Video shows confrontations between China and Philippines in South China Sea

China’s determination to assert its disputed sovereignty over the entirety of the vast South China Sea has sparked increasing clashes with its neighbors in recent years, particularly the Philippines. CNN’s Ivan Watson joined the Philippine Coast Guard for two days, the first time foreign journalists have been allowed to embed with the fleet in decades. CNN’s Erin Burnett discusses with Seth Jones, Vice President of the Center for Strategic and International Studies. #CNN #News

@dctr5534

This is clearly an assault within the Philippine waters

@johnnguyen699

Someone should rename the "South China Sea" to "Asian Sea" If we keep calling it "South China Sea" then they think the whole damn sea belongs to them.... 😲

@stevenhenry5267

Chinese fishing boats are a worldwide blight.

@clydecash5659

Just another day of China being China.

@snowissj

Bullying neighbors and then upset when they ask America for help.

@peacefralljjj6883

We love you Philippines 🇵🇭! We will always have your back. Love from a girl in NY State. 🇺🇸

@docecoco

this is not confrontation, this is an attack!

@Joppi1992

So, according to this video, things haven't gone wrong already? Adding further lines in their maps, expanding so far as to even send fishing fleets all the way to Australia because their own waters are fished out because they don't understand the concept of natural balance (which is ironic cuz of yinyang), sending direct threats that Taiwan will be "reunified" with the mainland by 2027 as in meaning it'll happen either with or without the consent of the Taiwanese people, and the constant increase in the cheapest and worst power plants known to mankind which has made it a country with A THIRD of the world's greenhouse gas emissions? So that isn't wrong, eh? Yeah ok, "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" sure seems to be the mantra until it reaches the point where it gets all up in your face about it.

@zekogishin9753

The Philippines should buy the Ukrainian Magura drone boats, they will make easy work of the Chinese ships.

@AaJim1517

It wasn't a confrontation it was an attack by the Chinese ship

@megafauna8374

There's been a big ASEAN conference in Melbourne. Australia urged the other leaders to condemn China over this in the concluding statement. Only the Philippines agreed, the other 9 leaders wimped out.

@samhavoc1066

Maybe the Chinese "coast guard" should actually stick to its coast? Instead of invading other nation's coasts?

@cecilelaforce3686

Wiki says this has been going on since 2021. Second Thomas Shoal is under dispute for claim by Philippines, China, Brunei, Malaysia and Viet Nam. However, according to UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on Laws of the Seas), the Shoal is well within Philippines UNCLOS "Exclusive Economic Zone" definition of 200 nautical miles. Not true for any of the other countries. So, only Philippines can claim it. UNCLOS was ratified by all parties in question. Therefore, China is not abiding by the UNCLOS convention they themselves are party to.

Building munitions at this fast rate without expecting for a war is very unlikely.

@leonardoreyes946

This is freaking unbelievable!... This is within the philippines exclusive economic zone. Now some of our soldiers are injured.... This makes blood boil to the maximum level. 😮

@user-pe8hf5mp5g

The Chinese were the aggressors, clearly. Yet they talk about law and order, rule of law and all that gibberish! Shame on the bully!

@MrPetermc199

Why are our stuff still made in china?

@coffee.170

Goodness gracious, I’m so glad this situation is getting more attention now. As someone who has both Chinese and Filipino heritage, this truly breaks my heart to see my home countries arguing. :(

@jessemurray1265

I am glad we are testing our own hypersonic technology this week.
