Cathy's Garden

hi best buds it's Kathy with Kathy's garden and I'm so happy that you've joined me today today we're going to be working with vintage style window Pockets recycled envelopes get those pieces of junk mail out we've got something really great to make with them but first let's have a shout out to Gerald Christine Susie's Journal adventures and Sher I appreciate each and every one of you aren't these adorable I don't know which one I like best let's take a closer look they're made with our junk mail
and they are top loading Pockets with the cutest little closures and inside you can pop in whatever that you desire now the way that you can use these in your junk Journal is you can simply pop it into a pocket or a belly band or you could put a hinge on it and you could hinge it out or you could engine this way either way will work just put a little strip of paper fold it the long ways glue it on one side glue the other side onto your journal page and there you go a wonderful flip I don't know
which one I like better oh I think they're all beautiful I'm kind of partial to this green one I don't know but I do love them let me show you how I've made these so you'll get your junk mail so I have two pieces of junk mail right here let me set these aside and let's just take one of them this one right here and my envelope to start with is 9 and 1/2 by 4 and my window is approximately 4 and 1/2 in Long I'm going to cut it on this side so the side that has doesn't have your envelope that you
have the most space to work with we're going to cut this envelope down to be 7 in so I'm just using my ruler here and I'm simply going to find my aha there it is find my pencil it was hiding and here we are we'll just simply cut this down just like this now I'm going to bring in my small little Guillotine and I'm just going to give it a chop just like that you can save these or you can pop them in the trash whichever you desire so now our envelope is open at the top and not at the bottom and it'
s not open at the sides because our envelope is completely still sealed what we want to do at this point in time is I'm bring that little ruler back and I want to bring my ruler down to about yeah I like to bring it down to about an inch and A4 and I'm going to just make a line right across one more time so it's just a little over an inch and what we want to do is actually I'm going to highlight this so you can see it just a little better I'm going highlight this side so you're going to want to
open your envelope up like this and you can see where I highlighted the folded area right here and this is my line right here that well you can't see that very well can you that I want to cut I want to cut the cross right there so I'm simply going to take my scissors and I'm going to cut that folded line just like that to my where I marked it the inch and a little smidget over I'm going to turn it on this side I'm going to do the exact same thing and I'm actually cutting let me finish cutting he
re I'll say the fold you know when something's folded I'm going to cut it on that side of the fold so there's not going to be any folded Ridge on the side that I leave on the back side cuz that's what this is and it folds down like this this is the back side this is what I'm going to call the front side with the window and this is the part that we're trimming off this part right here we're not trimming the back off we're going to need that for our flap so I have marked where I want to cut it I'm
simply going to be able to put my scissors in because we've cut a slice down both sides I'm going to get my scissors in here and I'm simply going to cut where I have marked that line right across is it going to come this probably going to have to snip it again it's still attached there we are so now you up with your junk mail looking like this we've got our back part and we've got the front part like this now let's decide on what we want to put inside I have a roxxy's creation Easter one of her
printables from Easter her Easter collection I should say and I'm kind of thinking I would like to pop this into the window and I'm going to just I want this side right here the bunny isn't going to show in the window if I do it this way and I don't want to chop my paper up too much because we're really going to use almost every bit of this paper and if I just take a chunk out of the center then I'm not going to have enough to finish covering my envelope so I want to take this section right her
e cuz that's going to be pretty this going to take about this part out for the window I think that'll be sweet I'm going to turn it over my image is right behind there and I'm simply going to mark my envelope like this and once again I'm going to need that ruler so let's grab that ruler and I'm going to actually take it down a little less than where I marked it I've marked it right here because it's going to slip into my envelope so hopefully it's going to slip in my envelope if I cut it right t
here I think I can just go ahead and use my scissors and trim this off all righty let's see how we did is it going to fit in nicely yes it's going to fit in wonderfully now sometimes it gets caught inside that envelope that's going to be beautiful I love that image in there now what I want to do is I want my image to be on I'm going to put it on do I want it on the front or the back if I glue it on the front it's going to always be that image no matter what you put into your envelope if you glue
it on the back it's going to show what you um what you put in your envelope through the window so I think what I'm going to do is I want my image to be permanently on my envelope so in the window permanently in the window so I'm simply going to add my glue like this so I'm gluing this to the front part of my window of my paper my envelope the front I'm gluing it right on so when I open this envelope it's going to be like that and it's not going to show so the next thing I want to do is I'm just
going to trim this off just like that and we're going to need to put something on the inside I've got another Roxy digital here it's a vintage letter and so once again I'm just going to turn it over to its side and I'm going to just Mark right here that's the size of the envelope and I'm going to take it down just a little shorter because I know I need to to be able to have it fit into the omope so how about if we cut it about right there hopefully that will be the size that we need for our env
