The child is just 2 years old. What is the problem if he doesn't speak? His father also said late that you are unnecessarily worrying. Do you also get such suggestions? Are you also confused that your child has autism or this speech delay? If yes, then watch today's video carefully. Hi, welcome back to Sainyam. Thank you so much for watching our videos so carefully, learning from them and sharing them. We really hope that whatever information we are giving you, it will definitely make a differen
ce in your life and your child's life. One more thing you have to do is that there is a subscription button below. If you have not pressed it yet, then press it now. Also, press the bell icon so that you don't miss any video. Many parents ask us that the child is 1.5 years old, 2 years old, does he have autism or is it speech delay? To give clarity on this, we are making today's video in which we will talk about some indications or symptoms which will make it clear to you that the child is deali
ng with autism or he has speech delay. One thing you have to keep in mind is that if the child is not speaking for 1.5-2 years, then it is a concern, but it is not necessary that he has autism. There can be many other reasons other than not being able to speak. So let's talk about these symptoms and indications in detail. Most of us make the mistake of giving a lot of concern about speech. Whereas, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that speech is an aspect of language. There are tw
o aspects in communication in language. One is verbal communication in which the child speaks and tells. And the other is non-verbal communication in which the child tries to communicate with us in many other ways. So let's first understand what are the milestones of language, speech and communication. Let's know how you can differentiate stepwise whether it is speech delay or autism. Often, between the age of 5 to 7 months, children start babbling. But this is missing in most cases of speech de
lay and autism. But if there is only speech delay, the child will start giving you eye contact between 5 to 7 months, will start smiling at you and will start showing emotions, which are sometimes not available in the case of autism. When the child is 8 to 10 months old, if he is sitting and you are walking around him, he will raise his hand and prompt you to take him in your lap and love him. Or if you are leaving him somewhere, he will start crying. In this way, he starts expressing his affect
ions and emotions. Also, if you are going somewhere, the child will start saying bye to you with action. If you play peekaboo with him, he will start playing peekaboo with you till this age. All this will happen if it is a case of speech delay. But if it is a case of autism, it may be that these things will be missing. Normally, by the age of 12 months, the child starts saying a few words. This is a normal milestone. But if there is any speech delay or autism, then it may not be available. But a
part from this, there are many things that you can notice. If there is only speech delay, then the child will start pointing by the age of 12 months. For example, if he needs a specific toy that is far from his reach, he will point his finger towards it and prompt you to bring it. Or if he needs water, he will point it towards it. In the case of autism, there is a specific trait that the child does not point. The child will cry seeing that thing. It may be that he pulls you there and your hand p
oints towards that object. But pointing with your finger will be very difficult in the case of autism. The second thing is that by the age of 12 months, the child responds very well to his name. You will often find this in the case of speech delay. It is possible that if the child is involved in his game, he will not respond 10 out of 10 times, but he will definitely respond 6 to 7 times to his name and 87 00:04:59,294 --> 00:05:00,000 give you a smile. But in the case of autism, the child ofte
n gets lost in himself. Even if you call his name, he does not respond many times. So this frequency can be 0 to 1 or 2 maximum. Whereas in the case of speech delay, you will often find children responding to their name. Number 3. At this age, children start imitating. That is, they start copying by looking at you. They will respond the same way you do with them. If you scratch their cheek, they will scratch yours. If you do this, they will do this with you. So you will find all these things, im
itation, start in the case of speech delay, but imitation does not develop very quickly in the case of autism. Approximately by the age of 18 months, the child has a vocabulary of at least 20 to 30 words. In which the child starts saying the titles of his close ones like papa, mama, dada, dadi, verbs and adjectives like dedo, lelo, upar, niche, and many more. In addition, the child starts imitating very well at the age of 12 months. And he also starts learning through imitation. For example, if
you throw a ball, the child will also try to throw a ball by looking at you. In this way, the child will start learning more games through imitation. If the child is not speaking but imitating very well, then most probably this is speech delay. But in the case of autism, the child will not even imitate. By the age of 2, the child has a vocabulary of 50 to 100 words and starts saying two-word phrases. Like give water, give food, go for a walk. This may not happen in both speech delay and autism.
