I’m tempted to just start off with a huge disclaimer but I’m going to just say. Hey, you don’t need to be here you know? Like you can leave if you don’t want to hear any of this. This is a topic I’m very passionate about this and as much as I will try to hold myself back, I will be saying things that you will definitely not like to hear if you’re a blink. I’ve been putting off this video for a while because I know no matter how big of a disclaimer I make, some people are just not going to unders
tand. So, This is not about blackpink members personally but the issue I have with their branding. This does not imply that just because I believe their feminist label is flawed that the members themselves are misogynistic. That is a huge leap and an inaccurate one. Of course, it’s commendable that asian female artists have made themselves notable in an industry that holds women of colour back, however, it is their branding that I am focusing on. I will just be criticizing some of the career mov
es blackpink, as a brand has made. So if you’re one of those fans who can’t handle real criticism, no problem, I’m giving you all permission to leave. Now, hopefully, my comments won’t be an absolute sh*t show. Blackpink has always been labelled a girl power group. Starting from 2016, when the outdated idea of girl crush being more empowering than cute concepts had begun. I mean girl crush itself is a flawed representation of female empowerment as it almost depicts hyper-femininity or elegant an
d cute concepts as not feminist or strong enough when in reality, true feminism is letting women be women, not asking them to man up or be more soft spoken etc. but just be them. Basically girl crush implies, tough badass girls are stronger but in reality we don’t need to act tough or less feminine to be heard.In this way, the concept that is Blackpink’s bread and butter already goes against this girl power image. People consider Blackpink to the symbol of feminism, they don’t cater to men (or a
tleast Korean men), unlike some other groups, right? But, I think a lot of you are harbouring very misogynistic and outdated ideas of feminism, so I’m going to share why I think a lot of Blackpink’s moves in the industry have established them as the opposite of this girl power brand their fans and label try to sell them as. Starting off with their lyrics. Who writes these songs you may ask, mostly men showing what these women are quite thinking about which makes it problematic. So, tell me how g
irl power it is, to make women, some may say huge symbols of asian women in music sing about, just men, and that too men telling them what to sing. The whole thing is from the perspective of men thinking what a woman would think and then forcing those lyrics upon these women. But even then, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt, it’s completely fine for women to choose to talk about men all they want, and that doesn’t necessarily negate their feminism. That’s quite an outdated thought. But wh
en almost all of your discography is about how you’re the ultimate woman and other girls couldn’t possibly compare, which is why a guy should choose you. That’s the part that makes it problematic. But Just so this video isn’t an hour long, I’ll rapid fire through some weirdly misogynistic lyrics and explain why they go against this female empowerment label of theirs. Starting off with their track Really, All the girls around you have nothing to offer Stop talking to them, cut them off from your
life You will come to me anyway I understand the intention is to say, that hey boy, you should be with me. But demeaning other women around him saying they have nothing to offer, not very feminist if you ask me. Just to double check, yup both the writers of this song are men. Moving on to their rendition of So hot by wonder girls, which as iconic as the song is, already has questionable lyrics. But when we get to blackpink's version, they added their own rap verse where they state. We the only g
ang to run the game in high-heels Doesn’t Seem very feminist to be erasing every other girl group in the game. You are in fact one of , very very many gangs who run the game in high heels and that’s okay, you can stand out without erasing other women and their contributions to the industry. Especially considering some of blackpink’s earlier hits were literally made for another gang with high heels, 2ne1. And while there are no clear credits for the lyricists of this song, the song is again made
by 3 men. There is this lyrics from See you later and this from Kick it. This will make more sense when we come to blinks behavior as well but, This is an especially mean choice on the writer’s part knowing how many female idols their fans have attacked for allegedly copying blackpink for wearing a headband, or dyeing their hair orange or wearing black and white. This lyric basically encourages this kind of behavior. Written by 2 men and 1 woman, okay slight improvement. Nevermind. At first I sa
w typa girl and i was like okay, great. This seems promising but then… Up until then it felt like they were telling the men that women can be in control and you can’t boss them around but apparently that’s just Blackpink, not the other girls. We’re not that type apparently. All these other girls are just inferior forever. So yeah, possibly the worst offender. Let's ignore the quality of the lyrics and notice how many times, they’ve put down other women in their songs, which btw are like 99% of t
