for whatever reason the NFL has been putting Mike North who's now the head of scheduling out to do whatever hey and I must have missed the email where he was offered to this show but he's been on with Adam shine he was on the SI media podcast Peter King talked to him for football morning in America I don't know why they're putting Mike North out there I don't know if it's to get people to understand why there's been no flexing this year and why there may not be much flexing at all of night games
but he did see or say saw this just before the show to Adam shine that he regrets the league regrets not understanding and realizing the Texans were going to be a more attractive draw but nobody thought that going into the season yeah I thought if you to talk one team in the AFC that had no chance to contend it would have been the Houston Texans just like I said a couple of years ago with the Bengals one team that can't contend that has no chance so in the future when I identify that team I'm b
etting on them making the playoffs if I ever bet and I never do yeah yeah completely agree with you Mike if we had done that this year they would have been my first pick as well because I thought they had no chance to make the postes and rookie quarterback new head coach we didn't know how demo Ryan was going to be as the head coach the roster didn't look that great and all of a sudden here they are they are in contention guess what they're playing for first place this week they they win this ga
me they're tied for first place and they will have beaten Jacksonville twice so they have the head-to-head tiebreaker and they've been dominant against T Trevor Lawrence in the Jaguars this season so I'm not betting against them this week and you're right well if we do that that pick again next year I am going to bet on at least one of the teams probably the first team that we pick although the the Texans would have been the first pick a couple years ago the Bengals would not have been the first
pick I don't think they were the first pick so but one of those teams I'm going to go bet on to to make to make at least make the Super Bowl cuz it's happened I think the Texans probably were our first pick to not make it a couple of years ago this year there weren't as many it was Texans Raiders and Cardinals and maybe the Rams those were the ones Sims and I had that conversation before the season you and I might have had it as well I can't I can never really remember I can't remember yesterda
y how could I remember all those weeks ago I put the buck in there too I see now not in the NFC South the NC sou knew yeah no nobody knew I mean look this is why and we haven't talked about this and we we'll get to what we need to get to because the the theme the Common Thread is termination of employment but Jay Glazer said over the weekend that Frank Reich the first year coach of the Panthers who had just done a good job and got railroaded I think by Jim ERS in Indianapolis is on the hottest s
eat right now and and one of the reasons I think why going into the season you could have made the case for the Panthers to win that division you could have made the case for any of those teams to win the NFC South and you know setting aside the fact that David teer is way too impulsive way too involved and good luck hiring a good coach good luck hiring a head coach who has options when you are going through them over and over again and you develop the reputation of being someone very difficult
to work with because you're the billionaire and you're not afraid to remind everyone of your status and you're not afraid to put your hands in the dough dirty as they may be as it relates to your inability to build and maintain a good football team setting that aside I I it's I think it's it's unfair to Frank Reich to expect that team when the owner is the one that wanted Bryce young over CJ strad but you know the owner can't blame himself and the owner can't fire himself so so anyway um the Pan
thers would have been a team you look at and say well they've got as good of a shot as any of the other teams in the NFC South it looks like the Saints right now we'll find out on Sunday against the Falcons if they can really take a grip on the division but but who knows it's still wide open among those three teams other than the Panthers you know and I think one thing probably that David teer is looking at just what we're talking about Mike is the Texans success cuz he's looking at that saying
we we are playing in a weaker division we have a rookie quarterback just like they do but ours was picked first and theirs was picked second we have a rookie coach just like they do and ours is more experiened than theirs is and our defense was supposed to be much better than theirs was on paper anyway I would have picked the Panthers defense far in away better than the Texans defense before the season started so 100% if you look at the two rosters side by side before the year started and what t
hey had I would have expected the Panthers to have a better record than what the Texans have right now and guess what their only win is over the Texans and see I think what David terer believes is you know it's the old they kiss the Frog until one turns into a prince he'll just keep throwing back frogs and and he'll he he's got to be looking at Texans saying well if I just would have hired demo Ryan yeah we'd be doing we'd be doing what the Texans are doing he overlooks the fact that he needs to
get the hell out of the way and I'm sorry David teer but hey you look we've got common Roots at the same school at Carnegie melon I go there for grad school I went there undergrad I think he went there for the whole thing and they've got you know he's done well enough that there's a building named after him and that's another difference between me and him he actually gives money back to his college I don't they got enough out of me at the time you ain't getting quit calling me Carnegie melon yo
u getting any of my money you got everything you were getting for me between 1983 and 1987 but I digress but I don't know that they'd be successful with too Ryan because terer can't help himself teer can't stay out of it and you know we we got the glimpse of how he's wired when they caught him on camera in that Panthers Bears game a couple of weeks ago and he was pissed he couldn't even pretend to be happy that he owns an NFL team he's worth 20 billion at least smile for the camera guy that's on
e of the reasons why you bought the team so they show you on TV when your team's playing don't get pissed about that I just think he's holding on way too tight and and if he fires Frank Reich it may it it may be a sign that that team is never going to be successful as long as he's the owner because he can't just make the hire and let the people do what they're paid to do hi it's Mike Florio thanks for watching PFT on YouTube hit subscribe for the latest news and Analysis from pro football talk

