Where`s the Party?

4 weeks ago

in the last 10 years I have traveled quite a bit  I've been to around 50 countries a lot of them alone and that would not have been possible if I  didn't think of alternative ways to travel that could minimize the expenses because I'm not  rich travel can be expensive we all know but thankfully in these modern days there are so many  ways how you can reduce that cost and sometimes travel literally for free with that said it's all  about being flexible going outside of your comfort zone trying ne
w things doing things differently  sometimes it's about slow travel sometimes it's just about you're smart so in this video I want to  share with you some of the ways of how I traveled literally for free or how I minimized my expenses  so that I could have the most amazing experiences all around the world from South America to  Southeast Asia first and the most important thing that literally changed my mindset the way  I travel opened me up to all the possibilities available I don't know how act
ive this platform  is today I haven't used it in a while but cou surfing has changed the way I travel if you're  not familiar with CouchSurfing CouchSurfing is a platform where where you exchange a cultural  experience for free accommodation usually that comes in the form of a couch or a spare bedroom  sometimes I was hosting people that just slept on the floor and used their sleeping bags cou surfing  is usually for people that are maybe like from a younger demographic although it's not complet
ely  exclusive I started using it 12 years ago when I moved to Paris and I didn't know anyone at that  point I used it a lot just for meeting people to hang out to do certain activities together because  I just wanted to have friends in Paris and as soon as I arrived there in a matter of a week or two I  already knew so many people they are still my dear friends to this day and I still returned to Paris  to go and visit them so CouchSurfing definitely gave me a lot I have to think about i c surf
ed  in Amsterdam I Couchsurfed in Iraq where else did I Couchsurf I can't remember I also hosted some  people in Ljubljana I know my first um CouchSurfer was from Australia it's a really really cool way  to minimize your expenses when you are a little bit more flexible it's more like a backpacking  students kind of way but I highly recommend that even if you just want to meet people local people  so that you can be a little bit more immersed in the culture we all know that staying in a hotel  ca
n be a little bit isolating and it only gives you like a one-sided view of the country of the  place where you are visiting so cow surfing can be a great way of how you can just go a little bit  deeper a little bit more immersive just get a bit more familiar with the Customs the culture you can  stay at someone's home what better place to get to know the the the country you're visiting the place  that you're visiting than to stay at someone's house like for me at the beginning of my travels  it
was really a way of how I could learn about the world outside of what I already knew next one  is work away I know there are a lot of volunteer platforms out there I've only done volunteer work  through workaway I've done two so far my first was in 2020 just before the pandemic I did my two  voluntary work at a small resort in the middle of the jungle next to the Khao Sok National Park in  Thailand and that was a really amazing experience at that point I was already traveling for like two  month
s and a half I was running out of my finances so I didn't want to leave and I just thought it  would be a great way for me to learn a little bit about the culture get a completely new experience  and it would also allowed me to stay there and Khao Sok just by itself was an amazing experience  I really enjoyed staying there there are so many different opportunities through Workaway you  can do anything you want I was working at the reception and I also was taking care of the  owner's dogs so it w
as a versatile experience and I really really enjoyed it so then during the  pandemic when I literally became homeless and broke I decided to do Workaway again I moved to  tenner reef and I was lucky enough to be accepted in a very highly highly desirable place amongst  the volunteers which is Tenerife horse rescue it's an animal shelter uh based off of rescuing horses  but they also had 300 other small animals and big animals and the the time I was a videographer I  was doing YouTube videos for
them and I stayed there for three months so I was living there  completely expense free I had accommodation I lived in an actual cave now if you're not familiar  with the culture and living situation in Tenerife there's huge communities that just live in that  live in caves it's very rustic very hippie like but it's very sustainable at the same time we were  also freegan so all the food that we were eating came from literally the dumpster but in reality  mostly it was uh waste from farms the th
e produce that they couldn't sell to the stores and then  all the food that was expired and couldn't be sold at the supermarkets there we would pick up and we  would eat everything that was good the the the the food that was maybe a little bit lower in quality  was given to the animals and everything that was high quality it was for all the volunteers that  experience it completely shifted my mentality when it comes to what kind of lifestyles are  even possible the whole place was built from reu
sed repurposed materials everything came from  the skits or was donated donated to us or it came from the land people were living in like I said  I was living in a cave some people were living in like little Huts that were built from wood or from  clay or they were living in old vans it was such a crazy and amazing experience I stayed there for  three whole months and I had so much time to go off on the island I rented my own car and it was  it was a life-changing experience for sure I would not
be able to stay for 3 months in the island  with I think at the time I was earning about 400 per month which is you know in Slovenia I would  not be able to pay rent for anything not even a room so that literally saved me and showed me all  the possibilities of how I could live if I want to so work away I definitely plan on using this  opportunity sometime in the near future maybe I would like to go work somewhere on a farm or try  to try to go somewhere more secluded where I could work with an
imals again maybe with gardening  permaculture uh something like ecos sustainable things like because you get so much knowledge by  living in such a community and uh my plans for the future are definitely to build something of my  own in those Realms so as much as I can learn for free literally um the better this next one is not  for everyone well none of these are for everyone you I think you have to be quite free spirited  adventurous exploring kind of person again last year I uh found myself
with not much money and no  place to live and I wanted to go someplace really nice so I found a seasonal job in Slovenia in the  mountains where I worked in a hotel for 5 months I had accommodation all the food for free plus  I was getting paid and I was literally living in Paradise if you are new here on the channel  and you have not seen all those videos I have loads of videos just talking about that it's  also the period where I've earned and saved the most money in my life and it was just al