he times written by men. ANd by they, i don’t just mean the faces of blackpink, that is the members, but the entire team behind them Because if you haven’t noticed, I am not using any of this to slander the girls and their personal lives or choices, it’s all about their brand. The only songs that come close to being somewhat girl power are the following, For love to hate me, it’s ambiguous because, according to Blinks, it’s about haters but the lyrics seem like they are pointing to an ex? I’m no
t sure. Besides that, the song is still 'me -centric”, Let’s still count it though. You never know is again me-centric, and while it may not be girl power, the lyrics might be some fo my favs of blakcpink just because they are different to their usual tracks, it’s vulnerable and sweet. Not necessarily feminist, but a good message regardles. let’s give credit. This is song is definitely empowering as they talk about how they can make decisions about their own lives and mess around just like men a
nd it’s okay because no one is keeping tally and they can do whatever they want. Okay serve. And I wish their entire discography had more of a tally vibe because even with me being generous songs, the statistics are bad, like real bad. Now, I’m not here to say that another group deserves this title more etc. because that’s not relevant here and I honestly think that the work is more important than the title in this case. I would say Blackpink would better fit labels like heartbreakers, not like
other girls, bad girls, And just to really drive the point home about their lyrics. Here’s a chart of all their songs and the theme of them, when put into statistics, it’s um concerning that this is your girl power group. Let’s see what people have to say about their representation of women. It’s time for articles They’ve pointed out how their lyrics talk about women being independent and not needing a man. I’m not sure how accurate that is - their songs are usually about breaking up with some g
uy, just kidding, i like you again, wait no, we’re toxic, nevermind leave that girl you’re with and come to me, i’m better. And again, speaking about men and being involved in a relationship, however rocky it may be, it does not make one less of a feminist, but it does go against that point about Blackpink promoting female independence and saying they don’t need a man especially considering 90% of their discography needed a man, this man in particular to even exist. I mean this one article strai
ght up mentions balckpink’s leader Irene, yeah aka, red velvet’s irene as an example of balckpink’s feminism which says about as much as you need to know. Honestly, a lot of these articles make the same diluted points saying blackpink prove that women don’t need men, which we’ve established is inaccurate if we go by their lyrics, they also say blackpink prove women can be tough which is again inaccurate because while yes the tough image blackpink have is badass and cool and definitely a great ch
oice for their stages, it doesn’t necessarily translate into feminism and imply that being tough is what makes one a feminist is actually going against the idea of true feminism. by implying that only this one kind of girl, i.e, badass girls are stronger and tougher than you. And somehow weakness is anti-feminist? It basically gives a rise to the idea that all women need to be the same to be considered strong which is wrong. It’s totally fine if Blackpink don’t want to make songs about feminism,
then being a woman doesn’t mean they are forced to do that. They can sing about whatever they want. It’s the fact that regardless of their songs putting down women multiple multiple times, they still somehow get away with marketing themselves as this female empowerment group. The number of times I’ve seen blinks lie online saying Blackpink are these beacons of feminism in a taboo, patriarchal, woman hating country as if they aren’t the same people constantly saying that they’re hot and rich and
other women should stop trying because they can’t compare. That’s the reason I’m making this video because honestly, if Blackpink had the same lyrics but were real and upfront about their label and the same with blinks, then there’s not really a problem. Despite their lyrics putting down women, I would’ve let them be, it’s the nerve of their team and fans almost brainwashing every media source to make it seem like every other Kpop girl groups are all candy, rainbows and boy while Blackpink are
strong female empowering goddesses is ridiculous. Not when there are literally songs by boy groups that are more feminist that blackpink’s entire discography. Not when almost every single line in Blackpink’s discography is written by a man pretending to know what a woman is feeling, how they treat other women as competition for the man’s attention. Trigger Warning: I will be talking about Domestic Abuse being used as an aesthetic. For their song kill this love, Blackpink had a photoshoot with br
uises on their face and people were understandably upset. blinks obviously came to their defence citing other idols who’ve also had fake scars and bruisers for a mvs etc. even le serrafim recently did something similar , but wait, let’s not act purposefully dense and Focus on the context. Blackpink are the only group to do this with a song about toxic love and lyrics like this. The problem was never them wearing fake scars. It’s them using these images to promote their song about toxic relations
