and thank you so much there is an event coming up that's looking to emphasize what it means and what it truly takes to Center communities and nonprofit philanthropic work the SC nonprofit Summit is coming to Charleston and it's something that servant leaders may want to take advantage of here to talk with us about it today is Dr sha Edwards a co-chair for together SC thank you for being here with us thank you for inviting me and thank you for shining this attention on nonprofits and uh your even
t is promising to be a resource for those who run nonprofits or who maybe are thinking about it absolutely and so we've partnered with Dominion Energy who is our sponsor this year to bring the nonprofit Summit to Charleston um we're really looking and expecting to have 50 plus sessions where folks can learn and grow and engage around the work of running a nonprofit it's rewarding work but it's not easy work I understand absolutely it's not easy at all however these folks who work in nonprofits t
hey they work really hard and they really want to push forth their mission but it's important for us to stress that these nonprofits center community in the work that they're doing you can have a mission and you can have a vision for what you want to accomplish but if one or two other things aren't in place it makes it hard to push that Vision forward absolutely if you don't have the infrastructure if you don't have the money then that's a problem and these sessions are going to help folks reall
y think about the infrastructure think about fundraising and think about Partnerships that would be valuable to the work that they're trying to trying to do all right and tell me more about those learning uh modules uh what will they be learning you mentioned some of them uh go into a little bit more detail with that sure I I'd like to highlight our plenary sessions and so the the plenary sessions we have Dr Drew Lam who's going to talk about the connection between social environment social work
and environment and really focus with an emphasis on justice as well as um Dr Pastor who's going to come in and really help us understand solidarity economics and and the importance of the mission of nonprofits and connection with our Economic Development within our state he's really going to have an emphasis on South Carolina and then lastly we have a panel of local leaders who will share with us their experiences in working with nonprofits and really share with the nonprofits what they need i
n order to help reinforce the work that they're trying to do in community how readily available is that information out there for for people to access or do you have to be in a silo or in a network to kind of find out some of the things you need for your nonprofit organization sure a lot of the information is available through together se's website they are the ones who host the South Carolina nonprofit Summit and so those who are interested in starting a nonprofit or who are working working a n
onprofit that need additional help together is the place to go for support and with this Summit uh what are the costs involved with attending sure the pricing is is nominal it's it's not a lot because we know that the nonprofits are they're nonprofits right and so they want to spend a lot of their money on focusing in on their mission and so it usually runs about $250 $300 for a person to attend and then there are things that they can add on like uh pre-summit workshops or um tours that we're ha
