The Art Craze

Tom Sito: Let's do the Beast from "Beauty and the Beast." Zachary Roozen: The Beast! TS: This is fun. Okay so you start with this. ZR: Okay I can do that. TS: Right. And then this. Haha I like that. ZR: Oh it's like an unhappy. TS: Well the Beast is always cranky. Cuz he's the Beast, you know? And then you put a triangle there. And then you put another triangle here. And now we start to build the eyes. And then he had those teeth. Like that. ZR: Canines. TS: Yeah. I was working with Glen Keane w
hen he was designing the Beast. And I remember he said, he said "I don't want to just create" You know, he says, "In most versions of "Beauty and the Beast", the guy who plays the beast is basically a human actor with a dog nose on it. You see plays with "Beauty and the Beast", it's just a guy with a funny nose. Yeah, and he's like, "I really want it to feel like an animal." Like it's an animal human." An animal human hybrid, as you know, they used to say. Like that. And then you got the high c
heekbones. Like this. Like that. We actually had to do, when we were doing the story on this originally We actually did a lot of research into the surroundings Cuz it was like rural France French Chateau 1709. Say like, okay what do the carriages look like? What do the signs look like? What do the buildings look like, you know? There's an old Hollywood saying about research: "Only God creates from nothing." ZR: I like that, yeah!
