I made a video a few weeks back covering how to travel light and how I fit everything for all of my trips into a single backpack one of the comments on that video was asking if it's worth all of the inconveniences and trade-offs of one bag travel compared to just checking a bag for your next trip spawned a new video idea for me so today I'm going to be covering all of the benefits of one bag travel and traveling lighter first and foremost when you're planning and preparing for your trip packing
a single backpack is so much easier and less stressful than planning out a whole big checked bag or multiple bags when you're just packing a single bag you inevitably have less items to worry about and stress about and think about and it just allows you to have a little bit of a less stressful experience leading into your trip I've found that this brings all of the fun aspects of preparing for a trip without all of the unnecessary stress this next one is definitely my favorite in addition to the
easier packing process before your trip it's also much nicer and simpler to travel and navigate through the airport whether it's going through security or looking around for maybe some food to eat before your flight or just exploring and killing some time while you wait for boarding it's way nicer to be in the airport with a single backpack you don't need to worry about rolling anything around or lugging stuff around everything is on your back way simpler way easier while we're on the topic of
airports and air travel another huge benefit to just having a backpack it allows you to bring all of your luggage and all of your items with you on your person for the flights you no longer risk damaging anything that you're bringing with you on a trip and then you also don't need to worry about your items getting lost if anyone has had trouble with that in the past I haven't personally but I know a few family members that have it is no easy task to recover or get money credited back to you for
lost items you don't need to worry about it if you just have a backpack you can keep it with you in your seat it's also a lot less expensive to travel with a single bag obviously you're going to save money by not owning and buying multiple pieces of luggage but you're also going to save a ton of money on baggage fees for air travel or even train travel you can use those cost savings towards a better travel bag towards money for your trip or just keeping in your savings account or we can invest i
n higher quality travel items because you don't need to buy as many of them it's also going to be a lot easier for you store your luggage in between trips I don't know about you but I live in a relatively small City apartment and those big checked bags take up a ton of space in my apartment closets this way I have a single backpack nice and easy to store compact in the back of your closet I'm obviously in a bit of a different situation here because a review bags I have quite a few but for any no
rmal folks out there you just really need the one traveling and living out of a backpack even on the short term is also a really great way to kind of practice and experience minimalism in a smaller form it's always been a good way for me to kind of recalibrate my needs and my day-to-day regular life when I'm not traveling it's always a great feeling for me when I go through a trip and I've just been out of my backpack and I get home and I feel like I didn't really miss much that I didn't bring w
ith me it's a good reminder to appreciate and be grateful for the items I have and to realize some of the items that I might want I don't really need traveling out of a backpack is also going to be a lot more environmentally friendly and obviously I know skipping travel all together is going to be the best thing for the environment but I think there's always a balance that can be struck here so this is a great way to lessen the load on airplanes or cars or train travel these is a little bit less
energy consumption compared to big bags another one of my favorite things is just the adaptability and flexibility of traveling out of a backpack you know if you have lots of big check bags and luggage you know say you go through a common scenario of needing the check out of an air B&B or hotel at 11:00 a.m. let's say but your flight doesn't leave till 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. you have to deal with all of your stuff in between that time if you're traveling out of a backpack you get the convenience of
just being able to bring everything with you it makes the experience a lot more smooth it allows you to be flexible and adaptable and change your plans and really just embrace what you want to do on your trip and that really brings it back to the core of why I love one bag traveling it just allows you to travel and move a lot more unencumbered it's very similar to minimalism on a micro scale less stuff is generally going to be less stress for your trip I'm also really happy to announce it in thi
s video my partnership with pact they're actually the ones that make the pact one in the packed backpack here we're teaming up to make some content on my channel here and I'm actually going to be writing for their website as well so I would like to thank them as kind of my first official channel sponsor here if you are interested I have a full review of the packed backpack on my youtube channel here they're actually going to be shipping these pretty soon they're still in the pre-order status on

I 100% agree with this video its so liberating to travel light. Your hands are free, you're less stressed. Thank you for this!

@awkwarddog88

Congrats on the collab with Pakt! That’s so awesome. My backpack came in this week and I’m beyond stoked. It’s going to be a benchmark for downsizing my mountain of clothes...😅 Thanks for another great video!

@Youknowthebo

Haha, I definitely know the feeling of having a bunch of bags at home. THanks for the video!

@TheCristolShow

Great points made here. I think packing light has really changed the way I travel and saves money and opens you up for more adventure

@matt6740

I will say, I often check my beg on the way home (doesn’t matter much if it’s delayed) and I love walking through airports with just a small messenger bag!

@elizabethp1289

I'm in UK, and it's more common here to take trains for internal journeys than planes. However I'm enjoying the trend for lighter luggage because it's so much quicker/safer/less tiring to get on and off long-distance trains without large suitcases, especially when a large gap between the platform and train is an obstacle. I like the security advantage of being able to keep your luggage near your seat. Congratulations Josh on your collaboration with Pakt.

@BUONCO

Congratulations on working with PAKT!

@jamessuehs5877

Doing this for my trip to Cabo! Love your videos man!

@48ford8n

I started to “travelight” 20 years ago and haven’t looked back. I agree with your list of advantages. I doubt there’s a single reason why one shouldn’t travel light.

@Theralift

Got my Pakt backpack earlier this week and have already packed it a couple of times, even though I have no travel planned. It’s a great bag. Stoked to travel with a single bag once it’s more feasible to do so.

@jean233

Hi Josh. Make a “What’s in my Mac” video please. Your content is great.

@philflat4765

3 Week travel in Thailand 3.5 kg carry on luggage so easy getting on minivans ,don’t have to go straight to hotel sightseeing first.

@tsantos2300

Ever since Alitalia left my roller “carry on” bag behind at Brussels Airport when I was on my way to Rome, I’ve been doing one bag (30L max) travel. It has changed my life!

@martinbalagat

The only downside that i can think of with this idea is that you won't be able to pack a swiss army knife. You would need to pack the knife in a checked-in bag.

@davidjoseph4459

Other than when moving from one Asian country to another, and when traveling with camera gear, I will always choose one-bag travel over any other way. Paying airlines, losing bags, and the frustrations all enforce in my mind that I will just have headaches by traveling with too much. I can always buy something small I forgot along the way, but checklists ensure I get all that I need in my backpack. Enjoy your channel. Enjoy Chase Reeves and Pakt also. I like my Pakt One duffel.

@Whigu

I wish that I could travel light and one bag but just my camera and lenses makes it impossible =(

@jayitadebnath7055

Can you please tell us about minimalism phone

@atuljoshi1990

the problem is that on some airlines (particularly domestic ones in asia) they only allow a tiny carry on or none at all.

@sdnalyam

Except now. Can no longer use carry-on with most airlines .
