So today we're going to look at ad unravel a  very difficult performance from an anime that actually I personally watched too so it does hit  home for sure I do love the original I have been planning to react to the TK's version on the  first s for some time now we're just resolving some uh copyright issues with that one but I'm  looking forward looking at that as well let me know if you would like me to check it out too  but today we're going to look and uh finally enjoy ad's version of this so
ng this song is very  performative we know that Ado can do that she's a master of performance at the end of the day  but I'm so excited to see how she balanced it it's going to be heart-wrenching it's going to be  emotional so I'm exide excited to hear that and we're going to look at her studio recording  and on the live version because on the last live that I reacted um you guys really wanted  me to see the original one I reacted to show you were quite disappointed that I didn't see  the origin
al the studio recording as well so I decided I'm going to do both so let's get  into it we're going to start with a studio [Music] version [Music] look at it impact on the last tone there  so we've got a lot of Airy introduction it's almost but she's doing that Airy  feeling not in a very released way not in that way she's almost if  you do want to scream and yell but you have have to restrict  yourself into the very stressed whisper so it's almost like screaming but  in a very quiet way so it's
not a relaxed nice sweet little whisper  there's a lot of tension in it [Music] and the tremble Ed as well it's insane how you can build up in  atmosphere through something so simple as almost whispered [Music] singing she's getting  a little bit more and the last time was playan just to get you that soft and strong [Music]  [Applause] [Music] in when I heard I heard just an introduction to this song by Ado I was  really surprised that she decided to cover the whole intro in this kind of like U
very whispery  style I am planning on covering this song as well so I'm trying not to not to ingrain her version  in my brain Tod because I know I will be then tempted to do something similar and I want  to do my version but it is if you heard TK sing this song as well it's very important to  have a very soft introduction but you don't want it to get romantic you don't want it to  get sweet you have to have a really stressed panicky very painful kind of approach into that  almost heal whisper a
lot of air a lot of almost restricted whisper just so you introduce the  atmosphere but it has to be small so you can create a huge massive contrast and it's about  to come it's it's about to hit us very soon [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] so notoriously first chorus does not use that  much of a texture she used a little bit of it I'm just actually now really flabbergasted  because in my head I'm remembering um the TK version and it's really interesting how  similar th
eir Styles actually are the flips into the belts the very uncontrolled like  really released pressure in those higher spaces that is so brave because it feels  like it's going to crumble any moment but they have it really safely under control uh she  is very standardly based on her technique that she usually does have use tons of vocal flips  but uh again still pacing herself still pacing [Music] herself [Music] [Music] yes nice [Music] all right we have inter inter there so I can in  in TR ther
e for a second if you know the song you knew what was coming I knew she's going to nail it  I actually really love that she made a pre-build up to that with a tiny bit of like more of a dry  fry there just so she can get a really deep grow and like wet wet fry to that big punch that comes  in that song really interesting choice because most singers do really go still very small before  they give you dead attack and she started to build up in advance which I like because still she was  able to cr
eate a huge difference there uh the pre-build up was more on a clean side with more of  a dry texture and in that big big big punch with got more moist texture so that grow that really  nice wet fry but it was coming from the heart right there that was coming from the [Applause]  [Music] heart I love this version [Music] too look how he's she's utilizing her she doesn't have to breathe after every  short phrase there that she wants you to feel like she's being literally almost chased like  she i
s making you feel like a chased animal it's incredible you [Music] [Music] like I love how she's crashing on  the last tone of that CH she's crashing on such a pretty clean tone she's on purpose making  that tone very pretty because after all of that just texture and all of that monstrosity  of the sound that she creates which is incredible she ends up on that beautiful  tone just to completely break your heart [Music] there you hear the last [Applause] [Music] tone that  climb down is really di
fficult you are constantly fluctuating  and climbing down from that head voice you're working constantly  around your vocal break so up in a head voice and break vocal break and  crashing into your chest right there [Music] [Music] [Applause] super oh I'm sorry this song just makes so [Music] [Music] emotional o damn damn d That's a good version of that's a  incredible version of unravel unravel requires such an energy to be put and detail to be put in  dramaturgy of that song like an inner dram
aturgy of that song and Ado in general is really good at  her vocal ARA like she knows what she's doing she knows how to do that um she's going to take  even the simplest song which unrev is not a simple song but she can take the simplest song  and still via her vocal ARA create multi-layered a very multi-dimensional piece so when I when  I heard that she's going to cover unrel I knew that we're going to get like a whole Orchestra of  things put in and I mean we're not disappointed but the first
