place this decision was made by the targeting committee but not for the reasons you think General Leslie Grove set four criteria for deciding the location each more perverse than the la
st these were one that the site had sentimental value to the Japanese two to have some military objective such as factories concentrations of soldiers or warehouses three to be intact so that the real power of the bomb's destruction could be seen and four it had to be large enough to appreciate the weapon's capability however the final decision had nothing to do with that when the committee met at the Pentagon it agreed that it had to fall not on military installations or factories but on the He
art of the City on an intact urban area to demonstrate its war power it didn't matter if it hit ammunition factories or troops otherwise they would have chosen other cities with more arsenals or weapons Depot but no the real Target of the attack was the city itself the real Target of the attack was the city itself the real Target was the psychological damage of an entire nation the committee did not even try to warn or threaten the Japanese government by showing them the New Mexico test after 6
hours of flight the an NOA gay arrives at the Target and the atomic bomb is dropped on the city records indicate that it spent approximately 45 seconds in the air before exploding the total Destruction radius was 1.6 km around causing fires and people nearby to be literally melted it is extremely shocking that its Shadows can still be seen on the floor and walls of some parts of the city it is believed that some 100,000 people died on the day of the explosion half an hour later dust and Ash rain
ed down with highly radioactive particles causing even more deaths and radiation related illnesses despite such devastating destruction Japan did not give up this was mainly due to their government's ignorance of the destructive magnitude of nuclear power they do not understand the capability that the US now had in its hands so the US government decides to strike another big blow with the second nuclear bomb this one was called fat man it was a little more powerful than little boy but this time
it was dropped on the city of Nagasaki killing more than 80,000 people and reducing the city to Rubble dust and Ashes this second blow was enough for Emperor hiroo to announce Japan's surrender on August 15 1,945 the day the surrender was signed was a day of Jubilation for the war was finally over on September 2 1,945 a ceremony is held on the deck of the USS Missouri in Tokyo bay the ship is filled with hundreds of sailors reporters cameramen and Senior military commanders representatives of Al
lied Nations and the Supreme Allied Commander general Douglas MacArthur at 9:00 in the morning the Japanese Representatives approach the ship quietly bored and the ceremony begins MacArthur says it is my sincere hope and the hope of all mankind that a better world will emerge from this solemn occasion after the blood and Carnage of the Past after this the Japanese foreign minister signs the surrender treaty followed by General MacArthur whose hands tremble according to ey Witnesses bringing an e
nd to the worst war in human history and as if it were a planned act at that moment the sun rises as the Japanese Retreat it is no coincidence that the surrender takes place aboard the Missouri the ship is named after the home state of the US president at the time Harry Truman a few weeks after the surrender the ship returns to New York where it is greeted by thousands of people including the president he visits the site where the war ends sits at the surrender table to sign the visitor's book a
nd describes it as the happiest day of his life for the hundreds of victims however it was not for many it meant a giant change in their lives in fact for all of humanity it was not the world was never the same again after discovering the destructive power of atomic bombs humans became the first species capable of ending their own existence altering the balance of power generating fear and nuclear paranoia now on the question did dropping the two bombs on Japan save lives and resources some peop
le argue that it did they argue that the use of the at IC bombs hastened Japan's surrender and prevented a costly and protracted Invasion that would have caused more deaths not to mention that it involved gigantic advances in the creation of nuclear power the most efficient energy of all however others argued that there were more options such as giving them a warning or at least not launching it in a place with so many civilians some people claim that ironically the creation of the nuclear bomb
brought more peace to the world this is due to a phenomenon called mutually assured destruction this is based on the idea that nuclear weapons are so devastating that neither side would dare to start a war for fear of nuclear retaliation thus nuclear weapons create a kind of balance of Terror but what do you think was the creation and use of this weapon a positive thing for mankind or did it only change the world for the worse in my opinion I believe that this act was not justified at all the wa
r was already over and Japan did not have enough resources to sustain a war I rather believe that this act was really because the United States wanted to demonstrate its power to the world it wanted others to be afraid of it it seems to me that they could have chosen many other Alternatives before going to this extreme they could have given warnings they could have attacked military installations already without the support of the Nazis or the axis Nations Japan's surrender was imminent I believ
e it was a completely makavelian act the winners always write history and over the years we have hidden the truth under the guise that this act was extremely important to bring peace to the war but for me the truth is that it was not to me this act demonstrates a shadow on the winners who at the cost of the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and at the cost of causing permanent trauma to a nation simply wanted to demonstrate their power if you made it this far I thank you from the bottom o
