What's Up with Micro.blog - Edition 2024-02

[Music] hello this is numeric citizen here in today's video what's up with micro blog Edition 2024 February it was a pretty busy month for micro blog because there are two major changes and a lot of bug fix and improvements the most important change to micro blog this month is about the pricing structure uh you can still get the micro blog for free with a limited set of feature but if you have a a Blog and you want to create a new one now it's possible because if you subscribe to the premium sub

scription tier now you can create up to five different blogs under the same custom domain so if you use subdomains for each Blog then you're all set um and if you use to have a one p onepage website and now you can convert that site to a Blog um and it's pretty easy to do I'll show you that in a moment um so I think it's a lot of values with this new pricing structure so for some people used to have two different account uh for uh hosting two different blog now they can host two blogs within the

single account and they actually they actually see a price reduction um in that case for those who are using onepage website and wish to convert that to a real blog um I'll show you how to do that uh because it's exactly what I did for one of my website which is the meta numeric citizen. me uh this used to be a uh onepage website before the the new subscription um where we can now have five blogs so I decided to um change that and make it a full blog so in order to do that the first thing you y

ou need to do is when you go and visit your onepage website you'll see this uh there's an option to come convert this site to a full blog so what you do and also you have to remove any redirection that you add in place which was my case because I wanted people who visited the meta mer citizen. me to go to another website that's one of the use case for using a onepage website so now I have removed that and I kept the alias in my DNS configuration because I still want people to use the thumbs up d

omain meta to go to micro blog and so that I can uh build this blog on the micro blog hosting service so the other thing I had to do is to remove the redirection and also I had to tell microblog to stop unpublishing the index.html file it's kind of an an instruction to microblog that says for one page website you don't need to publish this file so I remove that because I want this file to be published as my post get published on my new blog and also I have to uninstall this plugin which was requ

ired to uh do the custom homepage for a one onepage website so after that the the thing that you need to do is to select a new um visual team plugin so that you display your content in your um preferred matter so that you can have a great website that shows all your blog post one Improvement that has been done still related to subscription is now if you go under the account section there and you click on the button that says view subscriptions uh you'll see this page here where you can see your

current uh credit card that is used to pay for this subscription make sure that it is currently set because when the uh pricing structure has been changed uh earlier this month this card thing thing was reset to nothing so maybe I would have missed the renewal uh now it is this has been fixed I did that manually now you see until when the subscription is valid and if it is set to renew and also you can downgrade your subscription or upgrade your subs subscription depending on which subscription

tier you are currently using so this is an improvement um regarding the viewing subscription experience we also saw the introduction of the long awaited feature called micro blog notes this is available for premium subscribers only uh with notes you can create different notes organize in many um notebooks that your wish and you can share those notes with other people for them to see uh they don't have the capability to edit the notes but they can view those notes if you want to um also consider

that these noes are encrypted so they are fully secure so that it means that the developers behind micro blog cannot see the content of your notes um also I would say that uh it's different than act drafts where you can start writing a post and then later decide to uh share with the world um notes are different it's only for your private use but uh please note that you can convert a note into a blog post if you want uh you can export those notes as markdown files or HTML files and you can also i

mport markdown files and HTML files into different note there's a new um mobile app called uh steta that comes to support this new feature it's available on the iPad and the iPhone and um I'm still thinking about the use case for for that uh new feat feature so let's see how it goes so you access the notes feature on the sidebar here at the bottom notes and when you click on it it's usually it's empty you have to configure uh some settings which are available here for security purposes I won't c

lick the show secret key because I want those notes to stay secure uh I can download the key though if I want to save them save it in a private space so that I can recover my notes if I ever lose uh the configuration of uh this feature and also I can save this into my iCloud account so once is it's done if I click continue here uh this is my current notes uh the color here is decided by the fact that I can use different notebook so this one is blue the other one is in uh green um and I can creat

e a new notebook if I want if I go there in settings and I can add a new notebook here testing create a new notebook and then I can change the color of that notebook to make it different let's say I want to create it in Orange um and then I click on that and I can create a new note this is a new note in a new notebook uh click save on that and then I can share it this note if I want and copy that and I could share this link to somebody else so that it can view the actual content of this note wit