l in  all like so profound for me to be staying at such a beautiful place for free earning the most money  I have ever earned in my entire life and the job was fairly easy to do I was working at a hotel  reception nothing too crazy Hospitality has its own demands but there are so many jobs that you  can do as a seasonal job around the world I met so many people right there at the same Village  who were from all around the world from South America from east Europe from Central Europe  they all ca
me there because of the beauty of the place and the plus was they get paid for it  and I've seen a lot of organizations um a lot of different platforms just be offering seasonal jobs  so definitely if you're interested into earning money while you are at some place new some place  that is exciting definitely look into that we all know that you can work in hosts everywhere around  the world for free accommodation but this is like next level this is like being paid of course you  work longer hours
but at the end you earn enough to go travel for a year so I think it's definitely  worth thinking about if you have plans to do an extensive travel or if you have plans to I don't  know buy a home after that or something like that because you are saving shitloads of money while  you are staying at this beautiful place the fourth one I have actually not tried ride but it's in  my plans so while I was living in London I did a lot of pet sitting and dog walking most of the  times uh it was a longe
r period so somebody would go on vacation and I would watch over their pets  over their dog for a few days for a week 10 days and I would stay at their house and while  I was doing that I learned about a website Trustedhousesitters I've been looking at it for  so long because through that website you can find places all around the world uh most of them are in  Europe but Europe is expensive so I was thinking the next time I want to I don't know spend a few  weeks or even months in I don't know S
outh France or Portugal or England I would definitely do that  because those countries are very very expensive especially when it comes to accommodation and we  all know that when you travel usually the plane ticket and accommod ation are the two biggest  expenses so how you can travel for literally free let's say is to minimize those two things  instead of taking a plane you can I don't know hitchhike you can uh cycle across Europe there are  so many ways it just depends on your flexibility you
r courage your comfort zone but uh I think  that this house sitting pet sitting situation is a really really amazing opportunity again for  someone someone who wants to travel a little bit slower who wants to stay at a local's place who  loves animals who doesn't mind putting in a little bit of work I mean like pet sitting like really  isn't that much work you take a dog out a few times per day you play like there's really really  amazing places that you can stay for free if you just put in a fe
w hours of caring for an animal  like it's insane and I know it goes the same for house sitting I know there's house swaps and  things like that I haven't tried any of that yet but definitely in the future I always travel on  the budget so I always trying to find a way how I can minimize the expenses so I really don't mind  staying somewhere for a longer period to really experience the place from a different perspective  not just being like a tourist and running from from uh one side to the anot
her just ticking off  places that I want to see just taking off tourist attractions that's not the point of travel so  if that's the point then it's better to go on a holiday that is a little bit more conventional and  if you don't have much time that is also the thing like if you just want to rest and have a vacation  then this is not for you if you want to immerse yourself if you want to travel slow if you want to  gain life experience work experience if you just want something different if yo
u want to change  of scenery then this is definitely for you and last but not least this is my by far my favorite  one and I know I do have some advantages because I'm a journalist but when you are producing  content either writing um either being a video phographer or photographer or anything like  that you could get free accommodation all around the world because hotels magazines platforms  websites they all need content I was working as a journalist and editor for 15 years and in  the last ni
ne years when I was traveling to most places I would always write an article and I would  get collaborations with hotels and restaurants and sometimes even activities and I would get get  those for free it would be an exchange of services I would get free accommodations and I would give  them an article in a magazine and I've stayed in some really crazy places that I would normally  not have budget for probably some of the most expensive hotels that I stayed for free were like  a 1000 something
EUR for a night because I stayed in a villa with my own pool in Marakesh fore free  just because I was writing an article and anyone can do that you think that this is reserved for  some influencers who have a lot of followers but actually there's so many media outlets out there  who need content I could make a whole entire video just about this if you want to hear all the tips  about how you can get free hotels free restaurants free activities in exchange for producing content  or writing artic
les then please comment below and I will do that video in conclusion like I said  at the beginning this is for openhearted open spirited people there are a lot of other different  ways of how you can travel for free people just do it by walking hitchhiking camping in the wild so  many crazy adventurous people out there who are traveling in so many different ways it just  depends on how open how flexible you are and what kind of experience you want but yeah there is  no more excuses that travel i
s expensive because nowadays if you're smart if you put in a little  bit of work if you are resourceful then you can travel for literally for free okay this is  it for today's video please tell me in the comments if you have any questions I hope this  was valuable for you and I'll see you next time bye

5:49 this whole experience sounds incredible!! Glad I saw this, it's like a continuation to our conversation in the other comments section 😅

@Antpersuasion

What a great video, full of tips and advice on travelling on a budget (perhaps even when the budget is at, or close to, zero). You speak with such solid experience and I always find your enthusiasm captivating. The seasonal work idea would be a fantastic way to learn something about a new place, its people and its culture. The house-sitting/pet-sitting arrangement is a new one on me, and it's a really novel idea. Brilliant! 👍😀

@patternuts

What a great video again! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. You inspired me last year to go and work at "Tenerife Horse Rescue" for three months and it was a life changing experience like you said. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity. And the best part is, that we adopted Bobby. I have seen him in your video and almost cried. Thank you again and I wish you all the best!!! ❤
