Why GTA 5 Downgraded These Amazing FEATURES?

Whitey: https://njwhitey.bandcamp.com/music Hey it's me again. today we look at couple of amazing features from GTA 4, and why they were downgraded in GTA 5. Despite being five years older than GTA 5, GTA 4 still manages to impress even today with its many well-designed features. And for some reason, GTA 5 doesn't follow up on these. Today we take a look at some of the reasons why that may be. First on the list is of course, optimization. GTA 5 and GTA 4 were essentially made for the same generation of consoles. Both of these games are incredibly optimized, but even with cutting edge optimization, the PS3 and XBOX 360 wouldn't be able to handle the f
ull potential of these games. And of course, then there are the next gen updates. But those are basically just graphical overhauls with a few features added here and there. The reason why both next gen updates never even touched the driving in the ragdoll physics is because they are one of the basic elements the game is built upon. Let's say you slightly alter the driving physics, for example. The air is so complex in GTA 5 that even the slightest change can make them completely useless. Basical
ly, many things depend on these core values being set as they are. Altering them could break a lot of things, and that's in simple terms why they never touched the physics in GTA 5. Ever since the game launched anyway, both GTA 4 and GTA 5 were pushing the XBOX 360 and PS3 to their limits. So of course some sacrifices had to be made when making both games. GTA 4 was pushing the boundaries of physics. Meanwhile, GTA 5 was about how far you can push it with the graphics. You see, one car using GTA
4’s physics may not be as heavy on performance, but take 20 cars all with real time physics like that and you may see the problem. This is the reason why GTA five opted for a simple driving physics and on top of that it allows the game to make the transition between the real time and pre calculated physics look a lot smoother, especially if you look at vehicles in the distance. Next up are the ragdoll physics. You know to this day, GTA 4’s ragdoll physics are considered one of the best in the i
ndustry, but then again, they are significantly more demanding on the system than GTA 5’s are. Calculating every motion like this takes a toll on the performance. Here in this clip you can see the ped go into ragdoll mode, even before the car touches him. This allows for a unique reaction without the need of animations. The game basically knows something's gonna happen to that ped even before it does. It's pretty unique, but you can see how this can be heavy on performance. Meanwhile, GTA 5 does
n't ragdoll the peds, until the car makes contact. A similar difference can be seen in shootouts. In GTA 4, you didn't always kill the peds. If you didn't fatally wound them, they could try and run away. The closest thing to this in GTA 5 is the cops dragging other wounded cops away from the danger. The thing is, in GTA 4 it feels more real because things like this aren't just limited to cops. In GTA 5, the peds are incredibly fragile, sometimes dying from a single shot. This again points to opt
imization and how the game handles too many NPCs. So unlike in GTA 4, it makes the NPCs die more easily, so that it can despawn the corpses when there's too much of them. What GTA 5 lacked in physics, made up with its graphics. Because systems like PS3 and XBOX 360 couldn't handle both at the same time. I think it's kind of obvious why they chose better graphics over physics. If the game looks better, then it will most likely sell better. And even more importantly, they were able to prepare for
the next generation of consoles. Those are finally able to handle both good graphics and physics at the same time, although they still didn't want to touch the physics because like I said previously, it would take a lot of effort, but now they could utilize what they learned while making both games and use it while making their next game. And that's about it from the optimization perspective. Next are the downgrades that I find a lot harder to justify, like hand-to-hand combat, for example. In G
TA 4, it's very immersive and honestly impressive. Just the amount of animations tells you that they've put a lot of effort into it. Definitely more compared to 5. GTA 4 even had activities linked to this feature, whereas in GTA 5 it feels more like an afterthought. But hey, at least we have darts. The only way I can justify it is that they tried to make it more simple. Exactly, when you compare shooting in GTA 5 and GTA 4. I find GTA 4’s shooting to be more satisfying, but I still don't see G
TA 5’s shooting as a downgrade. When it all comes together, it feels more precise than GTA 4. And that's exactly what a game like GTA Online needs. The same thing goes for explosions. In GTA 5, It doesn't matter where you are in the blast zone, you will always die. And overall explosions just deal a lot more damage than in GTA four. It's a shame because all of these things would make gunfights a lot more interesting and they would certainly last longer. Next up are the drive by animations. I'm j
ust going to play a clip here and you be the judge. But I have good news on this because by the looks of things, GTA 6 will be bringing back similar animations like this. In one of the leaked videos, you can see the devs testing this feature. In short, you can see a guy leaning out from a window shooting with an assault rifle. Let's just hope the feature makes it into the final game anyway. Then there are the climbing mechanics and let's be honest, GTA 4 has way better climbing mechanics than GT
A 5. Although the movement can be a bit more frustrating at times. But on the other hand, you can climb a lot higher. Another feature that was downgraded was crouching. In GTA 5 your character just bends down a little bit. So in terms of combat, it's pretty much useless. It doesn't even improve your accuracy, which the crouching in GTA 4 does. I mean, there is nothing to improve anyways. The weapons are as accurate as they can be. And the cover system in GTA 5 is far better than the one in GTA 4
. So it makes a little more sense that the crouching was removed. But now we have one obsolete feature that's used like five times in the entire game. GTA 4’s crouching system also seems to be making a comeback in GTA 6. Next on our list is the wanted level. Evading the police in GTA 5 is done significantly better than in GTA 4, but what GTA 5 lacks is variety. GTA four has six wanted levels. Meanwhile, GTA five has only five. A lot of vehicles are unutilized in GTA 5’s chases. There is the FIB
Buffalo, but there's also the police variant of the Buffalo. Then there are the unmarked cruisers, which interestingly enough became available to buy in GTA Online along with many other police vehicles. It's honestly a shame GTA 5 doesn't use these vehicles in police chases in In GTA 4, you also see different helicopters being used when you reach a certain wanted level. Due to this, evading the police can be pretty tough. Not to mention due to the car physics being so different than in 5, cops a
re able to ram you off the road much easier. What's more interesting is that the NPC in GTA 5 know how to use these vehicles. This just shows how much more potential the game has and it's a shame we never get to see all of it. I mean, I'm not talking about the helicopter you have to follow During one of the Cayo Perico heist setups. NPC’s with that cannon are so broken. Because the second they see you, you are dead. I'm talking more about helicopters like the Annihilator, for example. It's a pr
etty good looking chopper to be honest. It's a shame many of these features didn't make it to GTA five, but in the end it makes the games feel a bit more unique in their own way. And as always, if you miss some of those features, you can always bring them back with mods. For example, the Euphoria Ragdoll Overhaul manages to imitate GTA GTA 4’s ragdoll system well enough. The NPC’s don't fall to the ground as easily as they used to in GTA 5, which of course makes shootouts more interesting. As fo
r driving, I highly recommend a mod I made the video on a couple of weeks ago. The one is called DriveV and it combines GTA 4’s driving with GTA 5’s. This means that driving is not as difficult to learn as it is in GTA 4, yet it's still as satisfying. It also adds spawn points for GTA online vehicles into the world. All of these mods will be in the video description below. Another thing you'll find there is Whitey’s bandcamp. He’s the artist that made all the music in this video. You'd be doing
me a huge favor if you checked it out. And if you hear something that you like, just buy it. Here are some songs I personally recommend. Anyways, that's going to be for me. Thank you for sticking around. We are almost at 2000 subscribers, which is holy ____. I'm still shocked how quickly we reached the number. Anyways have a great day and I'll guess I'll see ya.

