Sunday Builds

So coming up you're going to see some  tools that are brought back from the US. A little shopping trip to Lowe's out in the  US which is basically a big version of B&Q, a lot more exciting and interesting tools.  Also got a few tools from online in the US, which I've also brought back. So stay tuned to  see what I've got and it also involved sawing something to get in the suitcase. So if that's  not a a hook to stay and watch the rest of the video I don't know what is. So a few from one of  my f
avourite brands woodpeckers which do kind of like high precision woodworking measuring tools,  router lifts and things like that. So see what we got. So we got two things in here. First is  the Woodpeckers Engle angle mini. This is one actually made from aluminium, aircraft  grade aluminium as they like to say they use. So this one essentially is for, look  at this, it is for bisecting an internal angle. So if you're doing anything, in fact just  come show you over here. So if you do anything, l
ike if you want to do a piece of skirting in  here so that basically sets the angle and you can tighten that. So whilst most of these  angles obviously should be 90°. This could be slightly off, maybe it's 80, maybe it's 85°  so that's locked and if I just grab a piece of wood so I could now rest that in here, make a pencil line. And then that  whatever angle that is I can then just take that to my mitre saw, line it up with the  light or laser line if you have one. And then you've got a perfect
mitre for whatever angle  it needs to be. So that's the handy tool. They also do a larger one of these, I wanted to  get a smaller one. So that's that one. Then the next one is the Woodpeckers, they call  this the Dead Nutz Square. Nutz with a zed. So this is made from a single piece. This one is  stainless steel actually. So it's quite weighty and this is probably more expensive than you  think. But this because they this is one of their very specific precision made machines. So  the tolerance
is absolutely bang on. So this is handy if you're wanting to, for example,  if I let's lift this table saw blade up. So if I wanted to make sure that this is  absolutely square it's perfect for doing that or if I was calibrating the mitre saw,  anything really. Or when I was making some of the Shaker draw fronts I could have used  it just to check the alignment. And you also see actually it's beveled on the end of it. And  that is so when you've got it on here there could obviously be bits of r
aise. It's just to give the  smallest surface area to make sure that you are getting the most accurate layout point. So next  we have got the Woodpeckers precision triangle set. Now this one, often a lot of the  Woodpeckers tools come mounted in the MDF box and they have a little rotating thing  to get out. So we can hang that on the wall if you really want. That's how that works. So  again, I think this this one is aluminium and you can hold it together with these nuts  but I'll just take these
off in there to show you it. Now a lot of the woodpeckers tools  because it is a US brand predominantly they are in imperial they do metric versions of  most things. This one they don't actually so this one is inches only but the reason I got  this one and these are a lot cheaper because they're thinner in aluminium compared to this  one. But a lot of the squares or right angles that I have have a shoulder on it. So I will  just give you an example of one, into my square box. So as an example t
he Woodworker Square  you can see that this has got a thicker shoulder on it. Same as the Stanley one, a cheaper one  there. But this one is universal thickness all the way round. So what allows you to do if  you need this to rest flat potentially when if you're checking if something is square on  this it's always rocking about a bit whereas this is perfectly flat all around. So it's quite  useful if you want to have a nice flat surface. So I'll predominantly be using this to check  angles when
I'm making things like Shaker draw fronts or Shaker doors anything like that. Then  next up, what have we got here then. Can't even remember what this one is. This is a stainless  steel square. Now you can never have too many squares. Don't ask how many squares I've  got. So this is the Woodpecker's Precision Woodworking Square. The stainless steel version.  They do an aluminium one but the aluminium has a lot thicker blade. It's probably actually  similar thickness to that one. Whereas if I jus
t get this out because it is stainless  steel, a lot harder wearing. You can see this is a nice thin blade which makes it easier to  do pencil marks and things. Whereas if you've got a thicker blade it's a bit harder to get in.  So this is actually the second one I've got in this series so this is a 300mm. I've already got  150mm one which is slightly scaled down version but I do prefer having different length  of squares depending on what I'm doing. So this is their 300mm version, nice and weig
hty.  So I'll probably be using this quite a lot. And similar to the other woodworking squares that  Woodpeckers do, you can see it's got indentations every millimeter in here. Which I think a lot of  people have started coping now. I think Woodpecker started to do it first but essentially it allows  you if you want to make a mark say 274mm. I just locate a pencil in here and then I can drag it  along like that. So that's quite handy to do. And then this comes in a nice little display case  so m
ight hang that up I might put that away. One day when I have a giant workshop all these will  be proudly displayed on the wall but for now they will just be hidden, hidden in the drawer. So  that's that one. Are you laughing, you laughing there behind the camera? So next up, this one  as you can see is not a small box and it's also not light which I had to carry this back in a  suitcase such as my dedication to get expensive tools affordably because this probably would have  cost. So Woodpeckers
