[Music] [Speaking indistinctly] Good thing I'm smarter than gravity But you're not better than gravity No, but I just outfooted gravity Okay this bird is gonna beĀ rich And last... the birdhouse! Besides of the 25 standingĀ
over there, this is the last bird house Let's go and get rid of it Do you want toĀ help with this Raven? Good contact, good box [Construction noise] [Music] [Construction noise] [Music] [Construction noise] We have one, two... four of those Okay Okay so last week I asked all o
fĀ
you beautiful people if you could come into Lincoln Park and put 10 feet stringsĀ
with different types of sticks and stones and driftwood and seats and feathers and naturalĀ
found objects like that on them and then I would come into Lincoln Park and then transport themĀ
out to the much secret locations here at Vashon Island when we're building the Burger King. Now, IĀ picked up all the stuff and I'm hanging it here because I need to untangle all the sticksĀ
because obviously, they tangle quite
a lot We have this beauty here, greetings to Oscar the Bird King [Music] Oh, I missed Xavier. He wouldĀ
have been perfect for this test [Music] Well, are you good at this kind of stuff? Nope! Just hang it like thisĀ
here. That'll be the first one [Construction noise] That looks nice [Construction noise] [Speaking indistinctly] [Car noise] Okay everybody, now it's 2 o'clock and we still have a coupleĀ of things, so I think it's important that we all just push for the last couple ofĀ
things so we
get it done and finished um, I think that William and Santi
should continue on the beard But I think they shouldn't go down. I thinkĀ
they should more like go a little bit outĀ Ā also If you have a beard that goes straightĀ
down, there probably your mustache here on the sides it's gonna go a little bit outĀ
but in the front it's gonna go straight down [Music] [Construction noise] -It looks super good, right?
- Yeah, it looks great [Construction noise] [Music] [Noise] A little bit left, left! Okay
This one is called Oscar the Bird King.Ā
The fairy tale is about Oscar he swims across the ocean from a little island andĀ
then he comes to a little bigger island ... the United States, and then he walks across theĀ
the islands up over the mountains and then in the end, he comes here and then he becomesĀ
the Bird King himself because he took a lot of responsibility so now he's asking everybody elseĀ
"Take responsibility!" Home for this one is like this: "He swam here from the island whereĀ
his
mother once has birthed him he walked across the mountains till his giantĀ
feet start hurting, he spoke a crow, a little girl, the orcas heard him sing
he used to beĀ a little troll,
now Oscar is the Bird King [People clapping] - Backside
- Yeah, the back - Perfect man! That's it!
- Nailed it, screwed it, sent it [City traffic] So what we're trying to do hereĀ
is basically to make the sculpture seem like it walked into this cityscape here and the plazaĀ
in front of the museum and is destroying
it but we have a concrete footing for the sculptureĀ
because the sculpture is like 20, feet seven metersĀ tall so we created this round flower bed hereĀ
that imitates the round shape of that flower bed and the other ones over here and thenĀ
we're trying to steal some of the plants from the other flower beds and put them in thisĀ
flower bed and take some of the wood chips from the other flower beds and put them here andĀ
put the imitated bench that we have broken but imitated the other ones so we
're trying toĀ
bring everything together here to make it look like the troll just walked in in what wasĀ
already here and then stumped on the bench [City noise] Here's a good stealing spot That's probably gonna need quite three times [Speaking indistinctly] All we do is the slate last and weĀ
would trip and then we sleep [Speaking indistinctly] Super nice just to be hustling on theĀ
deadline and see everybody... all the ants doing each their little specific jobĀ
here and then, yeah, what is the
the last, uh, the last thing of the day hereĀ
before this Frankie Feetsplinter is done Jacob, William, Bardur, Viktor, Ema, Alexa, Santiago, Matthew, Raven and Niels,Ā
Sebastian and myself thank you so much for being a part of this lovely road trip. For theĀ
last recalculated we started exactly 98 days ago Tomorrow's 99 it's because youĀ
suckers leave on 99. I stay until I'm 100. Anyway, I just want to say thank you all soĀ
very very much for making this dream of mine come together with 10 beaut
iful sculptures umĀ
14 beautiful blocks and a great, great time so thank you I think this one is worthy of beingĀ
the last one we finish. It's called Frankly Feetsplinter and thank you so much and of course there'sĀ
no pupil party without 12 beers, two six-packs for the crew [Speaking indistinctly] [City noise] It's now been exactly 100 days since we startedĀ
building the first sculpture in Hainesport, New Jersey It definitely has been anĀ
adventurous road trip and has been really reallyĀ nice 7
art talks all sold out. NobodyĀ
got hurt, no traffic accidents, all the sculptures finished onĀ
deadline. I think I did 75 interviews Two of the interviews on National NPR MorningĀ
Edition and CBS Sunday morning. So that's pretty big for a little guy who just used to bike aroundĀ
Copenhagen. The dumpster diving has now made it Just like we're on a road and of courseĀ
also feels a little bit empty today the whole crew left yesterday. My manager just toldĀ me we got nine submission forms last week
from the serious offers for building trolls in theĀ
United States alone. So definitely we are busy I believe we have some somewhat 12 sculpturesĀ
next year in the United States scheduled already Um, yeah, my new big goal is to do one in eachĀ
state all over the United States and so that's my new big goal. I am hoping to realize that by '27.
I think that should be doable. Definitely,Ā thank you, big thanks and a big hug to the wholeĀ
crew. This would never have been possible without William and Vi
ctor and Jacob and SantiagoĀ
and Bardur and Xavier and Seba and Leilani Camilo, Raven and Matt, Julian, Lisa, Fanny andĀ
Nils and Emma, my wife Alexa and of courseĀ myself And also a big thank you to the almostĀ
1 000 volunteers that helped create all of this and everybody back home such a big crew by nowĀ
can't believe it 26 people working full-time we've now made 125 sculptures in 17 countries all overĀ the world. That is beyond my wildest dream when I dreamed about one day becoming a profession
alĀ
artist one day in the future. That dream only stretched to supporting myself and myĀ
bicycle you know and now we just drove the roller coaster, 6 000 miles across the UnitedĀ
States, built 10 sculptures in a hundred days [Music]

Today I met Frankie and I loved it, I also know the one in Issaqua, I hope to soon be able to meet all the ones in Washington. Thank you, thank you for these beautiful gifts that you have made with so much love and dedication and also thank you to everyone who has helped.
So awesome how he creates these
Sad to see this end, Thomas...but...you'll be back. Love the Bird King's message: Time to take responsibility! Have you ever met Peter Schumann of The Bread and Puppet Theatre in Glover, Vermont?...you two seem to have the same soul--same face, even...I hope you'll check out his work. Thanks for the sculptures and the documentary videos.
For next year consider Kankakee Sands, The nature Conservancy in Indiana. They are/ have restored prairies and Bison. Love what you do!
Iāll be heading up to the Pacific Northwest in a couple of weeks and will be attempting to see all six! Perfect timing and Iām very excited to see their epicness in person! šš»šš»šš»
Iāve only visited one of your sculptures so far (Pia on Bainbridge Island) but plan to visit as many as I can. I was so filled with JOY and AWE standing near Pia in Sakai Park. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your vision and dedication. Magnificent sculptures.
What a trip! I'm seriously impressed how well you guys were able to stick to the timeline while covering so much ground. I've got a place here in Massachusetts that is excited about adding a troll to their garden, hopefully they'll contact you soon if they haven't already. Thanks again for letting us join you up in Vermont!
