the two wisest men in the Bible number one Solomon when Solomon came to the throne perhaps as a young 20 year old Solomon was raised in a palace that was Rife with Strife he sat in the front row watching as his older brothers amnon and Absalom wreaked havoc Solomon's heart was fixed on The Lord At this point in a dream God appeared to Solomon First Kings 3 verse 5 at gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream and God said ask for whatever you want me to give you the Lord tol
d Solomon ask what shall I give you God was giving Solomon a blank check and saying fill it in what do you want what if the Lord woke you up tonight and said ask me whatever you want what would you say your honest answer will reveal a great deal about yourself consider everything Solomon could have asked for but consider what Solomon said he prayed to God for wisdom so that he could be the king he needed to be God was overjoyed by Solomon's response in response to prayer Solomon became the wises
t man who ever lived he also became one of History's wealthiest men First Kings 3 verses 7 to 15. now Lord my God you have made your servant King in place of my father David but I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties your servant is here among the people you have chosen a great people too numerous to count or number so give your servant a Discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong for who is able to govern this great people of y
ours the Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this so God said to him since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself nor have you asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering Justice I will do what you have asked I will give you a wise and Discerning heart so that there will never have been anyone like you nor will there ever be moreover I will give you what you have not asked for both wealth and honor so that in your lifetime you wi
ll have no equal among Kings and if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did I will give you a long life then Solomon awoke and he realized it had been a dream Solomon was a great king and an excellent administrator he constructed the Magnificent Temple that his father had envisioned perhaps Solomon's most famous act was the construction of the temple with materials and plans provided by his father David God had promised David that he would allow his
son to build the first permanent place of centralized worship as predicted centuries before in the book of Deuteronomy it was a magnificent Temple and took seven years to build it took 12 years to build Solomon's Palace however although the temple was constructed out of cut stone the sound of hammer and chisel was never hurt thus the temple was erected silently first king 6 verse 7. while it was being built the house was built of stone prepared and finished pre-cut at the Quarry and no Hammer ax
or iron tool of any kind was heard in the house while it was under construction for many years this remained a mystery until someone discovered a massive cave the size of a large theater on Mount Moriah near Calvary outside Jerusalem millions of small chips cover the floor where The Rock has been cut the rock is so soft that it can be cut with a pen knife but when exposed to air it oxidizes and becomes quite hard all of the stones for the temple came from this cave where they cut the blocks to
fit into the temples above ground his Reign brought great prosperity to the Israelites the Empire stretched from Egypt to Euphrates and included most of the territory promise to them the Queen of Sheba visited Solomon and was impressed by the splendor the book of Kings chapter 6 contains a detailed description of the layout of the temple they can be pretty intricate and Technical at times making it difficult to gain a clear picture of the situation nevertheless we are aware that the construction
of the temple followed something like the following it measured a length of 90 feet a width of 30 feet and a height of 45 feet the cost of the construction of Solomon's Temple was not less than 30 million dollars according to the estimate of Professor ignats Alfred grott of Breslau the temple built by King Solomon was constructed mainly of Egyptian materials and was completed not earlier than 1000 BC according to the professor's conclusions King Solomon constructed the temple with great skill s
paring no expense and paying careful attention to every detail even the invisible parts were finished to a high standard of quality and accuracy by him Solomon's reputation spread far and wide and the magnitude of his power grew substantially as a result of his building program his wisdom far surpassed that of all the people of the East and all of Egypt's wisdom was significant because these regions were renowned for their wisdom in fact the author of King stated unequivocally that there was no
comparison Solomon was wiser than anyone furthermore Solomon's reputation was well known the surrounding nations came to know and respect Israel's King every King on the planet dispatched emissaries to hear Solomon's wisdom God's kingdom was blessing the kingdoms of the world First Kings 4 verses 29-34 New American Standard Bible now God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind like the sand that is on the seashore Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people
of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt for he was wiser than all other people more than Ethan the Ezra height himan kalkol and Tada the sons of maol and his Fame was known in all the surrounding Nations he also told three thousand Proverbs and his songs numbered 1005 he told of trees from the cedar that is in Lebanon even the hysop that grows on the wall he also told of animals Birds crawling things and fish people came from all the nations to hear the wisdom of Solomon from all the kings of t
he earth who had heard of his wisdom it was typical of a king to send emissaries to Solomon however this queen came herself to confirm the words that she had heard we previously learned that Solomon's Fame had spread widely the story of the Queen of Sheba exemplifies this point the Queen of Sheba paid a visit to Solomon's Court the queen came to see Solomon because of his Fame associated with the name of the Lord which is most likely a reference to the wisdom that the Lord had bestowed upon him