Pretty nice video, mate! You made a good example. I want to add something too. While fighting in Gta 4, when the NPC's health bar remains at the last 3, when you hit that NPC (fist, etc.), it goes into ragdoll mode. This is a realistic and beautiful detail. In Gta 5, the NPC simply dies. And while climbing in Gta 4, the game allows you to move left or right while hanging. In Gta 5, you automatically climb straight. Also, can you make videos for Rdr1 and Max Payne 3? The "Euphoria" physics in these games are amazing.

@iamtheamp8682

Bro I clicked this video on my recommended and was so focused on the video i didnt realize until now after the video is over that you have 2k subs only, like your editing style and everything is so good I expected way more subs.

@Jasongilliar

I think gta 4 looks better to me than 5, but rdr2 looks better

@bashirzaid6971

i personally prefer GTA 4 graphics from Ballad gay tony over gta 5 .. it feels unique and just has a nice vibe

@ThatBIueHairedGuy

The police buffalo actually is used in chases but only in specific areas of the city, the FIB one isn’t tho, but if you’re wanted and approach the FIB agents that spawn at the Satellites in Sandy Shores they will sometimes enter the buffalo and chase you. The unmarked Vapid Stanier is used in chases only in a strangers and freaks mission and a side mission for that weed shop Franklin can buy.

@iwtdl_

Glad you showed off the Bravado Dorado near the end. Easily has the best driving physics in GTA V.

@ArthurMuneh

Great analysis. The limit of a VRAM cache is 256mb compared to 1GB that RDR2 has, so let’s hope VI has around 2-4gb. So I really expect ragdoll and better driving physics

@wardnejim4495

Fun fact, one of Whitey's songs is included in GTA IV

@shockflyerprojectz8938

Bro is so underrated for putting out a video with dark space quality. Keep it up bro, made me sub

@Rainquack

"Wait, that's not the Whitey from Gran Turismo 4's soundtrack right?" click "Oh, it is!"

@Gregorovich1997

Another good video. I’d like to see a look at how GTA Online evolved from the original ps3/xbox 360 release to its current form. I played from the beginning, where driving physics was felt a tad different, the earnings in online were so little that owning a garage and a custom car was genuine effort and chasing the $9000 bounties around the map would almost be a session wide event that everyone was going after. That ecosystem all started to change when the first heist update dropped and with the AI driving code changed to be more reckless with the Import/Export update that had you stealing and delivering cars that you had to cover the repairs for. Now every update seems to have cars that cost millions despite being very basic. Like some of the update cars cost less than a submarine or military helicopter 😂

@baconot179

you really deserve more subscribers and views ur editing is really good

@T_A_N_G_Y

Yea, the peds are fragile, they die after one stun from a taser

@DatDudePlays

The recommended tab made me watch this video, underrated as hell.

@volcansv9395

Bro I was just watching one of you’re videos for the first time and it happens you just posted a video 10 mins ago what are the odds lol

@josemateusbaptista8054

You really should be a bigger channel, your editing style is amazing! Earned a subscriber!

@jankwartel1860

You forgot to mention that while you're hanging from a ledge you could also move left and right.

@madhunter6420

nah that DriveV mod makes the vehicle feel like in moon gravity 😂there was an option to turn on made by zolika, that was by far best handling like IV, and also no curb snapping. But he decided to not update his trainer anymore

@Gstar5150

Why did they get rid of the Pool and Bowling minigames, those would have been so much more fun to play with your friends online, the pool was always my favorite playing with Little Jacob haha.

@Gogga9

underrated channel tbh. a way underrated.