hips. In this context, with their lyrics in mind, these images point ti domestic abuse. And for them to pose and use this as promotional material. It’s not only tacky but also demeaning to victims of abuse. And fans who then recreate the look are just as in the wrong. Next, I want to talk about The idol, You are not gonna like this. Before we even get into Jennie’s involvement, let’s discuss why the show is problematic. An article by Rolling Stones magazine spoke to 13 crew members who claimed t
hat the show was originally set to be a feminist look at how the entertainment industry takes advantage of women but after The Weeknd realized that the show was too much about women and not enough about him, and so, there was a huge change. I know you guys can't see me, but I'm rolling my eyes really hard. The female director, Amy Seimetz left and Sam Levinson of Euphoria fame and the weeknd took over and created what one source described to the magazine as “a rape fantasy” that “went from satir
e to the thing it was satirizing.”The crew members also said the show features physically and sexually violent scenes one source compared to “torture porn”. Here are just some reviews the show got after its first screening, and they are terrifyingly bad. And getting to Jennie, She doesn’t even have a good role in it because, according to production members, despite all the buzz the show is making about her being a part of it, her job was to quote sit and look pretty. And while I understand this
is her first show and I’m not expecting them to trust her with a huge role, it’s degrading to use her just for her fame. Knowing only blinks will see the show. Getting back to Blackpink and why it’s harmful to their feminist image. This is what Jennie said about Sam Levinson and the script. And while some blinks like to pretend that this was her opinion on the original script. She talks about Sam Levinson who only entered afterwards and made the show terrible. It’s also around then when a lot of
pop stars like Jennie were casted. So for those saying she liked the original script and idea, she wasn’t even a part of it. And while I do want to believe that Jennie only said it because she got to be on an American show and that is a good opportunity to gain more popularity and network. I wish she would’ve picked her words carefully or rethunk being a part of this production considering the brand her band tries to sell. It feels like Blackpink’s career moves and marketing flip flops on their
stance on feminism and female empowerment based on what will benefit them personally. And this confusion fully translates onto their fans as well. The way blinks are literally boldly lying saying Jennie signed on for the original script. Like did she text you that or? When it clearly states in several articles that it was Sam Levinson, aka the guy who re-wrote and made the show torture porn who even decided to hire popstars including Jennie. And going by blinks’ logic, if Jennie, was cheated in
to being in this show like she’s a child , why would she so happily join interviews and promotions for the tv show. While she is so busy with her world tour, she’s obviously making huge efforts to fly out around the world in the middle of her tour, all to support and promote a show she was supposedly cheated into being a part of. Explain that? You’re telling me her willing to compliment Sam Levinson in every interview and article is all part of her contract? Along with her singing praises about
The Weeknd and being part of this show. It’s all in the contract right? It’s honestly time for blinks to stop babying her, and accept the fact that she is 27 and knowingly made this decision to be a part of this disaster despite its crude message. It’s actually funny to see how many lies blinks are spewing online and how they contradict every single statement Jennie puts out about the show. And let’s do a rapid fire answering of blink’s concerns and rebuttals because clearly user Jennie’s bitch
knows more about feminism, the show, the entertainment industry than actual experts in the industry, huge publications and critics who studied this exact issue for several and made statements about how disgusting this show is. The show is clearly satire, you're just too dumb to understand it. Yes of course, experts in the film and tv industry as well as actual crew members who worked on the show and still denounced it are no one infront of Jennie Stans. Have you ever seen people who worked on a
show, were literally paid to be there and get paid for it’s success boldly reach out, not for clout or money considering it’s anonymous but just because of how disappointed and disgusted they are with the production. Not 1, 2 or 3, 13 crew members. Of course you’re hating on Jennie, the woman in the production and not The Weeknd or Levinson who literally made the show. first of all; kudos to your confidence for pulling out the sexist card considering we’re literally talking about Jennie being in
a show exploring women. And I can assure that Sam Levinson and The Weeknd are being absolutely destroyed online and in articles like they deserve but keep in mind, I’m talking about Jennie because I have a Kpop channel. A lot of The Weeknd’s fans have already expressed how disappointed and disgusted they are because they know how to put their morals before blind stan culture. Also, sam’s past and The Weeknd’s lyrics have already established them as chauvanist pigs. We’re disgusted but not entir
