A professor who successfully predicted many presidential elections in the past actually believes that the current president has a good chance of winning. When I taught elementary algebra at Hostos Community College, there were students with poor study habits who were disrespectful. They would constantly complain to the math department no matter how I tried to be helpful. Their main reason for attending school was to take advantage of the welfare system, repeating the class again and again at the expense of tax money. When I was on an interview at the Young's Woman Leadership Academy", I told a colleague about my difficulties. The assistant principal asked me, "Did you say that there were Puerto Ricans on welfare?" If I had used a different race in the sentence then it may not be perceived as racism. More people will come for welfare and those who point out that many them are Hispanic could be cancelled out.