gr the first punch of that uh  that was insane that was beautiful and I know that she she put everything into it when she  was recording that like you could hear the pure pain that was coming straight from that  heart what we're going to be expecting on the life performance is how is all of this going to  adapt to life sound how especially the repetitive Parts you have to manage your air very well  there uh and yeah we're going to see how that big tone that big girl there is going to translate
into live version I'm excited let's go and see it so very soft [Music] [Music] [Music] beginning she's actually going with much  cleaner tone in here so in the recording but in a recording in a studio recording you can go into  much softer sounds like the microphone is still going to pick it up it's going to translate  well into the recording so like this effect of that suffocating kind of whisper would  be really difficult to translate into life performance like this it's a huge Arena you  hav
e to give that tone some substance so it translates a little bit more out so some  effects are cool to make in a studio and a little bit more difficult to translate it into  the life [Music] stage God I love that song so [Music] much I [Music] listen how she leaned into the she rolled it at  R so she can get the texture in it so [Music] beautifully this was a part where wasn't in the  studio she went to which is one of her favorite sounds to do so she is kind of  exchanging here it a little bit
it's fun to hear beautiful I've talked to a lot of people  about [ __ ] uh vocal flips I want to do a separate video about [ __ ] singing style so  let me know if you would guys be interested in something like that but um those flips  are helping her to Anchor her Bel so a lot of people think that those are kind of like  an additional weight on her singing style but no it's actually helping her to sing  the way she does so she can get wider and more Brave sound out of that than the very  stylize
d precise jumping into the [Applause] [Music] tone [Music] beautiful but you can tell that she  was prepping for that big one way in advance I was actually slightly worried because she was  pretty much running out of the air there it can you can hear the right before the repetition  the you can hear her already trying to get as much air in as possible like just with a  tiny air hiccups just refill refill that cup so she has that energy for the big one  that was insane Dar it translated [Music] b
eautifully wow [Music] Dam she did it there so I'm going to replay  don't worry but she did those little hiccups she actually made them over  even more overe exaggerated in this version good the last beautiful tone was definitely there  she I'm I I'm suffocating with her the way this song drains you of any air is insane oh my God you  can see that she's trying to refill refill refill as much as she can she actually put more texture  here than in the recording in the studio recording because the
texture can actually save you quite  a lot of air parter what probably you would think the idea of descending from that head  voice into such a heavy texture is so cool honestly how it's actually kind of  pity that she didn't do it in a studio recording I would love to see it in  a studio recording because that was such a cool stylization there and then  into that heavy texture on the bottom damn that's such a brilliant idea oh my  God I'm so happy I love this s of [Music] her oh good you only m
ade me cry once there's  a very simple reason why with the second one I was literally not breathing with her this  is what I do with my students as well when they're performing I'm literally breathing with  an artist so for the second one I was just like oh breath here o breath here just sneak it  in because we're running out of it for sure gorgeous performance you could tell that she was  in certain parts she was really coping with the lack of air and with the pressure of the song  the pressure
of the song is insane she's not an artist or performer to crumble you can tell  that about ad she won't crumble but even this song was like really pressing her too the very  very edge uh but her technique was saving her there quite a lot the flips were very prominent  per usual and uh the way she's capable of moving around her pager with her vocal Break um and  of course the insane texture like her girls and her wet fry is really something that she's at  home which is something that you need to
have for this song for example me I'm a very clean singer  I've been raised classically so texture is still qu I have still quite a lot of mental block from  texture but I'm working on it because I do want to cover that song and I do not want to let you  guys down and sing it like in a very clean like a good girl away so I'm going to try my best  to really bring out that texture in my voice but again if you are used to that as a singer  it's just such a blessing because you can see that actuall
y in very often she was relying  on it instead of being scared of it she was relying of it on it gorgeous I am so happy she  covered that uh that is such a unique song and it such I have such a strong relationship to that  song there was a time where I literally couldn't listen to that song without without without  crying fullblown crying until this day it's just it's a very special song to me it's a very  special anime to me as well so so when I hear that someone's going to cover that I'm like
oh please  just make it good make it good so thank you so much for recommending Ado I saw your comments  and uh yeah if you did enjoy this video please don't forget to subscribe right here here is the  video that YouTube actually recommends for you and here is a rest of my other reactions please stay  safe and healthy I'll see you next time bye-bye