do ship actually worldwide this I think had a quote of $150 to ship it alone  so not cheap. So instead I managed to get in my suitcase and just fit into the weight limit. So  what we've got here is the Align-A-Saw system. Now this is probably not super necessary for most  saws but well not for most uses of table saws should I say. So what we've got here, now this  is made out of stainless steel it's actually pretty thick stainless steel. That looks to me  at least 8mm. That is pretty weighty th
is is probably about 5 kg on its own. So what this  allows you to do, if I just come over to the table saw. So what this system does is allow you  to get precision calibration with your table saw. Could be a little job site saw or could be a big  high-end saw but when you are aligning the blade. So while this blade could be perfectly square a  lot of the time when you're cutting stuff you are riding something in the fence so you're riding in  the fence or you're using the mitre bar slot here whi
ch is the key one. So in order for you to cut  something square with a mitre bar slot your saw blade has to be parallel to this. And you can  adjust that and calibrate that, it can change and loosen over time or even when the factory  supply it's not necessarily perfectly square. But basically there's some screws in most table  saws which loosen this and effectively allow you to move the blade that way to line up with your  groove. So if you use a little gauge like this it will tell you the meas
urement here and then you  need to spin it all the way over here and check that you've got the same measurement here. Now  to do that you kind of have to mark which tooth you're using the blade and then move it across  there to make sure you get the same blade because blades can often have slight waviness in them.  Now when it's actually running that doesn't matter but when it's stationary it does. Now what this  simple tool does is basically you can take out this blade and put in this flat grou
nd piece of  stainless steel. Which then makes it much easier for you to then take your measurements because you've got flat piece of steel rather than a blade which can have some imperfections in  it. So a bit overkill but they don't sell it here in the UK. I would definitely see this  as a long-term purchase for when I get bigger saws in the future. Oh and the other thing I  has also is its own little tool to check for square as well so you can slot that into your  mitre gauge and then another
way for you to check if your table saw blade is square. There  we go the Align-A-Saw system. So next up we have got the JessEm Clear Cut Table Saw accessory.  Now this was also an ordeal to get back in the suitcase. So this comes with a big long extruded  piece of aluminium which originally was this long. Which is too big to get in a suitcase.  So what meant is I had to get a hacksaw and cut the end of it off. Which I did while in the US before putting this in my suitcase. I just did that in th
e hotel so that's fine. So what this in  fact it if let me show you on the router table first. So if you've watched our series on shaker draw fronts you have seen me mention this tool as well so this is the JessEm clearcut for router table which is these rollers here. So put your piece of thickness under give it a squeeze and then tighten it and what this does these have basically that 5° angle which allows  the material to basically kept forced into the fence so that you not the speed of the ro
uter isn't  going to bring it out to make sure you get a nice perfect cut. So this is what I've bought now is the table saw version of this. So it's a bit more elaborate but similar concept. So this is the table saw version that JessEm make. As I said similar concept to what it's trying to do which is to keep pressure on your material while directing it into the fence this time for the table saw. So these are a bit more bigger and heavy duty. So we get two of these. Now what I haven't decided ye
t is how I'm actually going to use this future video coming I'll show  you a fence that I'm thinking of getting for tables saw to use these but essentially this bar would mount on your fence the table saw. So bigger cabinet kind of table saws have a better way of doing this and a bit more of a beefier fence this is a job site table saw  so to do this I'd probably need to mount a piece of wood in here to screw this on. Or get a  separate fence which I can clamp on. So I haven't quite decided on t
hat yet so so either just quickly show you this. So essentially lets loosen this. Okay so let's come over to the table  saw so the idea is that we'll find a way to mount this to the fence, either by securing this piece of aluminium potentially by sandwiching a bit of wood in here or like I said I may  buy another fence that I can clamp to this which already has a t- bar slot in. So perhaps in the future this might just ride something like that if I get a fence to attach to  that. So for now let
me just put that back in. So what this then allows you to do, lets balance that there, is this arm can then rest on your material so use this piece of architrave I've got spare. Similar concepts the router one, rest it down give it a bit of a squeeze so it's good pressure. And again if you look and on you can see that this wheel has a kind of 5° angle into it. So as we come to feed the material in that will naturally keep it going in towards the fence. So it should get (A) helps you with safet
y but (B) make sure that that material has been directed in the fence. And also stops kickback because this material is nicely clamped with a bit of pressure and you get two of these so the idea is you'd have one bit further down here. And one at the front so the combination of this aligning it effectively, should allow you to make a job site what this is; a job site table saw. There's no reason you can't turn a smaller job site table saw into a precision woodworking machine. So got a few more s
mall items in a bag down here so let's bring them out see what we've got. First up is a new narrower push stick with a foam end. This  predominantly will be used for the table saw but it's a bit more sturdy and this foam is also replaceable. So if it does get nicked rather than it damaging some plastic you can actually replace this bit of foam. So compare it to the one that comes with typically with most table saws it's a lot cheaper and if you get any damage or nicks in this you can't really re
