The Fundamental Ambient offers a great entry point into ambient exploration with the tonal integrity to live on a professional's pedalboard but with simplified controls friendly enough for even the newest effect pedal users. With Ambientโ€™s three reverb algorithms, you can experiment with deep, dark pad-like sounds to AM Radio-like lo-fi sounds with the flip of a switch. 00:00 What is the Walrus Audio Fundamental Ambient 01:30 What do the MODES on the Walrus Audio Fundamental Ambient sound like? 05:12 Can you use the Walrus Audio Fundamental Ambient as a normal Reverb? 06:16 Top 5 Tones 5 - DEEP Mode with Gibson SG Guitar 07:31 Top 5 Tones 4 - LUSH Mode with Schecter Nick Johnston Guitar 09:00 Top 5 Tones 3 - HAZE Mode with Gibson SG Guitar 10:00 Top 5 Tones 2 - LUSH mode AND FUZZ with Squier Baritone Guitar 11:42 Top 5 Tones 5 - HAZE Mode into RAT with Fender KC Jaguar Guitar 12:45 Should you Buy the Walrus Audio Fundamental Ambient? #TheGuitarGeek #walrusaudio #ambientguitar

wus audio have added to their fundamental series with this the ambient and this is what it sounds [Music] like now if you're not familiar with the fundamental series from walrus audio they are the entrylevel pedals from walrus so we've got eight others this is the ninth and they've got Distortion and delay and fuzz and overdrive and our ambient every fundamental pedal has three modes and three sliders and on this ambient we've got Decay which is the length of the Reverb tone which is how bright
or dark that Reverb is and mix all the way to the left is just your original signal all the way to the right is just the Reverb signal in fact I better test to see if it goes all the way dry it does does it go all the way wet [Music] all right let's bring it back somewhere sensible let's run to the different modes and I'll start with deep this is the Deep mysterious one that has a sub octave sort of the ambient pedal that Batman would probably play This Is The lalet Nomad junor by the way it's g
ot a single gold foil pickup and just a master volume so it's quite bright which is why I've picked it to go with the Deep mode let's bring up that mix so we can definitely hear those uh that dark [Music] Ness it also comes with Tails as default for me at least so you can hear that when you turn it off that that Reverb stays there no no it doesn't cuz you got the volume turned down on the [Music] guitar it's still there right on to the Lush mode now which is a more sustained ambient Reverb and g
ives you a more Paddy kind of [Music] feeling it's still there and I'm not doing anything it feels like I could have gone off and got a cup of tea whilst that was happening all right one more mode to do that is haze and that is lowii and distorted with some samply bit crushing as well so it gets a bit [Music] gritty [Music] so in a nutshell that is the ambient of course I will do some more sound samples in a bit but we've had the three different modes and for me it does warrant having three diff
erent modes it's not just uh one Reverb with three slightly different variations it does sound well more to the point they have different uses so if you try play the same thing on all three reverbs I'm not saying it doesn't work it's just a case of there is a best mode for that star that you're using so if you're playing mainly arpeggios on the high strings then I would choose probably the Lush mode uh the haze mode definitely for some cordal bouncing and the Deep mode for some some low base Rif
ts because it adds the extra in fact also the Deep mode if you're doing the high high stuff because it gets this nice sort of Patty thing underneath but what I'll do is quickly run through all modes we're playing the same thing so you can hear the exact difference I think that's a worthwhile spending of our [Music] [Applause] [Music] time so yeah that's what I mean the Lush mode definitely has this longer sustain and you can hear on the haze mode that crackling coming in which frankly is not qui
te enough crackling for me I'd like a little bit more Crackle please walrus audio and I think my favorite one has to be that deep every time I just well that's the one I gravitate towards naturally but you might be wondering if you can use the ambient as a standard Reverb because there is a Reverb pedal in the walrus audio fundamental range but let's find out if you can use the ambient as a believable space in which to sit your guitar so let's do a similar thing all the patches all the Deep Lush
and Haze settings um on the lowest thing I can find that fits uh I guess a small [Music] [Music] Reverb [Music] yes you can get away with it but it wouldn't be my first choice of only Reverb this is definitely ambient which you know the name should suggest so if you're looking for a standard spring reverb or something digital don't go for this this is definitely if you want to create some beautiful soundscapes which it does and it does well by the way a little tip if you've got the Decay up hig
h and you're waiting for that decay to end and you don't want to have to turn it off CU you know that'll just leave the trailer on all you have to do is switch the mode and switch it back again and that'll kill it like this there we go you're welcome right I'm going to give you my favorite settings on the ambient in my top five tones and I get to play some different guitars as [Music] well [Music] so as far as ambient pedals go for me that's the most vanilla setting of them all where you're just
sort of 50/50 on the mix and it's a big old sustain but it's something nice if you're singing if you do sing and electric guitarre at the same time uh stick a bit of compression on that and you've really got a nice or or maybe even a a stereo imager if you're that way inclined and um yeah you got a really nice bed to sing over top of whilst just playing very sparsely um I really really enjoy that sort of just very basic playing and letting the pedal do a lot of the heavy lifting um but speaking