ely too surprised. People are more disappoint with those they expected better from. . Jennie is the one who’s in this sexist production while selling a feminist label on the side. That’s why people are more disappointed with with Troye, Lily and Jennie. We already knew the show runners suck. She has such a small part, why would she read the entire script. What do you mean she said yes to bring on a show without knowing what the script is about. That’s the first and bare minimum. People do that b
efore they audition. And also are you seriously trying to tell me that even after filming her scenes, having the production wrap up, attending screenings, watching it and after the show is released, she still doesn’t know what to show is about and is just blindly promoting it without knowing what it’s about. It’s time for y’all to understand Jennie is grown ass women pushing 30 who was well aware of what she signed onto but lacked the education and critical thinking to understand how disgusting
it is. I am aware my next words are harsh but you need to understand that I’m not exactly ready to be lenient about blatant misogyny and exploitation of women’s struggles in 2023, so excuse me for being angry about it. Jennie clearly only saw this gig as an opportunity for fame in Hollywood and nothing more. And I have praised her for her networking and opportunist approach before but there needs to be more thinking that goes into these decisions. Who’s her manager, they need to make better choi
ces on her behalf. and how this show is literally the exact opposite of it. I will however defend Jennie when it comes to people who criticize her involvement in the show because of the age of her fans because guess what? It’s those fans and their parents’ responsibility to asses what their child is exposed to and Jennie is full grown adult and can join the serious even if it is r-rated. That has never been the issue about this show. It’s the disgusting message about women that the show is attem
pting to spread. And I know regardless of this, many people especially blinks will tune into this show and support the exploitation of women but I really hope the message goes over people’s head because this is the one time it really doesn’t need to stick around. I for one will be protecting my brain cells and watching actual productions. Speaking of brain cells, let’s bring it over to blinks. Keep in mind, this is SOME blinks. Perhaps the biggest preachers of feminism considering they pull out
the quote, you’re hating on women of color card if anyone even dare say they don’t like a song. Let’s see how empowering their actions have been towards women. Also while the rest of this video has been about Blackpink’s brand and it wasn’t really personal. This entire section definitely is. So, if you’re a blink who has acted like this in the past, feel free to take all offense. Just for this to be quick, here’s a compilation I made on TikTok while I was researching for this script. Just some o
f the many many female idols that have been harassed with disgusting comments and hate for doing absolutely nothing. Gatekeeping hair clips, headbands and entire designer brands. And then spewing the most disgusting comments over accessories. Seems to be a little off course for feminism, what do you think It’s almost like feminism is just a decorative badge you’re wearing to point to when it comes to Blackpink but then ignore when it comes to hating on every single other woman in the industry. I
honestly think there hasn’t been a single female group that blinks haven’t hated on in some way or the other. So, it begs the question. Where is the female empowerment, where’s the girl power? Where is the feminism? It’s almost like the mixed messages of blackpink's branding and career moves mirror the actions of their fans who preach feminism only to turn around and tear other women down. The female empowerment label seems almost laughably misplaced. Not that Blackpink members aren't feminists
, like I’ve mentioned several times before, their personal lives could be the entire opposite but that is not my business , I’m concerned with their public image. Where have we seen female empowerment, we’ve only seen Blackpink empowering Blackpink. Now, I haven’t seen all of balckpink’s content. So if there is a time they’ve said something to prove otherwise, please let me know in the comments, I’m ready to hear y’all out. But even with that; I think my video explains how media’s representation
of feminism and praising people for exhibiting the absolute opposite of it is getting tiring. It’s 2023; this cannot be K-pop’s symbol of feminism. And I will be stopping the video right here. Again, if you paid attention, you would know I didn’t speak about the member’s personally and only their career. So, you know, be civil in the comments. And before you comment anything hateful, try to prioritize your morals over blind stan culture because you can continue to be someone’s fan but still dis
approve with some of their actions and choices. My goal here is to showcase what true feminism is about and how tainted it’s definition has become among the Kpop community which is so disappointing to witness. Other than that, please like this video and subscribe to my channel if you appreciated the effort that went into making this video. Because I did spend a lot of time researching for this one because I definitely did not want to get anything wrong. And let me know if you want to see other v
ideos like this and take care!