hout requiring the um encryption key so that's pretty cool it's pretty very simple very basic if I want to unshare that I just click unshare and it will remove the uh the link uh I can also delete um right now I cannot take this note and move that to another notebook but I think it's coming I think Manon said that he wanted to iterate on that feature and I would expect that to be coming soon uh you can see all your share notes so since I deleted my my share note I can click on that and if I go b

ack here I will see that this note has been shared can delete that note if I want delete and also I can select another here and if I go on the notebook here as you can see you can have a pretty uh complex note if I click on it then this is this is a h ml file a markdown file that I imported earlier today and then I can see that there is some uh things that is not working but I can change that because I won't be able to display those images oops it's pretty long um and then I can click save and t

hen come back to it and then I can um I should be able to move that to a um post but I don't see the option right now I guess I thought it was right there but it's not um that's weird if I share that no I cannot post from this here so in order to post to create a post from this note I would have to copy the old content and create a new post um instead so it's pretty much that simple to use on the web using the new sta application for the iPad you can edit create or share your private notes uh th

is is actually the uh strata application in action so you can click on one note and type some content some content just click uh here at the back save your note and then you can just create another another one if you wish clicking on that waiting for the note to come in this is a new note just click save and then boom and then you can from there share your new note with a private link to one of your uh friend or your wife whatever you wish you can switch the uh notebook in which you want to um e

dit your notes um so it's pretty basic application but it does the job now for other quality of life improvements there were many uh this month the first one is the ability to mute some keywords from your timeline uh you used to be able to uh mute people but now you can mute keywords directly from your timeline and I would say that it's a pretty uh useful feature in this year because of the election in the US if you don't want to hear about Trump you can easily Trump uh you can easily mute those

words um so you go in your account section and then you go you scroll down and you can edit uh muted um uh words as you can see I don't mute anybody but I do mute a few um things like election Ms there's two times I don't know why I can unmute that there's a Gaza discount and Trump those are the ones that I don't want to see in my timeline and it's very easy to add another uh word U by just entering something here if I don't want to hear about Apple then I click mute but this is something that

I won't do uh it's pretty simp simple to u to manage also there's a new browser extension for Chrome and Firefox and there is the one coming for safery 2 uh this a pretty um convenient way to bookmark a website to your micro blog bookmarking feature so let's say I have this page here that I want to um bookmark I can go in the um browser here I will say that I want to bookmark that it will go and and save that into my bookmarks um this is pretty convenient uh to to do and then uh the next thing i

s if you go on your micro blog account and you visit your bookmarks um I have here this bookmark that is currently archiving and once it is done um depending of the website uh there will be a AI summary generated for that article that is being archived as right now I'll just refresh the page it's still archiving now that the P the page has been archived I can see here that there is a reader uh button that you can click on it to have a the actual content of the archive page but if you look beneat

h that there is a an option there's a little uh but icon here and the AI summary that has been generated generated for that and I think this function is off by defa default if you want to see the archiving you have to show the summary here in order to be able to select have this displayed in your list of bookmarks so it's a pretty nice addition the AI summary also some improvements regarding manual crossposting to other services so if you have a list of posts here like that and you want to cross

post something after the post has been published on your timeline on your blog you just click on that and you'll be able to uh cross post to threads mtoon Tumblr and bu sky or even Twitter if this is something that you want to do uh here I think it's a bug in the user interface because I should have only one blue sky account but let's say I want to uh cross post manually cross poost that specific post I can click that it will uh present me with the content of the original post and I just have t

o click post and it will go out to uh blue sky so this is a an improvement regarding the m Manual crossposting of content another improvements is about the Blue Sky domain verification um if your blog domain is a micro blog and the end is the endle that you want to use on BL Sky then you just have to sign in in to the blue sky under account edit sources and cross posting and micro blog will detect that and will automatic automatically set up the verification for you that's something that is done

and and I think it's a a small improvements or someone who is on Blue Sky finally the Mac application micro blog microblog application has received an update to support the new uh notes feature like this and also the epilog application for book the bookshelf feature has been updated too so that's pretty much it for this month's list of updates and addition to micro blog so that's it for this month edition of WhatsApp with micro blog and as you can see there were a lot of changes and a few notab
