not a lot of details are being released about that incident from yesterday but law enforcement want to take the opportunity to remind parents that something like this can happen to anyone anywhere our Trent crowsy spoke to Wood County Sheriffs on what to look out for he joins us live in studio so Trent what did the sheriff say well Kaylee Sheriff Mark vasilician says child abductions do happen he says under one percent are done by a stranger and are typically someone the family knows so making s
ure you take precautions or educating your little ones about what to do in situations like this could be vital as the weather starts to warm up many families take the time to get out whether that's a ball game zoo or park and while parents shouldn't worry about taking their kids to public spaces what county sheriff Mark vozilition says parents need to stay alert but unfortunately they sometimes attract troubled people or people in the influence of drugs or alcohol that aren't thinking straight a
nd aren't making the right decisions and may do something they may otherwise not to do sure if osulation says having your kids by your side and making sure you can see them at all times is the most important but if someone does grab your child and you don't see it make sure your kid knows to be loud and able to get others attention first name last name address and fantastic if you can get them to memorize your number actually that phone number is probably the most important one before going to a
big ball game or event it's not a bad idea to make sure they know what to do the sheriff oscillation says that's finding someone in a uniform whether that's an employee security guard or officer and also knowing your contact information is helpful in any situation someone grabs them and it's not Mom Dad Grandma Grandpa you need to say that it's not Mom Dad and then that will get people involved before an event you can even take a picture of them so you know exactly what they're wearing and even
set a meet-up spot set a time and have everyone turn to a location at that time to just kind of check in make sure everybody's okay and I also asked the sheriff how to know if someone's impersonating an officer and he says well it can happen it's very uncommon and to be sure to look out for patches and badges on the uniform and that's important reporting in studio Trent crowsy WTOL 11.
