well the main Science Festival at the Cross Insurance Center continued today attendees brought their winter jackets and thinking caps to the convent to The Invention Convention Grace Bradley takes us there yeah I feel very proud of everyone and myself for working really hard on this as part of the main Science Festival kids from all around the state displayed their Concepts theories and findings at the main Invention Convention so the students that were here earlier already did their school comp
etition and then winners from each School came here to compete and we'll be sending 10 students on to Nationals at the Henry Ford Museum in June so this is my event this tub buddy and it is like the Roomba it will be able to clean your bathtub so you don't have to so basically I'm using ethylene gas to speed up the ripening process of avocados my invention is called Flex vision and it is supposed to give you pereral Vision so I do not have any pereral vision and it could be either from me having
a disorder or having tumor in my brain I wanted to show people that just because I do have something like this does not mean that it's going to stop me in doing what I love I love doing sports there's a lot of like different ideas and creativity going around and it's like pretty inspiring to see what some students have created yeah it shows a lot of like how other kids are thinking and how their lives are the next room over featured various exploration stations fun activities to explore Tech en
gineering astronomy and Natural Sciences including University of Maine's Wildlife fisheries and conservation biology Department we're trying to just spread information and educate and bring awareness to kids about the animals that live in their backyard and how we could best conserve them so the goal of the festival is to show people that there is really amazing science happening right here in our backyards because Mayers are very humble and we don't brag about ourselves enough so for the adults
we just want to spike their interest and get them involved and then for children it's really good opportunity to show that you can see yourself doing this job here in Maine I think learning how to think outside of the box is what science is and it's really easy to think that it's all logical and that it's all these predefined ways of thinking but how we make scientific discoveries is being creative it is thinking out of the box so at the main Discovery Museum we are incredible Believers in the
power of play and we know know from our two decades of experience in informal Science Education that students learn best when they're doing things get them messy get them problem solving get them involved it can show kids that they can really do anything that they put their minds to and that they can just be creative and when they do stuff like this they can really show how creative they can be kids are like the future so like if you do that then it kind of shows how it'll be in the future if yo