@Sonyeonstan

DO NOT LEAVE HATE COMMENTS ON BLACKPINK. THIS IS FOR CRITICALLY ANALYZING THEIR IMAGE ONLY!‼️ IN THIS VIDEO I SAY BRANDING WHICH IS WRONG since I do not believe YG has explicitly marketed them as empowering women (though said they’d follow 2ne1’s foot steps when they debuted), I should have said IMAGE, or how even big media like to label them ‘Girl Power’ along with their fans. IMPORANT: flash warning at 16:07 , I usually take those parts out but I somehow missed this one so please be careful. I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again!

@newbunnie1

"I have so much money, i'm such a pretty bitch, i'm better than you" That's the entire Blackpink discography since 2019 or even earlier.

@senu.

saying bp are peak feminism in a industry where gidle exists is actually peak comedy.

@mvwmvw

"i'm not like other girly girls" - lisa

@Dervis128

Back in the 3rd generation, I thought Black Pink was very feminist because they were able to show so many different sides of themselves. Boombaya was loud, bombastic, and unapologetic. Whistle was subdued and effortlessly cool. AITYL was fun, colorful, and youthful without being forced. Stay was emotional and vulnerable. Every single song after that has been "I'm better than you, and let me say it through a metaphor." Now, it just feels like the group is the product of a boardroom full of 40 year old men who think they know what teenage girls like better than girls themselves.

@Steverntonyogers316

The problem is that they would put up questionable things in the name of Feminism and fans would take it all .

@yoonjimin9227

25:39 Not related but Blinks saying that Momo copied Lisa for doing a pole dance is ridiculous especially if you take into account Solar did it way before Lisa. Loved the video and totally agree with your points. Blinks get on my nerve because they love saying how blinks and blackpink are what true feminists are without seeming to know what feminism is. Blinks constantly slut shame and put down other women and preach how boy group stans are misogynistic for simply liking male groups. Thinking about it there really isn't any fandom that gets along with blinks

@nekame

i'm just glad more and more people are realizing how toxic and harmful is to treat feminity as something bad or less empowering than being badass or whatever

@GlitterSkies

I honestly don’t care if they’re feminist or not. I just don’t wanna be called broke when I’m just trying to pay bills and live a good life. Edit: Y’all, I promise it’s not that deep. Blackpink does NOT care about my opinion. I assure you both them and I are sleeping just fine while y’all argue. It’s okay to have an opinion different from yours. Good day ❤️

