of leap day begins over 2,000 years ago with the introduction
of the Julian calendar in 45 BC by none other than Julius Caesar you see the Roman Calendar was
a mess before Caesar stepped in it had only 355 days which caused seasonal drift Caesar with
the help of an alexandrian astronomer introduced a new calendar system adding an extra day every
four years to align the calendar with the solar year thus leap day was born however this system
was not perfect as it overestimated the length of t
he solar year by around 11 minutes fast forward
to the 16th century Pope Gregory I 13th saw a need for refinement his team of astronomers and
mathematicians found that Easter which was supposed to fall on the first Sunday after the
first full moon following the vernal equinox was drifting away from its prescribed date so in 1582
they introduced a new calendar system now known as the Gregorian calendar this new system omitted
three leap Days Every 400 years providing a more accurate alignmen