@jangjangjangjong

Her live version made me cry 😭

@RaptureOnCloudNo.9

Yea, one of her best live performance to date. For anyone who don't know, TK's version of this song is the opening for Tokyo Ghoul, an anime which eventually the main character lost himself mentally. The lyrics was also about the main character's psyche breaking, losing himself, to a state where his real self cannot be seen, and eventually asking you, the listener, as someone (supposedly) who knew him, to not forget him. So, for people struggling with mental health, or even anger management, this is a very emotional and powerful song. To see Ado struggle with her breaths, and finally with a screw the breathing, here come's a fry and letting herself go and lose control, it is really poetic.

@user-ev2fd9kg3q

This song is one of the most impressive in the series of cover songs that Ado has done since before his debut. In the live version, Ado sings the song as if it were her own, and her talent overflows.

@thisisakoolname9927

Yes, I really want a video about her singing style. I'm ignorant of musical knowledge so it's really hard for me to truly appreciate what she put out. Your video would help me a ton.

@ioel902

After she released the song you were the first person i thought about. So happy to see you enjoyed her singing as much as i did.

@_ciuppa_

God the live version made me nearly cry, I could feel the emotions trought all the wispers and screams, it was so beautiful! I'm always so sad that I can't afford to go to her concerts in person!

@muboizin

A sign of great singers is how their live performances are so much better than their studio's versions. Ado is a great example. Her live performances are always so perfect and give new flavors to songs I already love.

@joshuafowler9405

Probably the best anime opening in my opinion, some may be more iconic but Ado’s rendition being damn near flawless shows why this song is so good, especially when you look at the lyrics and the original source material for Tokyo Ghoul

@johannaflowers_

I felt it so much when you almost started to cry haha, this song just hits home. i think ado's version is especially emotional, because without even understanding the words she's singing it just feels like she's laying bare a piece of her deepest inner self. also the live version is so beautifully imperfect and real, can't help but get teary eyed. plus the musicians are just absolute masters, this must've been an incredible experience to see live. now I'm really excited to hear your version! also i would absolutely love to see how you're learning to bring texture into your voice, i have the same problem with being way to clean!

@mitrikgaduk347

(17:45) Honestly, the live performance actually frightens me for reasons most might not think of. Personally, I've done unclean/screaming vocals, I've listened to these style of vocals in so many genres I've lost count (but obviously primarily found in various rock and metal genres). I can list more than a dozen vocalists, even those proficient in falsetto.. In the entire time I've listened to these style of vocals (15-16 years), I've never heard someone go from a falsetto to scream that many times in a row (at the speed she did). I honestly didn't think it was possible due to how difficult a process is like that. I'll be here for days explaining the lunacy of this. You have to have serious experience with both styles of vocals, be intimately acquainted with your voice, and the parts of your throat that projects these sounds. Accessing your true folds for mere moments before accessing your false folds and back again, you also can't do this in the same breath even if you tried because the moment you stop the falsetto, you have to breath again to scream. There are a LOT of vocalists who can do singing and screaming, many of them can flip between the two styles, but a lot of the times you'll find them struggle doing so in a live performance. Many of the times they'll have longer portions of singing or screaming to compensate. One could argue it's because they actually don't know what they are doing (a lot of them just say "I just scream" or some milktoast response, then years later either lose their voice or ability to scream, many of them have issues with their lungs or even throat/chord surgeries due to misuse). Ever since I've heard this, I'm still boggling my head around it.. But that's not JUST it.. There's also, THE REST OF ADO.. I'll continue to call it, she's an anomaly. She's going to be a monster if she isn't already, I can't imagine what she's going to be capable of in years from now.

@CatarinaRock

I WOULD TOTALLY LOVE that video abt ado's singing style. She's so interesting and so unique and in the way she uses her voice too. I never heard anything or anyone like her. I'm so in love with her voice ❤ I would be forever grateful for more ado content from you. Thank you for your amazing reactions🤗

@venerac2759

Omg, such an emotional song! 😭 Loved the comparison here, it was great to hear your take on the differences between studio and live.

@asc64642

Hey Kat!! Can't wait for your cover of this song!! I will be so hyped!! Also great reaction, I think that what I appreciate from Ado's live performance the most is how truthful she remained to the emotion in the lyrics, she really sounded desperate and sorrowful, mirroring the duality of a human being taken over by a monster, I think she transmitted that feeling better than most people who covers this song. Love your work since day 1! Hopefully I can be one of your students one day!

@user-so2fj4jl2k

やはり音楽は言語を超えるんやな。 本当にハイレベルな音楽は歌詞が理解できるかどうか関係なく感情に届くと思ったわ。 もちろん歌詞が分かれば尚素晴らしいと感じられるのは言うまでもない

@drakephysecron6775

We'd love to see your reaction and cover!!! Unravel is also really special for me, because it really is just that song where the musical arrangement hooks everyone and then its meaning especially in correlation with the story, drags you into the depths of your own emotions and stays there for the rest of your life. Love to see more content being made in relation to this song to this day.

@yamiRic

Ado's cover of Unravel is probably the best I ever listened to. It is almost like that song is made for her too. Both TK and Ado sang it differently.

@_alpacaa

Was waiting for your reaction I'm learning a lot from you❤ Ado is just insane and I love her

@touchme8425

So if you notice she's like dancing and throwing herself around in that cage the whole song , from that alone i wouldnt be able to speak let alone sing lol... + this was her 7th song out of 24 that concert... she is not human I swear Also great reaction , always a delight watching your videos :)

@mar_mar13

She just killed this song, and even more during live And goddamnt, I haven't enough words to say, how gorgeous and beautiful it is And good luck with cover!
