our Curiosities today as local students competed in this year's Western Colorado Elementary science fair at the Eureka McConnell Science Museum our news reporter jron Alex was surrounded by all of the science at the fair earlier today jron tell us what did you learn out there thank you Hannah we learned with the variety of scientific investigations on display today like the strength of magnetism in relation to temperature technology and its effects on Stress and Anxiety and much more I love scie
nce fair it's one of my favorite days of the year the western Colorado Elementary science fair had entries from all over the Grand Valley this year's Edition as we are being told was the biggest ever Julie Onish the Eureka science fair coordinator shares that it was her first year running of the event and it exceeded her expectations and this is my first year running it and so I was obviously very nervous and stressed um but I really had a great time and really just seeing all the kids here and
getting together to show off their projects they've been working on for a really long time felt really awesome the latest edition of the elementary science fair witnessed a significant increase in participation with 130 students showcasing over 80 entries up from 104 students in 64 entries in the previous year students engag in a scientific method formulating testable questions designing experiments and analyzing data to draw conclusions about their hypotheses these inquiries range from investig
ating the impact of building shape on earthquake resistance to more everyday Curiosities such as the experimented conducted by student students Josephine Wilbert and Blake Ley Ron on determining the type of chocolate that melts the fastest and the reasons behind it we learned that white chocolate takes the uh the slowest amount of time to melt but it was close um so at first white chocolate was a minute and 5 Seconds but then we realized we were actually burning it um so then we did it for 55 an
d it was pretty good um we learned that dark chocolate melts the slowest because it has less sugar in it there were many great projects at the western Colorado Elementary science fair like Delila Gray's seed to seedling project at the Eureka Science Museum I'm jron Alex reporting for kkc1 news back to you Hannah all right thanks jron the first place winner for the third grade category was Chris Lee from new Emerson for more on the winners from the third grade fourth grade and fifth grade categor