she came to put him to the test with riddles to see if his abilities lived up to his reputation First Kings 10 verse 1. when the Queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord she came to test Solomon with hard questions she wasn't exactly a pauper herself bringing a large Entourage of expensive and exotic gifts with her first king 10 verse 2. arriving at Jerusalem with a very great Caravan with camels carrying spices large quantities of gold and precious stones
she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind but Solomon's wisdom and wealth were far beyond her comprehension it took her breath away by the time she had heard his explanations and seen his glorious Kingdom First Kings 10 verses 3 to 5. Solomon answered all her questions nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her when the Queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built the food on his table the seating of his officials the attendin
g servants in their robes his cupbearers and the burnt offerings he made at the Temple of the Lord she was overwhelmed the visiting Queen admitted she had not believed the reports about Solomon that she had heard but she'd seen for herself that he was the real deal she then thanked the Lord for putting Solomon on the throne for the sake of Israel First Kings 10 verses 9 to 13. praise be to the Lord your God who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel because of the Lord's ete
rnal love for Israel he has made you King to maintain Justice and righteousness and she gave the king 120 talents of gold large quantities of spices and precious stones never again were so many spices brought in as those the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon Hiram's ships brought gold from Affair and from there they brought great cargos of almag wood and precious stones the King used the almag wood to make supports for the Temple of the Lord and the Royal Palace and to make Harps and Liars for
the musicians so much almag wood has never been imported or seen since that day King Solomon gave the Queen of Sheba all she desired and asked for besides what he had given her out of his Royal Bounty then she left and returned with her retinue to her own country an interesting insight into the Queen of Sheba is that she did not take people at face value whether that be on the basis of their self-reports or the reputation that they have garnered from other people in other words she wanted to se
e the results for herself number two Jesus the wisdom of Jesus much has been said about Jesus his compassion Grace humility but we also see the greatness of his wisdom in Luke 11 verse 31 and behold something greater than Solomon is here at first glance it may seem that only a very arrogant person would make such a statement about themselves for Solomon was considered the exact standard of greatness and knowledge an ordinary man would never think of it a prudent man would never say it the Lord J
esus Christ if we regard him as a mere man would have never uttered such an expression for a more modest man was never found it was because the Divinity within him must speak out for God to say that he is greater than all his creatures is no boasting the second thought that comes to one's mind is this notice the self-consciousness of the Lord Jesus Christ he knows who he is and what he is and is not slowly in spirit because he is ignorant of his own greatness he was meek and lowly in heart but h
e knew that he was the King of Kings he takes a towel and he washes his disciples feet but he knows he is their master and their lord he Associates with publicans and harlots and dwells with ordinary people but he knows that he is the only begotten of the father Solomon was the son of David and one of the great Messianic titles of Jesus in Son of David Jesus was a much greater son of David than Solomon ever was we again are impressed by the greatness of Jesus's self-claim to stand in front of th
ese religious leaders and claim to be greater than Israel's richest and wisest King was audacious yet the seeming Audacity Of Jesus was well Justified we see Jesus's wisdom when the authorities are seeking for a way to get rid of him the die is cast the authorities are seeking a way to get rid of him they can't just annihilate him however that would be killing the Pharisees pose a difficult question to Jesus after giving him a flattering introduction Matthew 22 verses 15 to 21 Amplified Bible th
en the Pharisees went and conspired together plotting how to trap him by distorting what he said they sent their disciples to him along with herodians saying teacher we know that you are sincere and that you teach the way of God truthfully without concerning yourself about what anyone thinks or says of your teachings for you are impartial and do not seek anyone's favor and you treat all people alike regardless of status tell us then what do you think is it permissible according to Jewish law and
tradition to pay uphold tax to Caesar or not but Jesus aware of their malice asked why are you testing me you Hypocrites show me the coin used for the poll tax and they brought him a Daenerys a day's wage and Jesus said to them whose likeness and inscription is this they said the emperor Tiberius Caesars then he said to them then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesars and to God the things that are gods when asked about taxes Jesus faced a dilemma if he advocated for paying them people might
accuse him of challenging God's sovereignty over Israel leading to unpopularity if someone were to say that taxes should not be paid they would make themselves an enemy of Rome but Jesus perceived their wickedness Jesus once again demonstrated his complete control and wisdom with his response rebuking the wickedness and hypocrisy of the Pharisees and herodians we are responsible to God in all things but we must be obedient to government in matters civil and National Peter said it like it is fea
r God honor the king first Peter 2 verse 17. everyone has the image of God impressed upon them this means that we belong to God not to Caesar or not even to ourselves in essence Jesus taught that one can be a true citizen of the kingdom of God while still obeying a foreign ruler's laws by considering them separate entities this means that the kingdom of God is Not of this world if this was not enough that very day the Sadducees attempt to trap him with the marriage issue Matthew 22 verse 23-28 A
