insane facts today we've got one that you're going to love especially if you're a fan of
scary movies now we've been told time and time again to get off the couch if we want to get
healthy and lose some weight but new studies have actually found that staying on the couch
and watching a horror movie can help you shed those pound that's right it's been scientifically
proven that watching horror movies can make you lose weight researchers
from the University of
Westminster found that a 90-minute horror film can make you burn up to 113 calories that's
the same amount of calories burned from a 30-minute walk or a 20-minute run according to
Dr Richard McKenzie the lead researcher and a specialist in cell metabolism and Physiology
horror movies set the pulses of participants racing this Sparks an increase in their heart
rates in his own words as the pulse quickens and the blood pumps around the body faster the
body experiences
a surge in Adrenaline it's this release of fast acting adrenaline produced during
short bursts of intense stress or fear which is known to lower the appetite increase the basil
metabolic rate and ultimately burn a higher level of calories Dr McKenzie and the researchers
went one step further and even measured the calories burn during specific horror movies
can you guess which horror movie burned the most calories let's go backwards from lowest to
highest clocking in at number nine watching
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre burned an average of 105
calories among participants that's the equivalent of 10 minutes of Zumba at number eight The Blair
Witch Project burned 108 calories the same amount burned during a 30 minute session of weight and
resistance training in number seven the spooky Paranormal Activity burned 111 calories which is
the same amount you would burn doing half an hour of yoga then at number six There's a Nightmare
on Elm Street this Supernatural slasher film burned
118 calories the equivalent of 15 minutes
of cycling the cold classic saw came in at number five burning 133 calories which which is the same
as doing 15 minutes of swimming laps in the pool at number four sci-fi thriller alien burned a
whopping 152 calories as much as 20 minutes of rigorous mountain bike riding then clocking in at
number three The Exorcist burned an average of 158 calories which is the same as skiing downhill
for 22 minutes and then at number two there's Jaws which burned
an impressive 100 161 calories
the same amount you would burn doing half an hour on the elliptical machine and finally taking the
prize spot at number one is not surprisingly the Stanley cubric classic The Shining watching The
Shining burned a whopping 184 calories which is the equivalent of a 30-minute brisk walk or
a 20-minute run crazy right according to the researchers the movie is occupying the top three
three spots all had numerous jump scare scenes you know the ones so sudden and sho
cking that you
physically jump out of your seat these moments in particular are responsible for the increase in
your heart rate and the fast adrenaline boost that burns the optimum amount of calories so
remember next time you watch a scary movie The more jump scare moments the better and resist the
urge to close your eyes remember you're doing this for your health but what if you don't like horror
movies don't sweat it there are tons of bizarre unconventional yet scientifically proven weigh
t
loss tricks that actually work and none of them involve calorie counting your food or getting on
the elliptical here's an easy one apparently by simply hanging a mirror across from where you eat
you can slash the amount of calories you consume by up to a third oh yeah that's right a study
in the Journal of the association for consumer research found that eating in front of mirrors
greatly reduces a person's food consumption this is particularly apparent when that person
is eating not so
healthy food according to researchers while eating unhealthy food in front
of a mirror we found that individuals experience a sense of discomfort we argue that people attribute
this discomfort to the food's taste which in turn makes them consume less in other words having to
look yourself in the eye while you're chowing down on those cheese fries makes you a more self-aware
and conscious eater which in turn makes you consume an average of 1/3 less calories so there
you have it another bizar
re and fairly low lift Health hack just hang a mirror opposite your
dining room table and watch the pounds Melt Away here's another easy one that requires practically
zero effort apparently the color of your plates also greatly influences how much you eat the study
published in the Journal of Education Humanities and social sciences investigated the effects
of color on eating Behavior researchers found that warm colors like red and orange and yellow
actually stimulated appetite according to
a study published in Frontiers and psychology this is
because of our body's biological response to warm colors which naturally increase our heart rate and
blood pressure this in turn stimulates our body's metabolism inre increasing the urge to eat more
while also creating feelings of excitement and desire around food on the flip side cooler colors
like blue green and violet have the opposite effect these colors were actually found to blunt
the appetite and in certain studies even acted as
an appetite suppressant according to researchers
this is likely because colors like blue and violet are quite rare in the context of Natural Foods in
fact blue and cool Hues in regular food are often a sign of spoilage mold or poison therefore
these colors serve as subconscious deterrence color psychology also says that these colors in
our everyday lives generally produce feelings of tranquility and reliability which are lovely but
they don't stimulate our appetites the way that warmer colo
rs do in another study people who were
given a white Plate at a buffet ate significantly less food than when given a red plate of exactly
the same size so what does this all mean it means that red and warm toned plates make you eat more
naturally and cool toned plates especially blue green and violet will make you eat less we'll take
it okay just one more easy weight loss hack and no it's not OIC research has shown that the smell
of vanilla much like the color blue is a natural appetite sup
pressant one study at St George's
Hospital in London found that participants who wore vanilla scented patches while eating had
significantly reduced appetites particularly for anything sweet like chocolate or desserts the
200 participants of the study who were all around 14 lb overweight at the time had the patches
stuck on the backs of their hands another group had lemon scented patches on the backs of their
hands while a control group had no Patches at all within a month the vanilla group
's appetite
particularly for sweet foods and chocolates had dramatically dwindled they also lost an average
of 4.8 lb per person this is in comparison to the lemon group who only lost around 3 lbs on average
and those without a patch barely lost any weight at all another study by vingan University in the
Netherlands researchers added the aroma of vanilla to the beverages of 12 healthy men they found
that the vanilla Aroma increased their feelings of fullness and reduced the amount of food t
hey
ate at their next meal in short the smell of vanilla can help you lose weight talk about a
low lift that's as easy as lighting a vanilla scented candle while you're eating dinner or even
putting a drop of vanilla bean essential oil on your wrist every morning it's just too easy now
of course none of these weight loss hacks are a replacement for eating a healthy Whole Foods based
diet paired with regular exercise but they're fun things to supplement your weight loss Journey
with all of
which can be done for very little effort and most importantly very little money and
they're all scientifically proven to work so why not light up that vanilla scented candle put
on a horror film like The Shining and get busy burning those calories just don't go too crazy