place this. So this one basically if I'm cutting narrow cuts it helps me feed it in. So this is from Bow products. So yeh, nice little small push stick for the table saw. Will find out which one is most useful when I come to do it. And  again another safety tool, this is a push block. I've got a couple of the other micro jigs ones. I've got one of the slightly bigger ones which is a bit more complex. This is a more of a basic one, so, if you're feeding a bigger sheet material through on the tabl
e saw good pressure on that to help you get that through. So I've got a few different ones these in different sizes. Now they are used for slightly different use cases but this is the micro jig one and it what is actually also unique about this one it has got these little retractable legs on here. So it does allow you to catch often if you're just using it like this. You can see the grip pressure on that but with this one it then has got the little legs that get down. So it's also catching the e
nd of  the material as well as getting pressure on it which is quite useful I haven't actually seen any of the push blocks to do that which is why I got this one. So just give you a couple of and  obviously they just come back up if you do in the middle or pop back down at the end. So that is  quite an innovative feature of this one. And other thing I got a lot of these tools are actually been about safety rather than just toys. So that's about safety. Next up is some headphones that I got. So I
've been trying to look for some more useful headphones to make sure I use them better or earplugs specifically. But these are also headphones. So this is on a little neck band and they're also retractable so you can pull it out then it's got a little button to put them back in when you're not using it. But basically quick access for your headphones and these are properly you can get similar versions. I think even DeWalt do a version but randomly even  though DeWalt do them they aren't actually
properly rated for hearing protection from Power Tools. So which is a bit odd. What brand are they these are Walkers. So that's that. Then next up we've got  this is by FastCap is the brand. And we'll put a link of all these below. But I think this one is called like the fourth finger or magic finger or something but this one is predominantly for using on the Mitre saw. So if you're cutting a narrow bit of timber. Let me show you something over here.  So if you got something quite small rather t
han having your hand quite close in here which can  be a little bit dangerous, this basically allows you to hold it tight without getting your finger in. So it nicely clamps it in. It's got some rubber little feet on it as well and allows you to cut something relatively small quite safely. So next up from FastCap again actually, is the Speed Roller. So what this helps with it's looking there got different wheels two rubber wheels, two steel wheels, okay. So this has got the steel wheels fitted s
o if you're doing some edge banding which I do occasionally do. So for example this is just a narrow piece of MDF but if you were Edge banding  this just the regular kind of glue on edge bending once you've glued it on ideally you should then  follow it with some pressure to make sure that as that glue sets it's getting good pressure on  it so it's basically a roller to do to roll the edge banding once you've set it with the eye and  it's just setting you can get good pressure on so that'll be q
uite useful I've had occasionally  issues where it has bubbled up where I haven't had the right pressure just from the in itself and  accordance back of this these steel wheels are for maximum maximum pressure and this is for medium  pressure so the next one we got is from Fast cap again fastap mag shims this is only a few dollars  this one I think but this basically is a magnetic way of shimming things so you've basically got a  1 mil shim and then a bunch of two mil shims all of which these ha
ve got magnets so it does allow  you quite neatly to so here's a 2 mil four 4 mil that's also nicely stacked together six 8 10 12  13 so this Stacks up to 14 mm and because you've got the one mill you can do that in 1 M incr so  it is quite handy depending on what you're doing you could use it for scribing you could use it  to set the table saw height or router bit height and if you've got a steel table it allows you  to do that without it moving so not quite sure exactly what I used this for ye
t but I did F see  it and thought that could be quite handy for some different uses potentially if you're scribing  as well you could maybe if you wanted to do a full mle scribe and then you could line that up  with your pencil line so I suspect that will be something that I find quite handy but I don't  know what I'll use it for yet we're just about at the end now we got a bunch of I don't know  why this was cheaper in the US but a bunch of woodworking tapes this is double-sided tape which  oft
en you use for if you want kind of temporarily stick stick some Timber together maybe if you're  doing some patent trimming at the router table. So it's very strong but equally you can get it off with a scraper. And then one more thing which and thankfully I did need a new one of these. But this is the hack saw that bought to cut the fore mentioned piece of metal on the JessEm Router Guides.  So now I've got a new hacksaw. So there we go. That's everything I've brought back. So if you've got any
questions about any of these tools put it in the comment below. We'll put links to all of these tools where you can get them in the US. A lot of these you can get in the UK. So we'll also put the links to the UK versions below and look out for future videos as well. I'm sure I'll be buying some more tools. I do like tools as and when I can get them. So look out for future videos and please yeah like comment and subscribe. A whole suitcase for one longterm tool...  oh yeah you have to build up
your Workshop.