@xnvaznx

If Tepper in fact made the call for who they drafted and uses Reich for a scapegoat instead of owning up and taking responsibility, that's a horrible sign for any coach hired there. That's just bad business.

@sportshulk8109

I'm a Texans fan but nobody knew that Stroud would look this good. But I'm thankful we Got Stroud :-)

@mikesbookreviews

They nailed the QB pick and coaching hire. Carolina whiffed on both. At least that's my two cents.

@Edward_Strong1982

As a jags fan, I knew they’d the a lot better than expected. After the coaching hire, then they drafted stroud I said “uh oh, here they come.” I love it though. AFC south has stunk for a very long time. The Jags, Texans and Colts are all in the right direction. The Titans are going to have a long way too go because everybody is ahead of them in their rebuild

@AbigailRTeh

The difference between the Texans and the Panthers is the owner's wife Hannah McNair. Texans are just emerging from our own dysfunctional years when the organization made disastrous decisions. Making HC Bill O'Brien GM also. Hiring NE chaplain Jack Easterby to be VP of football operations !? It became so bad that Hannah had to step in and bring common sense to the decision-making. She rejected hiring Josh McCown as HC last year bec he had no NFL coaching experience. Then DeMeco got on board. But Texans fans know who started the climb out of the dysfunction.

@tizzystith6440

I don't always agree with Florio sometimes, but I love how he keeps calling Tepper out and doesn't back down from it. It's night and day the wins and loses, since Tepper took over. How do you expect fans to take this franchise seriously anymore when you run it onto the ground like you do? It'll be a long while before this team gets good.

@chicolovato4263

C J should have went one C.J is a better passer And overall QB 1 take that to the bank Mr Chico ♥️

@melanie010203

The Chargers have been dong their chargering for decades and the Panthers are now teppering. As a fan of both teams,it is really difficult to watch them lose because of the owners.

@LorenzoRogers-of7is

Cj stroud amazing that coach Demeco is amazing Texans playing complimentary football rn very thankful we’re going in the right direction after the last devastating 3 years..Go Texans🎉

@wuzi7049

It's still garbage that the texans didn't get flexed into a primetime spot. The only flex they got moved them back to noon. And for the fans that is awful!

@ElVatoG711

CJ makes the whole squad play better for him

@dave6455

Demeco didn't want to interview with Panthers. He was set on the Texans. Demeco was never an option for us.

@chrisclark2747

The Panthers likely would have won the NFC South if they had drafted Stroud. They might have won if they had just not traded up at all. Bryce Young is just overwhelmed.

@MRKNIGHT

I’m not buying flexing HOU/DEN down to 12:00 from 3:25 actually helps when there are games at that time. Sounds like they did not want competition with SF/PHI.

@OkagaCalifornia

In a few off seasons, Cal McNair went from being a bottom tier owner to being at least middle of the road. All of that is because of the fact that he has decided to hire the right people to make the decisions for him while he sits back and basks in the team's success.

@Jarro21

It seems a lot of analysts make takes based on paper and history and not look at the players and the game itself. If I were making the decisions, I could have told you that Hou would be an exciting an interesting team this year. 1. Demeco Ryan is a defensive coach who coming from a team that had one of the best defenses in years. 2. If you watched football, I've said CJ Stroud was an nfl qb from his first year starting at Ohio State. I watched every Ohio State game but it's clear to me that many people did not actually watch CJ at Ohio State but instead looked at stat sheets and short highlights which does not show situational football and deciaion making. In other words, there is no context when all you look at is stats and highlights. This is not just CJ technical accumen but his leadership, team first mentality and how he uplifts everyone around him. Those things don't show on stat sheet. So I knew with them also picking Will Anderson, they could surprise some teams this year. Yes, I knew CJ was that good and he hasn't played his best game yet.

@edwarddaou9941

Swarm 🤘🏽

@denniscale1538

No one truly accounted for the impact DeMeco would have as a HC!

@NakedBlastoise

I don’t listen to anyone that has never put on football pads or has never coached football.

@dcc70

4:26 Frank Reich is not a rookie coach
