you may not know it but some of this year's Oscar nominated films were first seen right here in Indie the 96 Academy Awards just 3 days away you can watch them right here on WTV and our own Jessica grundling is live outside of the Heartland Film Festival headquarters with more on really the Indie connection to the Oscars Jessica good morning Lauren yeah Heartland film likes to say that the road to the Oscars goes through Indiana and that's because of the two film festivals they hold each year th
at honors these films that then go on to be Oscar nominated a lot of people might not think about the movies when they think of Indiana but you really get this intimate experience and twice a year people get that experience here in Indianapolis with the Indie shorts International Film Festival and the Heartland International Film Festival we bring together a mix of like the big Oscar contenders the award season um contenders that played like Venice tell Ride Toronto and we were among the first f
estivals in the world after those fast to play a lot of those movies Greg sorvig is the artistic director for Heartland film I overse see the whole film process of films coming in so we have thousands of movies coming in through the submission platform so it's finding those Diamonds in the Rough that come in is very special films that our team believes in the Indie shorts Film Festival is also an Oscar qualifying Festival which is like a Wonka golden ticket a film wins a grand prize here they're
automatically on the early list three shorts showcased here are nominated a milestone this year too we have a movie called The Barber of Little Rock not only did that film get nominated it World premiered at Indie shorts right here in Indianapolis and in total 11 films honored by Heartland film are nominated for 35 Oscars that includes Oppenheimer Rustin The Color Purple anatomy of a fall and the holdovers it's very rewarding um it's not just um you get to see your friends get nominated for Osc
ars which is pretty unbelievable too and you can actually check out some of those short films here tonight at Heartland film headquarters they're hosting what they're calling Fort shorts and that starts at 7:00 tonight well sounds like a lot of fun Jessica so did Greg there have any predictions on who's going to be the big winner at the Oscars he did obviously he gave Oppenheimer he's saying that out of those 11 nominations they have he thinks he'll get seven that one of course is a lot of peopl
e's big winner he told me he expects them to walk away with best picture with Killian Murphy earning best a actor and with Robert Downey Jr winning best supporting actor and this comes after Oppenheimer walked away with five awards from the Golden Globes back in January Greg also told me he expects to see Awards hand out for killers of the flower Moon anatomy of a fall and then the holdovers and of course like we said you can watch the Oscars right here on WRTV that is on Sunday night at 7 o'
