ERIKO MIYAGAWA: "Shogun" takes place in the Sengoku period where there are constant civil wars happening, and to get every detail right was a critical aspect of the show. Had to learn Sunrise Movement. We had a boot camp before start shooting. We had a specialist for sword fighting, archery, horseback riding. ANNA SAWAI: My first question was did women actually fight, and, yes, they did. Samurais of her class, they would get training. Women would have their knees closed at all times even while f
ighting. The women had the naginata because they would have more reach. ERIKO MIYAGAWA: Back in the days, most of the samurai had their mid-part shaven. Otherwise, it gets too hot. Every day, every shot, checking for the exactly Japanese way. Each movement is very delicate. Small changes makes big difference.

"Small changes make a big difference."

@LunaticReason

Sad that I never got to learn the sword fighting or archery. I got hired as bg late in production as a samura. It was still an excellent experience and the show is definitely worth checking out

@matiasrocha317

So excited for Shōgun . Is going to be a complete masterpiece in my opinion ⚔️⚔️⚔️ .

@blacksnakemagic

I watched the original mini-series in 1980 with Sir Richard Chamberlain as Pilot-Major John Blackthorne and the great Toshirô Mifune as Lord Yoshi Toranaga. But for me, Yôko Shimada as Lady Toda Buntaro / Mariko absolutely stole the show  from those two giants. She was magnificent, and her performance, as the kids like to say these days, "got me right in the feels," every time. Even winning herself the Golden Globe For Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series. RIP Yôko 😢

@kengachaplin1773

@SDataCode

Love how to make a reboot and more authentical stunnig VFX movements and actors play, which will be awsome ! Cant wait to see it... I just check on Hulu platform and put it on notification... I think will complee the old version from '80 and be more acurate !

@rarzarbex9172

TV show of the year right here.

When the original series hit in 1980, it *broke* TV as we knew it. For the entire week there was literally nothing else on TV. IIRC, it even beat out Monday Football. And I loved the book so much that I've read it enough times to burn through three copies. For it's era [and you have to remember, Archie Bunker and All in the Family was still on TV then], it portrays Japan in a very positive and understanding light. That doesn't hold up nowadays, of course, but Shogun was part of the process of getting us where we are, just Roots was. Yes, there are absolutely a lot of Westernisms, inaccuracies, and glazing over important aspects of Sengoku Japan. But 16-year-old me was positively entranced by it, and it started me on a lifelong love of Chanbara and Toshiro Mifune movies. I have high hopes for this rendition/update/correction. And like a lot of you, I'm fairly jaded by my television but I haven't been this excited about a TV show in years.

@dimitu_

Rewatched the 1980 series recently and oh boy did Mifune deliver the performance. Curious to see Sanada, who is also epic in every movie, just to compare the role.

@MaihamanoKamosan

見るのが待ちきれない!!

@matdrat

This is fictionalized story of end of the Sengoku Jidai. The Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 ended the warring period. The Tokugawa Shogunate was established in 1603. All the historical names have been changed for artistic license. William Adams, an Englishman, - the real Miura Anjin - arrived in Japan in 1600 aboard a Dutch ship, became samurai, and died in 1620 leaving behind a son and a daughter he had with his Japanese wife, Oyuki.

@re11o

Show is 🔥 so far cant wait for Episode 3

@Barlofontain

I can't comment on the authenticity of the Japanese parts of the show, but I do know that the pistols Blackthorne has are British pattern 1716, Flintlocks... which didn't exist for over 100 years after the show is set. But it's a tiny detail in an absolutely stunning show, which I cannot wait to see more of
