Shawn Jordison: In today's
video, we're going to talk about the top five things that
nonprofits can do to increase and maintain the accessibility
of their organizations. Welcome to The Accessibility Guy
channel. My name is Shawn Jordison. And don't forget to

The very first thing that I would do is I would ensure
digital accessibility across the board. This includes following
the WCAG or WCAG guidelines for both your websites and all
of
your documents that are posted onto the websites. This will
ensure that all of your digital content (including your websites,
PDFs, Word files, and PowerPoints), are navigable
understandable, and perceivable for all users. Now I want to
find out how to make your documents more accessible. You
can check out the link in the description to see some of my
other playlists and other videos about how to apply accessibility
to your documents. The second thing that I would do is provide
accessible mu
ltimedia, make sure that you are including closed
captioning and audio description for all video content that is
used across your organization. The third thing that you can do
is educate and train your staff. Make sure to invest in training
for your team on accessibility standards and best practices and
how to apply them to all of your content and digital tools. The
fourth thing that nonprofits can do to increase the accessibility
of their organization is to engage with their users. Make
sure to
include people with disabilities in user testing to
gain direct feedback on accessibility and usability and
maintain open and accessible communication channels for
feedback and support. This can include having a webpage or
contact information in the footer for people with
disabilities who come across any challenges when navigating the
content of your organization. And finally, the last tip that I
would give to nonprofit organizations is to adopt an
accessibility first policy, develop and implem
ent an
accessibility policy that guides your organization's approach.
Make sure to use continuous evaluation and updates to ensure
compliance and address any new accessibility challenges that
appear. Nonprofit agencies already provide such valuable
work to the community. And by ensuring that those with
disabilities are included, nonprofit organizations can take
another step in the right direction. If you want to find
out how I can help you get accessible, take a look at the
link in the descripti
on of this video. And as always, I can be
your personal accessibility expert. Thank you so much for
joining me today and I'll see you next time.