of heavy lifting I'll do some heavy lifting now with some volume swells on I don't know on something I'll find something to do some volume swrs on you'll like [Music] that [Music] yeah that's fun to do so if you get the timing right and just hit the next chord as you're letting the peak of the first Decay wash over then that what was that what does that mean what I mean is just listen to what you're playing and don't play it too soon so you end up with this cacophony of chords all over top of o
ne another but it is fun to do and I think if you I think it's quite impressive as well I think you know people might go oh that was pretty good Andy so if you if you do think that was good feel free to write it in the comments if you think it was rubbish feel free to do that as well uh I don't I don't need your your validation right I'm going to go back to the SG because yeah that makes me feel like like a [Music] [Applause] rockstar that's a beautiful sound uh where I'm sitting and it feels fu
n to fill up more of the frequency spectrum with just a guitar so I love that the ambient I love ambient music generally where you cannot generally play much and you get to enjoy your playing as well as you know sit back and listen to what you're playing which is why maybe you're not thinking I'm too excited in this video but I truly am because I get to relax a little bit and actually hear more of what the pedal's doing rather than with an overdrive where it's so instantaneous this ambient style
pedal you get to play and then then listen that's fun for me I don't get to do that very often so yeah that's why I'm a little bit more you know relaxed um but let's let's ruin the relaxation and stick a fuzz and a baritone through the ambient and then see what happens [Music] right now I want to get a bunch of pedals like all all my pedals link them all together and put them all through the ambient because putting the baritone on um unleashes a new level of creativity because I don't really kn
ow what I'm doing with it so when when I feel uh less comfortable with something it makes me more creative and I guess that is for me my connection with ambient music just like if you play the wrong note you're going to play lots of them because it stays for a long time so you got to go with it and if you don't know what you're doing the chances of you playing a wrong note are quite High but when it goes to the sandscape of the ambient it's what am I trying to say I'm not trying to say the ambie
nt is the best ambient pedal in the world I'm not but for the money you're getting a lot of pedal you're getting a lot of fun and if you've never played an ambient Reaver before and you don't own one then this is probably a good choice to start with because um it it is easy to use it sounds good and it I'm finding it creative um I so creative I don't want to put the bariton down which is why I'm stalling of it but I have got one more top five turn to do I'll grab something else and um and we'll
play that with the bar turn I went fuzz into ambient now I'm going to go ambient into motherload which is set to the [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] rat [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] St you can also get some sort of you know bitc crushing uh Commodore 64 zelc Spectrum sounds from it that's cool right okay oh it's still there stop it right um mother Lord off it's hissing to heck the ambient pedal is fairly affordable we're not talking sub 100 but for a walrus audio pedal we're tal
king I hate using the word cheap but it is cheap for warus audio pedal normally you'd be looking at something like the slur if you want to go walrus audio and you want to go ambient there is obviously a lot more control and things going on with the slur that is not what the walrus audio fundamental ambient is in fact quite frankly when I looked at that the first time it scared the beesus out of me because of all the knobs and switches and all the functionality so not only is the ambient um cheap
er it's easier to use use and probably less daunting so I don't think the fundamental series is just about price it's about um an entry level to effects so if you I don't know where you are in your guitar Journey but if you're near the beginning and you've never played with pedals before this sort of thing is going to confuse the heck out of you you might get super creative or you might play it once and never play it again I don't think that's the case with the ambient because there's the limit
the creativity comes with a limitation and if you're pretty far into your guitar Journey then maybe the ambient will bore you and you'll be you know wanting more functionality but you might also find a setting you really love so there's Beauty and simplicity is what I'm trying to say so to sum up this review if you've never played an ambient Reverb pedal before this is a great first choice oh what what's that doing there don't don't look at that don't scan that you might win a pedal so anyway th
ink of the ambient as a gateway to those big old sound SC and if you create or produce music that requires you to do weird sounds the ambient is a musthave in your pallet of pedals it probably isn't for people who only ever do heavy chugging and High Gain and don't ever do anything apart from that and you want that dead space behind you this is not an all-in-one Reverb it is as it says on the front right there ambient and if you ever have to do a 30 minute Jazz Odyssey this is the perfect pedal