elope and trimming it down all right bringing your envelope back and let's see if this pops right in yes it does now that's how we're going to cover our inside of our envelope so now I'm simply going to place a little bit of glue right here and I'm going to pop this into the back side of my envelope just like that so I'm going to need to add a little bit more glue to cover my flap well for some reason there we go it wasn't coming out all righty here we are gluing our flap down now you can either
just simply turn this over right where the it's kind of wet so it's hard to see I hard to B I mean I'm going to fold it like this first and then I'm going to bend it over this way just to make it easier now yes the writing is going to be upside down but what this does is it will strengthen our little flap right here so it's okay if it's upside down we're kind of collaging and so it's going to be on the back side and I'm going to Simply do this because it's going to strengthen my flap so just pu
tting it right on here like this and gluing it down came over just to smidge it over I'm going to trim it now there we go now as you can see there's not much covered right here there's a little sliver right here not covered and a tiny one over here that's okay we'll take care of that when we get to that part of the process it won't will not matter that that's like that let's go ahead and talk about caging on our envelope so I've got my pieces left and let's simply glue some of these pieces down
I'm thinking that is so beautiful on there do I want my bunny in the middle Bunny's really sweet or I really like that too what I would like to do is put a little strip of this writing in my front of my collage I'm going to turn this over and I can see that this is not straight this is the one I probably cut by hand and it's not straight so I'd like to clean this up a little bit and then let's just take a little section of this I don't want a large section just I'm looking at my grid or my marki
ngs on this side and I'm just going to cut that just like that so I have just a sliver a little piece of this beautiful Printing and I'd like to pop it right there onto my envelope so I think the best way for me to do that is to glue on to my strip and then add the glue where I need it if there's a spot that I missed so I'm just going to bring it all the way to the top and then just press it down how did I do on gluing oh I need a little bit on the bottom but that's okay all right we've got that
glued down let's give it a trim now the next thing that I'd like to do is bring this piece back in I think that would be gorgeous on here just like that so I am simply going to take my glue and add it to my envelope this time Bring It On down and just glue this area right here that I'd like to cover with my paper now you don't have to use digitals you could use book pages you could use paper pad paper you do not have to use digitals for this project oh I should have trimmed that better it's oka
y now let's go ahead and trim this now I probably should have done that a little better because now now I feel like I'm upside side down trimming we can get it done let's just trim this off first okay now let's just pop this in open this up a little bit more get our scissors in here there we go all right that's looking wonderful now let's see what shall we put on this side that's not quite long enough but oh that's nice there's so many options with this so many options I really like this part ri
ght here cuz it blends with this they're little forget me knots so I want to cut it right here at this line and then maybe at this line right there there's lines already on the paper and it will help me just cut this little piece out just like that and then pop it right on there yeah that's going to be gorgeous I'm looking at my book page that's going to fit nicely right there and then we can put another piece right on top maybe I want it to go like that that might be better if I put this down f
irst so let's just add our glue directly onto our envelope and then add our piece right here just like this I'm trying to make sure that I'm not oozing out glue at the top and accidentally gluing my envelope together now I'm just going to trim no actually it's right at the very top I can just fold this over I don't need to cut it off I can just fold it over there we go oh yes that's lovely let's pop this on right like this now I can make my window a little shorter or I could simply just do I wan
t this side or do I want this side I think I want this side I'm just going to add my glue right here and yes it's going to take my window down just a little bit but that's okay all righty we've got that down that's looking lovely now I just got a little spot at the top and then a spot at the back and we have plent IIA papers for that well let's see here I don't want to accidentally cut my envelope there we go so pretty I keep wanting to use this right here don't I what is left over here lots lot
s is left maybe we ought to do this first we can put our bunny in there our bunny it can finally fit let's go ahead and do that it's definitely going to cover up some of this writing but at least we have our little bunny on there oh it's so sweet you could make a pocket I just thought of that you could actually this is not glued down right here you could actually make a little pocket when you put this on here if you wanted to I'm not going to but I'm just suggesting that it could be done you cou
ld make this into a pocket all right so I'm going to just I guess I'll put it on my paper okay and then I'm going to pop this down just like that I don't know if I put enough glue on this part no I didn't I didn't think so let's go ahead and let's get our glue I'm just lifting up my piece and I'm just adding my glue on here here we go so now we've got our bunny on there and trimming once again now we still got this little piece up here but now I've got some smaller pieces that I really like I co
