- Lemme guess, those are case numbers from every rape that's happened in the county? - State. - Within the last three years? - Five. - Bitch, you are on your game. (solemn music) - Unbelievable is a story about a rape investigation gone horribly wrong and then a rape investigation gone brilliantly right. - In Marie's case, she got interviewed several times and I think it was almost like she was being attacked over and over again. - So basically, you were assaulted twice. Once by your attacker, t
hen again by the police. - Yeah, I guess. - I am so sorry, Marie. - It's not your fault. - It's brave of you to revisit it, that's not easy. Thank you for trusting me. - She just moved into her place like a couple of months before, she wakes up in the middle of the night with this weight on her back, it's a man on top of her, pins her arms, tells her he's got a gun, he's gonna use it if she gives him any trouble. - When was this? - 22nd, about a month ago. He proceeds to rape her for three hours
on and off. I mean. - Same thing with my victim. Stopping and starting for four hours. - Huh. (solemn music) - We felt a great deal of responsibility in telling this story. One case where there was a real miscarriage of justice and one case where two cops, who happened to be women, got it right and ultimately, their good work changes the life of Marie.

@zara-uu1ux

can’t imagine how horrible those 3 years truly were for marie

@nataliebarnes7410

$150,000 is truly not enough...I can't believe the US is so disastrously bad at prosecuting their police officers and holding them accountable.

@eyesofthebeast

Basically she was the first victim, and if the investigation went correctly the first time the other rapes three years later wouldn’t have happened

@DreDre2376

The actors in this where just PHENOMENAL 👏👏👏

@KimSearch865

It was not a coincidence that two female officers solved this case! We need more women in positions of power. Our society needs female perspective on things. Otherwise we’ll continue to be overlooked and abused by the current system.

@ClareB78

Incredible series, it was good to see a story told from the perspective of the victim/survivor for a change. Amazing cast too, well done Netflix.

@browniesnofrownies4843

“Among the reasons most cited by victims for not reporting their assault are fear of retaliation” you got that right. And then the nerve some people have to tell you you’re lying and that it didn’t happen, otherwise you would’ve told authorities.

@mamabanana88

I was so angry when I watched this series. I was crying.

@genericwoman3713

Marie if you ever read this: you amaze me. You are my absolute hero and you have saved me in so many ways. I want to be as strong and resilient as you- never underestimate how incredible you are

@mjturnermjt

It happened to me. And for some reason it hurts worse to be told I was lying.

@mickjen

The most Unbelievable part is how many women, from across the Western world, are here in these comments, affirming that this same situation happens all.the.time. From the times you reported crimes and they weren't prosecuted, to the crimes you didn't commit, that were prosecuted. This series is important, and we should be showing it in high schools and having sex separated discussions about it, with FBI agents in with the boys, to start screening the sociopaths. That's how important and widespread this issue is. The moral isn't be on guard at all times, ladies, it's that law enforcement should be preventing men from raping, from a young age.

@martinaskupin9549

I counted it. Marie had to repeat her case 8x times, 7x times to police man and those two awful "detectives, plus at the hospital. 8x times more trauma. Why she first had to say everything to that young police man and right after him came Mason and she had to repeat it again? Why?

@apocalypseburger3298

I’m a male. Raped at 11 by a 12 year old at sleepaway camp. By foreign object. The camp blamed me, didn’t call authorities, tried to suggest I was displaying signs of parental abuse as a reason for not telling my parents until 3 days later. I didn’t even understand what had happened to me. This was the late 90s. I don’t remember preteens talking or being taught this shit. 21 years later I’ve begun talking about it. Last week was the first time I broke through the dissociation and reacted to what happened, well up to what happened. I cried for a good minute. So much work to do in therapy. I wonder what the other kid is doing. I wonder if he even remembers. I think about confronting the camp. But idk. I’m just very vulnerable at this stage. Just wanted to share anonymously. I tried watching this show. Had to stop after two episodes. Finished it a month or so later. Wanted to practice exposure. The first two were the hardest to watch.

@KRLEEQ

The cops asked Marie to recite the entire incident over and over as if they were asking her to turn on a light switch, like it was that easy and nonchalant to do. 🤦🏽‍♀️Yo if anyone didn’t know, Washington state is shit when it comes to getting justice for victims.

@yesminej4000

I think of her, after I watched it. Not the actress but her Marie. I pray for her strength. I pray it never happens to anyone. Because I know.

@Char-Williams

I'm so proud of Netflix for putting this story out there!!!

@carmenwilley8858

Toni Collette is one of my favorite actresses--she is so good.

@user-vb5nw2pr6c

“An investigation can become its own form of trauma.” This. I still can’t find the right words to express how watching this series was such an eye opening experience for me. I’m so glad Marie Adler is alive and happy somewhere irl. It gives me hope that life can always be good.

@MK-tq5ec

Finally this story is out. I’m tired of everyone saying she’s making things up when how can we convey the pain and loneliness when we are the victim yet treated like the criminal

@LorenaFlag

"According to a survey by the US Department of Justice, out of every 1000 sexual assaults, 995 perpetrators WILL WALK FREE." This is UNBELIEVABLE. And in Latin America, the stats are worst. It is painful to see how we (women) are treated in the world.
