this is your Statewide newscast Arkansas today well this Sunday you can try out soups from dozens of restaurants and support a good cause at the same time we're here with food blogger Kevin shayin from the mighty rib to tell us what we can expect Kevin thanks for joining us today thanks for having me so this is exciting it's it's soup Sunday uh so first of all what what exactly is this that we're talking about well it's a huge event that's been going on for decades now it's one of the oldest foo
d events in Little Rock and um it benefit it's the Arkansas or Arkansas advocates for children and family and uh it's just a great way all these different restaurants come together we're going to have 33 restaurants and 36 different soups wow and it's just a very low-key laid-back way to come together and to support a great organization so the question I think is why soup why why is soup kind of the dish that we're focusing on I mean that's a pretty good question but I probably because everyone
loves soup true you know it's just one of these things that um you know you when you're choosing a food event um and you want to you want to focus on a food that is appeals to a lot of people and the great thing about soup Sunday any type of soups are are going to show up here and some things that aren't even really technically considered soups like we'll have a couple chilies we'll have some gumbo uh so those are fun things so it's it's a very broad area of food but again it's a type of uh type
of specific area that appeals to a lot of people so if people want to check this out before we get into kind of the um expert tip on how you can get the most out of your soup Sunday um tell us about I know there's a silent auction that's also part of this that also ties into the the effort yeah the silent auction is a big component of this event uh it'll be I think available a couple days prior to Sunday online which anyone can bid on that and then uh it'll continue through the event and stop a
t the event but we got a variety of great silent auction items a big trip to Costa Rica we have a um I think a cocktail class we have a a tour at origami sake in Hot Springs you can uh have a weekend on a farm at rabbit Bridge Farm uh tons of gift certificates gift baskets cakes you name it it's going to be a wide variety of things I'm pretty excited about the silent auction and that's perfect for those who maybe you know are going to be out of town this weekend but still want to give back still
want to support their local community that's the perfect way to do so um so for those though who will be in town and want to check this out do we need to get tickets in advance can you just show up uh it's a good idea to get tickets in advance you go to AR advocates.org you can buy your tickets it's $45 for adults uh children 5- 17 or $10 and under five are free it's a very familyfriendly event like I was saying before and um you know come hungry and bring your muffin tin that's a big thing for
folks they bring their muffin tin so you don't have to walk around with just one sample you can get you know five or six different samples walk around chat you're going to see people you know it's a lot of fun uh but yeah people really get into to it the oldtimers have been bringing their muffin tins for for several years now so that's a big thing if you know you're in you're in the know if if you got your muffin tin if you show up with that yeah if you see someone next to you with a muffin tin
and you're without your muffin tin you're like oh this guy knows what he's talking about next year yeah make sure you bring it perfect well Kevin thank you so much for joining us today we will see you on Sunday for soup Sunday and and remember even if you can't go to the actual event you can go bid on that silent auction online it all goes back to the same great cost perfect thank you again thank you for having me of course