uld bring this is the same as this so let's pop that right there on top and I'm going to have to trim that out again but that's okay let's go ahead and get this glued on here and we've got it all collaged up and it's gorgeous I love how this has come together it is quite quite beautiful now trimming one more time we have to trim a little bit more and then we're going to need to trim this part this is the tricky part right this part is the tricky part of trimming now if you're really good at meas
uring and making things fit together after you cut them you could definitely cut that and then you wouldn't have that tricky cut to make all right let's look at our gorgeous collage I think it has turned out lovely and then we open it up and we've got our vintage paper in the back and then our beautiful window decoration now for inking what do we want to do and how are we going to Ink this because we've already glued everything down well let me show you a little trick that I like to use in inkin
g my window especially that's where the little trick comes in I've got my vintage photo and I've got my sponge I've loaded my sponge up with some ink and I'm simply going to start from the window we don't need this anymore we don't need this start from my window and I'm going to kind of push towards my paper that we collaged with so I'm just you can feel that paper catching on the sponge and I'm just pushing it out starting with my sponge on the window and just working around and pushing out wha
t a quick way to Ink up the edges of that paper now our window might have a little bit of Ink on it so I'm just taking a little bit of a paper and I'm just wiping now my paper is moist that I'm using it's moist and I'm just wiping my window and look we've got our ink off of our window our W window is clean and we've got edges Inked I love that little trick and let's go ahead since we've got our sponge here oh I do need to put a little Notch here I would like to at least I'm hoping my paper is no
t so wet but I'm thinking it's super wet let me see if I can dry this real quick and we'll come back and finish this all right hopefully it is dry enough now I did take that opportunity to go ahead and ink up all the way around let's go ahead and let's fine the center and just make a little Mark and then we're going to use our 1 in hole punch and barely put it into our hole punch our paper just squeeze it and then it will fit right in and then I'm just going to barely punch it out oh yes it was
dry enough I was a little worried that it might just chew its way through through but no it dried enough and there we go we have our little hole punch our thumb punch sorry so now let's go ahead and fold our flap over now I'm using a ruler I find that sometimes that's extremely helpful in getting your paper which is very thick at this point because we've added so many layers on top it's going to help fold it straight at least it does for me and I'm just going to look for my bone folder which I h
ave no idea where it has run off to H I don't know where my B folder has gone you guys oh dear well maybe I can use my all okay just pressing it down because I really need it to be creased this is our little flap wonderful now I do like to go ahead and ink up this here and I usually ink up the inside but it's still a little damp I can see so I'm not going to do that right now now let's address the issue that we have with not completely coming over with our collage on the edges only thing we're g
oing to do here the thing we're going to do here I should say is we're going to take off the corner just a little bit just a smidget and I mean a smidget I mean a smidget just a tiny little piece we're just going to cut off I'm using that piece that fell as my template to cut the other side so it's approximately the same amount that we've cut off at an angle and I'm just going to Ink up that that we have just cut and so it matches and now oh my goodness gracious you open it up and you have plent
y of room to get whatever you would like inside your little pocket right here so let's go ahead and let's decorate it up real quick and then we'll put on our closure so I've got all kinds of things here guys I've got some blue lace I have a little tiny piece of blue lace oh my goodness is that not beautiful on there oh I love that blue on there I do have this that I got at the thrift store oh no that might be the wrong color I love this blue lace I also have this little I guess it's a book mark
that I got from digital collage. Club do digital collage club.com and I'm just going to see about possibly fussy cutting this out this might be too big of scissors to do that let's switch to our smaller scissors and let's just cut this out quickly here when you fussy cut it's the easiest if you basically hold your scissors still fairly still in one position and you turn your paper as you cut so I'm basically turning my paper and keeping my scissors fairly steady and that works the best you'll ge
t better results that way way and you'll be able to fussy cut a lot quicker that way too so that's just a little tip for fussy cutting all righty perfect now let's see how does that look oh that's really sweet on there that fits that very nicely so I'm going to just brush what I've just cut out my little jar of tulips so pretty just with my just to get a little bit of that white edge off that's going to be really nice on there I have a little label this label is from by J Le that's where this la
bel is from I think I need a little more ink on my sponge and I'm just going to pop that right there and let's talk about our lace I want a bigger piece that I had I don't know where that little piece went but I want a bigger piece of that so I'm simply taking the center out of my lace I don't want it to be this wide and I really like that Center and a little bit longer I think because I think I want to take it from the top to the bottom and then let's do this side and trim this out so I'm just
using the part of the lace that I want and saving the rest I'll use it for another project pop that over there how about if we glue this right on here like that what does that look like that's lovely what else do I have over here I'm thinking that this um bouquet in that jar what happens if we put a little lace behind it oh yeah that's what it needed it needed a little lace behind it let's pop on the lace right here on the side I think I want it to hang just a little bit over the window just a l
