by 1550 the indigenous people who had inhabited the island for many many many years the population was decimated by a few things there was mistreatment location or dislocation by the European settlers and also the diseases the Europeans brought to the island the indigenous people just decimated the population at that point in time was Spanish settlers enslaved Africans and Indigenous people so Cuba became a hub for the Spanish for the exploration of North America he sort of used it as a sort of