But in the case of speech delay, there are many things that the child will do and you can notice. Like instruction following. At the age of 2, the child starts following instructions very well. Simple instructions, simple commands like come here, go there, come here, sit down. These small instructions the child starts following. In addition, at the age of 2, the child starts playing with his toys very well. Emotions develop a lot, so the child also shares his joys and sorrows with you. For examp
le, if a toy has broken, the child will come to you and cry, show the toy. Or if he has done very well in a game, achieved something, he will clap very happily. He will ask for your appreciation and will show you too. Whereas in the case of autism, this does not happen. In the case of autism, the child plays with toys in a particular way. For example, he starts lining up toys. If there are blocks, cars, any toy, then instead of playing properly with it, he will be lined up. While lining up, you
may have shoes or pens at home, anything that looks like this, then he will start lining up instead of playing with them. Because our children have less emotions, they will not be able to tell you their joys and sorrows, their sorrows, their joys. They will not be able to communicate. Apart from this, instructions following will also not be there in the case of autism. Until you have an intervention, instruction following will not come automatically at the age of 2. In the case of autism, you wi
ll also see some more repetitive behaviors. Like head spinning, hand flapping, or toe walking. Apart from this, the child will also show fixation with toys sometimes. For example, if he is playing with a car, he will keep turning the tires by turning the car upside down. Or if he is playing with a pen and cap, he will keep putting a cap in the pen and then take it out. So you will see such repetitive patterns in the case of autism. In the case of autism, there is one more thing which is sensory
overload. You will see sensory issues with the child, where the child will be either over-sensitive or under-sensitive either due to pain, or due to pressure, or due to light and sound. In this way, if you take the child to different situations, different surroundings, the child may have to face sensory overload, due to which you may see behavioral issues. The child may feel uncomfortable and may throw tantrums. So this is happening because the child is being absorbed by the and is not able to f
ace it. So in the case of autism, you will also see these things, which are not there in the case of speech delay. 176 00:10:15,143 --> 00:10:02,000 sensory overload. If a child is achieving all these milestones up to the age of except speech, then you can be very clear that this is a case 2, 179 00:10:19,000 --> 00:10:16,000 of speech delay and not autism. So there is no need to worry. You should consult a speech therapist as soon as possible and start working on the child's speech therapy. Bu
t if this is the case of autism, then you will have to work on the focus and attention of the child first. Autism children are often hyperactive, so first you have to work on their hyperactivity so that sitting behavior develops, and then you can grab their focus and attention and then you can work on their speech. We have already made a video related to hyperactivity in detail, you can watch it. So we really hope that after today we will see both aspects of communication, both verbal and non-ve
rbal. And if the child is communicating non-verbal with you, then there is no need to worry. This is a case of speech delay, which you can easily tackle with the help of a speech therapist. Remember, there are two aspects of speech. The first is what the child has to say and the second is how the child has to speak. The part of how to speak, using the muscles of the mouth, or the rotations of the tongue, using the tongue with different ways and different pressures, all that you will have to do w
hen you go to the speech therapist with the child, he will make you practice it and the aspect of how he is going to speak will be clear. But there is an equal aspect which is what to say. That is the vocabulary building or one word, two word, three word, meaningful sentences building. For this, if you use our learning to life module with the child, I am sure you will get a lot of help. Do check that as well. Remember, your child communicates even when he doesn't speak. Your child is giving you
signals, telling you what he needs. It is up to you how quickly you understand it. And remember, early diagnosis and intervention is the key to success. The sooner you understand, the sooner you can work and the sooner you can get results. So don't leave your child's side, don't leave your child's hand. Because what you can do for your child, no one else can do it. See you very soon in our next video. Till then take care, God bless you.