ittle bit I'm going to use my hot glue for this and once again it's quick it's easy and it's great for videos it's my little commercial that's not a commercial okay and I'm just going to pop that right on there just like that and give it a little trim okay next what I want to do is I want to attach my little decorative net right here on the top of my collage and I'm seriously just going to add a little bit of glue here and there kind of on these little parts that are more solid just like that an
d then lay it down there now I need a little bit right here so I didn't add glue all over it really didn't want the glue to show well can you see that a little better it just gives another little layer and now I'm going to pop that on I think I want to put it on that side let's look at this first this is going to be important to where you're going to where I'm going to put this bouquet let's talk about our closure I've got a piece of packing material and I still have my 1in hole punch and I'm go
ing to need four for for the closure for this piece right here so I'm going to punch out four circles that's what I need for this project four little circles there we are we have our four circles and now what I want to do is I want to put two circles together so we're going to put them together like that I'm going to bring in my all and I'm going to bring in a little piece of foam that I got from another piece of packaging and because I've Inked my project I'm going to only ink the top Circle I'
m not inking all the circles I'm not inking all the sides just one side of my circle and just one of them so just got some ink on there now I'm going to hold this together these are one on top of the other and I'm going to place it down one on top of the other I'm going to take my all and I'm going to poke a hole in what I think is the center Okay so we've got that I don't want to let it go yet I'm grabbing some over here in my dish I pull my dish over here I'm losing things out of my dish I'm l
ooking for my Brads caught in the the flatb pearls here's one here's another okay now I'm going to keep them together and I'm going to take my bread and I'm going to stick my bread through here and then I'm going to open up the bread just like that now I'm going to do the exact same thing I've got my two onein circles I'm putting them together and I'm going to place them down together I'm going to take my o and I'm going to poke a hole in what I think is the middle I'm going to keep them togethe
r I'm going to take my Brad and I'm going to poke it right through the hole that I've just made in both of them and then I'm going to open up the back of my Brad so now I've got my two circles with my Brad they're all together I think we're going to need some of these don't you I do I think we're going to need some of those I've got some of the cording right here and how about if we use some blue cording so I'm just going to get a little this blue cording off of my little card here and this is w
here we're thinking okay we're going to need to put our closure o not over our window we want to move it over to the other side where our decoration is and we're going to need to put it over here probably about in the middle of our little piece here from our that's solid right here this piece right here that's solid and then we're going to need to put this one down a little further so that means my decoration is going to have to come down all the way to the bottom of my envelope to be able to ge
t my closure on correctly so let's go ahead and let's glue down our closure so I'm going to hot glue this down right there on the top on my flap I'm gluing it on the flap it's self so just gluing it right there on the flap and then I'm going to glue this one right down below it just like that so now it's glued on let's go ahead and glue on our I'm wondering I'm thinking I'm going to have to use hot glue this it's pretty thin but I think we can do it and glue this on just like this I used hot glu
e because it was going over that net on top of the net I mean and the hot glue will grab a hold quicker and faster if I do it that way and I can put it right underneath my label underneath that leaf just like that that's going to be adorable just going to add a little bit of hot glue and get that glued right on there now I can glue my leaf down so it doesn't AC accidentally get ripped off because it's not glued down oh my goodness how cute is this I've got another screen on top okay so cute now
our binding or our cording we're going to take our cording we're going to go in between our two circles we got two circles here just pull it open pop your cording in there I always like to tie my knot in the direction in which I'm going to be pulling my cording I'm going to be pulling my cording down towards the other closure so I'm just going to be tying a knot and you pull the knot all the way to the Brad so it's a knotted inside your circle that's going to keep your circle open just a little
bit so that you're going to be able to get your cing um around it now let's pull this one open pop our cording right in there and then you can twine it around as many times as you want and then I like to give it a cut and then tie a knot at the end I just like that I just think it feels a little better then you could put a little charm or something on there if you want to I'm not going to at this time but you know we are going to need a little bit of bling I'm kind of thinking I want a strip of
bling which is a little larger than I usually use but it kind of looks like maybe I need a little we move this now cuz it's completely shut I think it would go really nice right there let's go ahead oh oh good Heavens okay everything's fine and we're g to put this right here and there's always a little bit of excitement on my channel right I'm always doing something cookie okay there we go oh my goodness you guys I absolutely now I truly truly love this project you could use this for happy mail
you could pop it into your Journal you could even make a beautiful in Easter basket and add this to it oh my goodness you guys I hope that you have enjoyed this video as much as I've enjoyed making it and if you have please give me a thumbs up I invite you to subscribe to my Channel and I'll see you in my next video I'll see you there guys bye now