mplified Bible on that day some Sadducees who say that there is no resurrection of the Dead came to him and asked him a question saying teacher Moses said if a man dies leaving no children his brother as next of kin shall marry his widow and raise children for his brother now there were seven brothers Among Us the first married and died and having no children left his wife to his brother the second also died childless and the third down to the seventh last of all the woman died so in the resurre
ction whose wife of the seven will she be for they are all married her the Sadducees were a small group that held significant power as the wealthy aristocratic and governing class the riddle was about a woman who married one of her deceased husbands Brothers after his death The Woman married the third brother after the second one passed away and continued to marry each subsequent brother until she reached the seventh eventually the woman herself passed away then came the question designed to hum
iliate him who is the resurrection Matthew 22 29. but Jesus replied to them you are all wrong because you know neither the scriptures which teach the resurrection nor the power of God for he is able to raise the Dead the argument presented was that the concepts of Resurrection had too many obstacles to be considered logical leading to the conclusion that it must not be accurate Jesus responded by stating that the issue was not with the doctrine itself but rather with their lack of knowledge rega
rding the scriptures and the power of God it's important to note that the scriptures do not mention the continuation of the husband-wife relationship in heaven although individuals will still be recognizable as their respective genders they will all be similar to angels in that they will not marry or be given in marriage secondly they were ignorant of the power of God if he was capable of forming people from dust indeed he could also resurrect those who had passed away and transformed them into
glorious bodies Matthew 22 verses 30 to 32. for in the resurrection neither do men marry nor are woman given in marriage but they are like angels in heaven who do not marry nor produce children but as to the resurrection of the Dead have you not read in the scripture what God said to you I am the god of Abraham and the god of Isaac and the god of Jacob he is not the god of the dead but of the living then the Lord Jesus brought forth an argument from scripture to show that Resurrection is an abso
lute necessity in Exodus 3 Verse 6 God spoke of himself as the god of Abraham Isaac and Jacob yet Jesus pointed out God is not the god of the dead but of the living When the Crowds heard this they were astonished at his teaching it is incredible how Jesus's wisdom turned these tests into a teachable moment we should be grateful for the responses of Jesus they shed light on the mysterious nature of the supernatural also we see the wisdom of Jesus when the Pharisees attempt to ask him an unanswera
ble question Matthew presents an intriguing scene where the adversaries of Jesus make efforts to humiliate him but their attempts fail what was the greatest commandment surely Jesus wouldn't want to leave out any Jesus condensed the law into one directive love God and your neighbor he then posed a question that is not answered demonstrating his Superior knowledge of the scriptures Matthew 22 verses 41-46 Amplified Bible now while the Pharisees were still gathered together Jesus asked them a ques
tion what do you Pharisees think of the Christ the Messiah the anointed whose son is he they said to him the son of David Jesus asks them how is it then that David by the inspiration of the spirit calls him Lord saying the Lord the father said to my Lord the son the Messiah sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet so then if David calls him the son the Messiah Lord how is he David's son no one was able to say a word to him in answer nor from that day on did anyone dare to qu
estion him again during the Passover season in Jerusalem religious leaders attempt to trap Jesus and cause him embarrassment in front of the pilgrims however Jesus turned the tables and ended up embarrassing the religious leaders instead this shows the wisdom of Jesus Jesus asked a thought-provoking question during his teachings if David calls him Lord how can he be his son the answer to this question is that the Messiah is both David's Lord and Son as he is both God and man therefore as God he
is David's Lord and as man he is David's son if the Pharisees had been open to learning they would have understood that Jesus was the Messiah the Son of David through Mary's lineage and the Son of God as evidenced by his teachings actions and character Solomon has left us some very valuable books the Proverbs Ecclesiastes and the matchless song but oh the words of Solomon fall far short of the words of Jesus Christ for they are spirit and life Jesus's words hold more power than the wise sayings
of any Sage proverbial wisdom cannot match his sayings nor can the preacher rival his sermons his teachings surpass those of Solomon as his wisdom is divine and guides people to Heaven those who learn from him are truly blessed in his nature the Lord Jesus is greater than Solomon Alas poor Solomon the strongest man that's ever lived namely Samson was the weakest of men and the wisest man that ever lived was perhaps the greatest indeed the most conspicious fool how different is our Lord there is
no infirmity in Christ no foolishness in Jesus the backsliding of Solomon finds no parallel in Jesus in whom the prince of this world found nothing though he searched him through and through our Lord surpasses Solomon because he is not just an ordinary man the difference is immense When comparing the greatness of character between Christ and Solomon and Christ surpasses Solomon in both nature and character it is essential to trust and Delight in him for those of us who trust him we will continue
to love and rejoice in him forever may God have mercy on those who do not love him and bring them to know the joy of trusting in Christ amen