@lalisaandtzuyubiased5494

You're one of the people who actually criticizes blackpink and call their songs/offensive actions out. Thank you for this

@ilistentoallkindsofmusic

i dont mean to shade, but when jennie talked abt "breaking boundaries" in dua lipa's podcast, im just curious to know what 'boundaries' did she exactly break? is it participating in a show that romanticizes r4pe and normalizes drugs? lmao. jennie and blackpink as a whole has done NOTHING to break any boundaries, yeah im glad she spoke abt how kpop limits idols and also the misogyny in the industry. but please "breaking boundaries"?????? girl you did nothing.

@vikicutdem

I never thought BlackPink is promoted as a "feminist" girl group

@sana5771

Came to watch this video after seeing blinks on twitter be angry at it, kinda funny how you proved their point and how flaky their feminism is when it comes to anyone that isn’t a blackpink member

@v1ndy777

K pop is weird now.Ppl are pulling gender cards everywhere and everything female idols do is empowering. Fans don't care if they go nude in public bcuz fans will say that's the confidence every girl want.I wish these girl groups talk more about girls' problems than flexing money.They should use their power fruitfully for the next generation.

@not_in_the_mood

i’ve personally never viewed bp as an empowering or feminist group because they’ve done and said a lot of things throughout their career that completely contradicts what i would define as true advocates for woman. some examples would be that the majority of their songs are either about not needing a man for anything (despite their entire career being controlled by men) or about flaunting their wealth and being better than others, some of the members are constantly seen hanging out with multiple KNOWN SA abusers, jennie willingly associating herself with a show that idolizes straight up torture p*rn and r*pe of woman, etc. honestly jennie being in that show beyond disgusting and disappointing because how do you as a very popular female influencer and as a WOMAN agree to participate in a show like that?? she should be ashamed of herself. any respect that i had for her and for any other celebrity that had anything to do with that show is gone. but anyways blinks and kpop fans in general need to understand that just because these people are females it doesn’t automatically make them feminist. and stanning girl groups doesn’t automatically make you a feminist either.

@instaz0908

Oh this video nailed every fact. Blackpink fans always preach feminism but there is nothing “feminist” about this group. The lyrics are written by teddy oppar about how rich and pretty they are from other girls, definitely give the “im not like other girls” vibe. Not to mention the members decisions regarding their solo careers have been questionable

@hobiwater860

I think "The Idol" just ruins Jennie's k pop idol image (as if she wasn't already unnecessarily hated on by the k pop community for similar reasons) it's not about the show being R rated, but her promoting it and blinks- well yk 💀. Idk this is just my opinion feel free to correct me!!

@Renisha1

I 100% agree with you. Especially with the end and how blinks blindly hate on female idols because of a similarity. Like for example Itzy getting hate because of similar outfits, when I would argue that Itzy’s music is more feminist than blackpinks. That shows that some blinks really don’t care about feminism, except when it’s in regards to their favs.

@katjaxo9486

Here's my 10 cents. I have been following Blackpink since debut, but I no longer consider myself a fan as of recent years. The problem is not that they are "unfeminist", but that they don't know what they want to be. They're crossing the line into Western music where everything is "girlboss" and "bad b*tch". However, they still need to appeal to their Korean audience, which tends to be more conservative. The twerking, swearing, revealing outfits, and "bad b*tch" theme comes off as cringey because they're sitting RIGHT on the line between both images and it does not work. They are trying to break boundaries while also remaining relatively inoffensive, which comes off as insincere and gimmicky.

@wmmap9930

Finally someone spoke about it! 😭 It's more like girls against girls in the lyrics. It doesn't sound like its for the fans to feel good after listening but rather the girls flexing😭. I love them but the lyrics suck💀.
